The theme for Scottish Interfaith Week in 2013 is ‘Journeys of Faith’. This programme provides information on events taking place across Scotland to mark Scottish Interfaith Week. The programme is divided into Scottish cities or regions and is in alphabetical order.

INTERFAITH SCOTLANDSunday 23 rd November

A Celebration of Scottish Interfaith Week

Time: 2pm – 4.30pmVenue: Palace Theatre and Grand Hall Complex, Pillared Hall, Kilmarnock

Interfaith Scotland’s celebratory launch of Scottish Interfaith Week will take place at the Grand Hall in Kilmarnock. The theme is ‘Journeys of Faith’ and there will be a variety of speakers and musical items from different faith traditions. A vegetarian buffet will be served at 2pm. The event is being held in partnership with East Ayrshire Council and Ayrshire Interfaith Forum. An interfaith art competition has been held on the theme of ‘journeys of faith’ for young people in Ayrshire and prizes will be given at the event. The event is invitation only.

Interfaith Service

Time: 5.15pm – 6.15pmVenue: University of Aberdeen, University Chapel

The University of Aberdeen will be hosting an interfaith service on the theme of ‘Light’. The main speaker will be Mona Siddiqui, Professor of Islamic and Interreligious Studies at the University of Edinburgh. The service will include contributions from the different student faith societies. Refreshments will be served after the service.

A talk by Professor Wilson Poon who is a Professor of Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Edinburgh. The talk is being given in two venues at the times given above. The talks will be followed by discussion and all are welcome to attend.

Inter Faith Forum: Faiths and Peace

Time: 10.30am – 2.30pmVenue: 66A Hamilton Place, Rosemount  Place, AB15 5BA (Brahma Kumaris Centre)

Come and hear members of different faiths talk about what their faith means to them in relation to peace. After we have heard from members of different faiths, there will be a plenary discussion with everyone present together. Faiths represented will include the Baha’i, the Brahma Kumaris, the Sikhs and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. At lunch time, soup and light lunch will be served. All welcome. Free of charge. Professor Charles Burnett of the Warburg Institute, University of London, is one of the world's leading scholars working on the history of science in the Islamic World. In this special lecture, delivered in the stunning surroundings of the Royal College of Surgeons' King Khalid Building, Prof Burnett will explore what happens when a scientific or philosophical work is translated from one religious culture to another, specifically from pagan Greek to Islamic Arabic and from Islamic Arabic to Christian Latin. Faith and Identity: Documentary Premiere

Time: 7.30pmVenue: Scottish Storytelling Centre

Edinburgh Interfaith Association (EIFA) premieres the short documentary ‘Faith and Identity’. Produced in response to a recent government report on the rise of hate crime towards minority religious communities, the film presents a look into the daily lives of three young women from different faith traditions; Islam, Judaism and Sikhism. This resource and accompanying educational pack not only shows their beliefs, values and practices, but highlights that these are young woman with shared hopes and fears that we can all identify with. The F Word: Images of Forgiveness.

Venue: Shawlands Academy

In partnership with Glasgow City Council and Shawlands Academy, Interfaith Glasgow is bringing the ‘F Word’ exhibition to Glasgow, to be shown at Shawlands Academy for a week. This exhibition is a thought-provoking collection of arresting images and personal narratives exploring forgiveness in the face of atrocity. Associated activities will include talks from two speakers: Marian Partington and Kemal Pervanic. Following a series of preparatory dialogues on faith and forgiveness at Shawlands Academy, there will be four events during Interfaith Week itself, focusing on the exhibition and its theme: three for school-age young people and one evening dialogue event for the wider community on Tuesday 25th November.

One of a series focusing on the Scriptures of world faith traditions. Each session provides an opportunity to learn about the Scriptures of the faith in question, to hear what meaning they have for believers, to ponder a text in a silent and prayerful atmosphere, and to reflect on connections. ‘Interfaith Café’

Time: 2pm – 4pmVenue: University of Strathclyde Chaplaincy Centre, Level 2, Graham Hills Building The Chaplaincy Team at the University of Strathclyde will be hosting an Interfaith Café event during Interfaith Week. The Interfaith Café is an opportunity for people, whether from a faith tradition or not, to learn more from people of different faiths. At the end of the conversations we’ll get to enjoy some food from various faith traditions. Glasgow University Interfaith Event

This event is being held by Glasgow University Theology and Religious Studies Society for people of different faiths and none to find out about each other, and about different faiths.  Participants will include AnglicanSoc, JewishSoc, MuslimSoc, HinduSoc and Krishna Conciousness Soc.  It will be a relaxed event with some refreshments.  

Interfaith Badminton Match

Venue: Maccabi Youth and Sports Centre

Maccabi are hosting an Interfaith Badminton event for Jewish young people at the project and young people from Orchardhill Church. 30 young people will be taking part.

This will be followed by an open conversation and discussion about YOUR experiences of being a minority - or a majority - in Scotland. The event is open to all and includes a kosher buffet.
