PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE:

Testing

We have started one of the most important times of our school year, testing season. We kicked off on March 30th with our MCA 5th grade science test. We will be holding the 3-6th grade Reading test on April 13-17th and 3rd-6th grade Math test on April 27-30th. The tests we have given up to this point (NWEA, OLPA, Aims Web) have been preparing the students for this testing window. The state uses this information to determine if a school meets AYP or Adequate Yearly Progress. We use the information from all of these tests to help determine if students are learning the standards. To get the best possible picture of our students, we need students to be well rested and ready to take the test. Please encourage your children to give their best effort and take their time on the tests.

What’s Happening?

Have some of you parents been wondering why your child needed to bring to school boxes of pasta, paper plates, or paper towel rolls? Well the 5th and 6th grade science students have been very busy creating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) projects in science class. One of the challenges was to construct a tower made out of pasta and marshmallows. The tower had to be at least thirty inches tall and hold an egg for at least 30 seconds. Another STEM project was to construct a Marble Run. This project was made out of paper plates, paper towel roles, toilet paper rolls, and masking tape. The marble had to be released and stay on the run which was at least 12 inches tall and keep moving until the end. The students also had to complete that task for 3 consecutive times. After finishing this project, the science students set up their marble run in the media center to show off their creativity. The rest of the school came out to see and try out their creations.

Talent Show 2015

On Friday March 27th, Tracy Elementary School showcased their 2nd annual “Talent Show”. There were a total of 11 acts that included 14 students. The acts included: 2 dancing, 4 piano, violin, tap dancing, 2 singing, and a card trick. It was a great day to show off the wide range of talents from the Tracy Elementary Students. All of the acts were fantastic and the students really enjoyed the performances. Thank you to the Student Council Members and their advisors Mrs. Soupir and Mr. Woitalewicz for putting on the great show.

Policy ReviewAssignment to Teachers and Classes

The building principal with the assistance of teachers will determine all homeroom student placements for the start of each school year. Parents can make specific teacher requests by completing the appropriate teacher-request form located in the school office. This form is required for “consideration” of any parent request for a specific homeroom teacher and must be submitted prior to May 1st of the previous school year. All requests will remain confidential between the parent and principal and the building principal reserves the right to determine all final homeroom student placements. (Deadline is May 1st)

There will be some changes for next year. As of right now: we will have two sections of 2nd grade, Mrs. Jensen will teach 4th grade. Mr. Maranell will teach third grade to make 3 sections. Mrs. Larson will be with Mrs. Jensen in 4th grade. Mrs. Buysse will be teaching 5th grade math. Other assignments will stay the same for now. We will be trying to get all room placements before the end of the school year. After May 1st, there will be no more changes.
