GLEN ELDER SENIOR CENTER TO HOST FIRST COMPUTER/SMARTPHONE WORKSHOP

The Glen Elder Senior Center will be hosting a Computer/Smartphone Workshop for the first time ever. The Workshop will take place the week of March 27 – 31 from 9:30 until 11:00 each day. Serving as moderators will be students from the North Central Kansas Technical College, under the tutelage of Mr. Robert McCreight, Advanced Computer Technology Instructor at NCK-Tech. The Glen Elder Senior Center is now able to host such events due to being awarded a grant from the Dane G. Hansen Foundation of Logan, Kansas. The grant covered the Wifi installation by Cunningham Telephone and Cable of Glen Elder, as well as additional equipment in the form of computers provided by Mr. Duff Watson of Holy Family Elementary School of Hays. A special “Thank You” goes to Mr. Tyler Brummer of Cunningham Telephone and Cable for installing the equipment. The NCK-Tech students will be available to answer your questions concerning the use of your electronic equipment. You are invited to bring your personal laptops, iPads, and Smartphones, or use the equipment available at the Center. While there will be no formal presentation each day, the students will just move around the room, answering questions from the individual workshop participants. Whether you are a total beginner in using electronic devices, or a more advanced user, this workshop will meet your needs. Participants can come and go throughout the morning, or stay for the entire time. Likewise, participants can choose to be there for just one day, all five days, or any number of days in between. You can get your questions answered one day, go home that night to practice what you learned, then come back another day for follow-up questions, or move on to another topic. YOU choose the questions which meet YOUR needs. There is NO COST for this valuable information and experience, and the event is open to area residents of all ages. The event is sponsored by the Glen Elder Senior Center, along with the Mitchell County Council on Aging. Similar events have been held at the Beloit Senior Center in the past, but this is the first time such an event has been held in the Glen Elder Senior Center. The Beloit Center will also be hosting this workshop, featuring students from Beloit High School, the week before Glen Elder. The Beloit event will take place on Wednesday and Friday, March 22nd and 24th, from 9:00 until 10:30 each day. You are invited to share in as many days as you desire at the two locations. Take advantage of this great opportunity to expand your knowledge with your electronic devices. Call Jay Rowh at (785)-738-0241 for more information. Advance reservations are not required. See you there!!
