Chairman’s Message

“I’ve always respected those who try to change the world for the better rather than just complain

about it.”

It is, indeed, a matter of great satisfaction to me that my altruistic reverie, “Sughra Shafi Medical

Complex, Narowal” has continued to provide treatment services of most of the diseases with high

standards and with the help of the latest equipment, modern medical, surgical techniques and above

all, the dedication and expertise of the staff to poor and underserved people of Narowal who cannot

afford to pay for these facilities.

Over the years, “SAHARA For Life Trust” has been fortunate in receiving generous donations from a

large number of people. This is most reassuring, because it indicates the trust of donors in the quality

of service and care provided by the Hospital. Nonetheless, it is in the area of operational expenses

that the SSMC faces some problems because of a shortage of resources. Since treatment is provided

virtually free of charge or in very subsidized rates, it means that any addition to the number of

wards/beds and patients, perforce, entails an increase in the requirement of funds for running the

Hospital satisfactorily.

It is my fervent hope that people, particularly the more affluent, will come forward and share the

burden of the SSMC, enabling it to continue the provision of humanitarian services to society. I,

therefore, appeal to the donors to kindly contribute towards the setting up and strengthening of the

Endowment Fund of SSMC. I remain indebted and assured of your trust and unflinching support with

which Sahara will continue to serve the people of unreached areas of Pakistan, giving a ray of light to

I express my very sincere appreciation to all those who love mankind and express this love by taking care

of suffering humanity. “SAHARA For Life Trust” takes the pride in accepting the credit of successfully

establishing & operating “Sughra Shafi Medical Complex, Narowal (SSMC)” a 250 bed General Hospital

and so far more than 2,000,000 patients have been treated free of cost. The cost of providing

medical care in accordance with International standards is continuously on the rise and the annual

budget is 260 million per year. A number of new equipments and resources are required for the better

dispensation of health services at hospital.

Another Project of “SAHARA For Life Trust” that is “SAHARA Medical College” which is under construction

that will produce quality doctors and will facilitate the provision of quality health services in Pakistan.

Revenue generated from the medical college will be utilized for the treatment of poor, marginalized and

underserved patients of Narowal District. We are earnestly and continuously striving our best to scale

newer heights in the pursuit of excellence, with an earnest and dedicated mind to uphold the noble

profession and to flourish, year after year. We are committed to make available to the public the benefits

of the most modern and technological developments in the field of medical sciences.

The support of our valued donors including individuals, families, communities, organizations and well

wishers of Pakistan will play a crucial role in taking the Fund to its new height in the years ahead. I am

A Brief about – “SAHARA for Life Trust”

“SAHARA for Life Trust” is a tax exempted charitable organization Registration No. (DDSW, WD&DM-

LD (REGD) /98-1135 of 1998) enjoying consultative status with United Nations (U.N) (under the

charter of DESA) as well as certified by Pakistan Center for Philanthropy (PCP) and accredited by

charity commissions of U.K, USA as well as in Canada. SFLT envisions to reach the unreached and

serve the undeserved through projects in health, education and social sectors in remote areas of

Pakistan along with attending to any national or international catastrophes like war, earthquake &

flood worldwide.

“SAHARA For Life Trust” as a National level organization working in all the provinces of the country

and its first project is “Sughra Shafi Medical Complex”, a 250 bedded PMDC certified General

Hospital. SSMC is providing state of art healthcare facilities to more than 4 million population of

catchment area. The hospital is affiliated with PMDC and University of Health Sciences Punjab (UHS).

All medical and surgical services including emergencies are offered 24/7, free of cost or in subsidized

charges to poor & marginalized people of Narowal and so far more than 2 million patients have been

treated.

SFLT has more than 575 permanent employees in different program & projects and has well

established different departments i.e. marketing, Internal Audit, Monitoring & Evaluation, Finance,

Admin/HR, Material Management Department (MMD), MIS and Marketing at Head Office. Senior

Management established Youth Parliament of Pakistan which has more than 173,000 trained

Volunteers from all over the country. The founder and Chairman of the Trust Mr. Abrar Ul Haq (S.E,

T.I) is a symbol of human service, internationally known social worker, a music ICON and “OIC’s

Humanitarian Ambassador”.

Sughra Shafi Medical Complex

SFLT’s first mega project is “Sughra Shafi Medical Complex, Narowal (SSMC)” a 250 bedded General

Hospital located remotest areas of Punjab i.e. Narowal. This hospital caters monthly about 10,000

OPD patients. More than 2 Million patients treated free of cost or in subsidized rates till date. The

hospital is affiliated with PMDC and University of Health Sciences Punjab (UHS) and all medical and

surgical services including emergencies are provided round on 24/7 basis.

24 Hour Ambulance Services

SFLT conducted a research study on occurrence of road accidents on crossroads of Lahore, Narowal,

Sialkot, Zafarwal and Shakargarh. On the basis of the research study, SFLT established 4 centers with

provision of Ambulance services, providing first aid and transportation to nearby hospital either in

Narowal or in Lahore to all road traffic accidental and other emergency cases.

Sahara Diagnostic & Research Center

“SAHARA diagnostic Services”, a project of “SAHARA For Life Trust” had already been launched in

October, 2009 with the aim to generate revenue to support the healthcare project of “Sughra Shafi

Medical Complex-Narowal” for the rural population of the country through the provision of quality

diagnostic facilities at the compatible market rates. SAHARA Diagnostic Laboratory is state of the art,

highly automated equipment, fully computerized and professionally run facility. Pathology services

available include Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Histopathology, Molecular Pathology

and Blood Bank. The diagnostic center engages in Quality Assurance System including a Quality

Control Program, Quality Control Protocols, Equipment and test kit validation, peer review and the

laboratory information system, which are integral parts of the laboratory function. SAHARA

Laboratory provides physician with sophisticated diagnostic testing results, enabling individualized

patient care. Currently, more than 50 collection centers have been established in various cities of

Pakistan.

SAHARA Medical College

SAHARA Medical College is ongoing project with the aim to cater the health care needs of remote

underprivileged areas by educating health care professionals to the highest international standards

and stimulating innovation through research and discover, disseminate, and apply knowledge to

improve health and reduce the burden of illness on society. Sahara Medical College will entertain

class of 100 medical students, with a planned expansion to 150 students. This college will serve as a

subsidiary of the SSMC and subsidize the running cost of hospital. Sahara medical college will be

functional in 2014.

Vocational Training Institute:

In order to fight poverty SFLT established vocational training institute at Pasroor, which imparts skills

in stitching of football/embroidery, cultivation and farming. A number of trained people in this

training institute are well settled and running their business in an effective way.

SAHARA Basti ADP Project Association for Development of Pakistan ,

“SAHARA For Life Trust” extended its relief activities into the rehabilitation phase with the

collaboration of ADP. SFLT constructed 12 houses in a remote destructed village of Diera Din Panah

Kot Addu of DG khan Division for the flood effectees. It was a three month project which started on

15th November 2011 and completed at 15th May 2012.

Pasroor Hospital

The PASROR hospital after its inauguration in June 2000 has now got fully consolidated and in view of

quality of its services, almost all types of poor & marginalized patients of Narowal district are being

treated in the hospital through qualified trained staff.
