1964: THE FIGHT FOR A RIGHT
By the mid twentieth century, Mississippi’s African Americans had suffered from nearly 75 years of slavery by another name - Jim Crow discrimination. In 1964 in Mississippi, people died in an effort to force the state to allow African Americans to exercise their constitutional right to vote. Although, the 50th anniversary of Freedom Summer has passed, the struggle for voting rights is still pertinent. According to the NAACP, states have recently passed the most laws limiting voter participation since Jim Crow. Moreover, these laws also disenfranchise other people of color, the elderly, poor, and disabled. With the 2015 anniversary of the Voting Rights Act as well as the upcoming presidential primaries and general election, voting rights will remain at the forefront of a national debate. With historical footage and interviews with Freedom Summer architects and volunteers, as well as present day activists, 1964: The Fight for a Right uses Mississippi to explain American voting issues in the last 150 yearsFor instance, why are red states red?
Airs, Tuesday, August 4th at 8PM

THINGS GREEN LIVE! HOW TO USE WATER IN A DROUGHT
This Award winning television show is slated to make history with an unprecedented one-hour program encouraging how to use water during California's historic drought. Things Green LIVE! How to Use Water in a Drought will be broadcast live in front of a studio audience from the studios of KLCS. Viewers will be allowed to call Nick during the live show to ask questions. Simply call 1-800-9NewYard (963-9927). Although the Friday night event is free to attend, seating is limited and admission is only by reservation. Selected audience members will be used as living props within the program to help Nick with demonstrations. Call Pam at 562-945-6469 to reserve a seat.
Designed with the homeowner, apartment dweller and those that live in condo's, along with true and tried ideas Nick Federoff will introduce new concepts in water use as it pertains indoor and outdoor consumption. For instance, "Polymers are crystals that, when hydrated, hold 10 times more water. There's nothing new about that and they are still good in water management. However, polymers that have organic fertilizer embedded in the polymer is a scientific breakthrough which helps plants stay green when stressed from lower water use" says Federoff.Sabrina Thomas, KLCS General Manager, exclaims "we are so glad to be the conduit for this special television show. The drought is a serious concern and Nick is the person to educate viewers in a way that will motivate them to be more conscientious on proper water use."
