i. ‘In the long run it is the common man who can best give protection to the birds and animals living around him.’ Discuss and illustrate the importance of birds and animals in maintaining the ecological balance in nature with reference to the chapter ‘Bird life in the City’ (Reading Ventures).

ii. The chapter ‘Stephen Hawking… Never-say-die-Spirit’ (Reading Ventures) portrays Stephen as a perfect example of determination and perseverance despite the tremendous odds set in his path. Write about 2 other famous personalities who achieved success inspite of their physical disability.

iii. The poem, ‘If’ (Reading Ventures) tells us the qualities that we must develop to become an exemplary person. Write five qualities that you think are important for being successful.

2. Read the lesson ‘If I Were You’. Based on it, write a newspaper report describing how an actor-playwright captured a criminal with his presence of mind. (10)
