Job Description Job Title: Payroll Clerk Hours: 15 hours per week Location: Chaucer College, Canterbury Line Manager: Finance Manager Main purpose of job: Duties of this role will include covering all aspects of payroll. You will be processing payroll for approx 100 employees and these are currently a mix of monthly and 4- weekly payrolls. You will deal with all aspects of the payroll and assist with the payroll month end and year end. You will also deal with queries internally in connection to the payroll. Payroll administration Dealing with payroll for all employees including sessional summer staff Ensure managers are submitting the correct payroll documentation Generate payroll reports and analysing the data Processing 4 weekly and 2 monthly payrolls Ensure that all payrolls are updated both in terms of external legislation, internal adjustments and checking all entries into SAGE are accurate Process all statutory payments, SSP, SMP and paternity leave Produce and distribute payslips Preparing BACS payments Processing payroll for all starters, leavers, producing P45's, Process payroll for Bike 2 Work salary sacrifice and produce P11Ds Arrange payments to HMRC within the agreed timescales to ensure no penalties are incurred Deal with enquiries/notices from HMRC Manage the year end routine and ensure Paye/NI deductions for the tax year are correct and issue P60’s and submit annual returns to HMRC electronically Workplace Pension administration Administer the Workplace Pension Scheme – NEST

Workplace Pension administration

Administer the Workplace Pension Scheme – NEST

ensure all payments are deducted correctly through the payroll. ensure all payments are made to NEST in line with pre-set deadlines Inform new staff about their options for enrolment into the scheme Process starters and leavers with NEST

Other Duties: To carry out other job related tasks as necessary

Person Specification:

Essential DesirableKnowledge & Experience

Experience operating Sage 50 Payroll and experience of Sage Accounts

HR experience – starters/leaversStatutory payments

Knowledge of Microsoft Office (including email, Word, Excel)

Skills, abilities & attitude

Organised, with the ability to prioritise workload with competing priorities

Able to work co-operatively and to be a positive team member

Accuracy and attention to detail

Able to use initiative to problem solve and to work with minimal supervision

Confidentiality and a professional approach

Qualifications GCSE Maths and English Financial/Payroll qualification
