A Message From Your Activity Director
Rabbits have long been considered good luck inmany cultures. Some believe that simply speaking thewords “rabbit, rabbit” upon waking on the first day ofthe month will breed good fortune for the days tocome. Historians say it’s a tradition that can be tracedback to 1900s England, and President Franklin D.Roosevelt is said to have started each month withthe phrase.
The cold is on its way out and spring is upon us withflowers blooming and birds chirping outside. With thewarm weather here, we have an enjoyable AdventurousOuting planned ahead. On April 29th, we will climbaboard the Galveston Water Adventure boat and theCaptain will give us an hour ride on the Harbor andlearn about the dolphins and other sea life.

Be an Advocate for YourLoved One!
Ask Kelli, HCCAdmissionsDirector
If your lovedone ends up inthe hospital, hereare helpful tips toensure the bestcare. First, yourfamily member islikely not feelingwell which makesit important thatyou are there to
communicate information ontheir health condition andneeds. This includes ongoingmedical issues, new conditionsand documentation ofprescriptions they are taking. Two, hospitals are sometimesreluctant to “admit” a patient
and can keep the resident fordays under “observation.” Toqualify for therapy under aMedicare stay, a senior must be“admitted” to the hospital for 3days. You may have to insist thatyour doctor admit your lovedone—even if they are reluctantto do so. Otherwise, your familymember may be forced to returnhome to their apartment with agreater fall risk. With therapyfrom our health care team, theycan maximize their potentialand return home safely. Third, ifthey don’t need a rehab stay atTreemont, ask for doctor’s ordersfor home health, such as SeniorAllegiance. Call Kelli if you havemore questions at 713-816-2033or 713-783-4100.
