Vijetha

Vijetha (also spelled as Vijeta) (Telugu: త; English:Victor) is a Tollywood film that starred Chiranjeevi,Bhanupriya, and J.V. Somayajulu in the main roles. Thefilm was directed by A. Kodandarami Reddy and pro-duced by Allu Aravind. This film released on October 23,1985.Chiranjeevi Won 2nd Filmfare Best Actor Award(Telugu)The movie is a remake of Hindi movie Saaheb starringAnil Kapoor and Amrita Singh.

1 Plot

Madhusudhana Rao aka Chinnababu (Chiranjeevi) is awannabe football player, who would like to representhis country. Chinnababu is also the youngest son ofNarasimham (J.V. Somayajulu). Chinnababu is in lovewith his childhood friend and neighbour Priyadarshani(Bhanupriya). Despite his father’s efforts to stop him,Chinnababu’s love towards football grows and his coachencourages him to participate in leagues. Priyadarshanisupports him in all his endeavours. Chinnababu’s youngersister’s marriage gets fixed and unable to arrange enoughmoney for the marriage. Narasimham asks his sons tocontribute. But, his sons, who are controlled by theirwives deny any help. Frustrated Narasimham tries to sellhis house. But, Chinnababu stops him in the last mo-ment and sends him money, saying that his elder sistersent it. His sister’s marriage is done uninterrupted, with-out Chinnababu’s presence. After marriage his elder sis-ter arrives and denys that she sent any money. Surprisedand shocked chiru’s family later learns that Chinnababudonated one of his kidney to save a rich man’s heir andsent that money. Narasimham appreciates his son’s ef-forts, for not even bothering about his football career andsaving his house on time.

2 Production

Most of the outdoor scenes were shot in Mumbai, whereSaheeb was shot. Mukesh Udeshi helped the team a lot inthe Mumbai shooting. Rohini dubbed Bhanupriya’s voicein the film. Sreelakshmi, who played the wife of Girib-abu, also had her voice dubbed by someone else for thefilm. K. Dattu, who worked for camera in this film asan assistant, worked for films like Shankar Dada MBBSlater. Both Allu brothers, Arjun and Venkatesh (a.k.a.Bobby), acted in the film. Nutan Prasad’s son and has a couple of dialogues. AlluArjun, a two-year-old boy at that time, appears in twoscenes as Subha’s son.[1]

Lots of discussions went into zeroing in on a title forthe movie. Chinnababu was considered earlier, as bothBengali and Hindi versions had the male lead character’sname as the title. There was also an advertisement inpopular filmmagazine Jyothichitra asking for title sugges-tions, and Vijetha won the majority votes. A lucky drawof those voter names was held and the winners’ nameswere credited in the film too.[1]

4 Soundtrack

Tunes for two songs (jeevitamE oka payanamu... and 6 o'clock ki siggulu dulupu...) were used from the Hindi film.S. Janaki has sung both these songs, in both languages(under Bappi Lahri’s music direction in Hindi) Rest of thesongs in Telugu were tuned by Chakravarthy. In Telugu,two duets were inserted more than in Hindi, due to thepopularity Chiranjeevi has acquired.[1]
