VILLAGE NEWSLETTER

FEBRUARY

Dear Residents How stunning is the orchid featured on the cover page of this month’s edition of the Village Newsletter? This delightful photo was taken by your intrepid roving Editor and Office Manager, the lovely Cath Quirk, currently on leave and visiting Papua New Guinea.

Papua New Guinea must be an absolute delight in terms of photographic subjects, especially the amazing flora and fauna of this incredible country so close to our shores. Cath should be in her photographic element, snapping away! We will look forward to viewing more of Cath’s beautiful handiwork on her return home.

It has been my absolute privilege to have been asked to work at the Village Office in a casual capacity over the past year. My own dear grandmother Mary Hahn was a resident at

St Agnes’ Village for over 20 years and was one of the Village’s original residents. I have many happy memories of spending time in St Agnes’ Village with my beloved late Grandma. I have greatly enjoyed meeting many of you and speaking to you on the phone in my assisting role.

Just a reminder too that the newsletter can be accessed by visiting the St Agnes Village’s web site www.stagnesvillages.com.au There is a tab on the home page that you click to access the newsletters. Past editions in full colour will be on the website for your perusal. Newsletters are accessible to those visiting the web site as well as family and friends of village residents. It is a daunting task to attempt to fill Cath’s very big (and extremely stylish) shoes as Editor of the Newsletter in her absence, so my apologies in advance for any errors, omissions or mistakes, they will all be mine!

Julia Tierney Temporary Editor for February!

Feral Deer Survey

Residents are asked to return the Resident’s Committee Feral Deer

Survey to the Village Office or pop it into the Village Letterbox as soon as they can to enable a

further approach to Port Macquarie Council and State MP,

Mrs Leslie Williams.

Congratulations to Pam and Ray Hope who celebrated their 60 year Diamond Wedding Anniversary on Australia Day, 26th January.

Pam and Ray’s daughter Vicky Bryant has given us all the important information

on the happy couple! Pamela June Houlahan married Raymond Boyce Hope on 26th January, 1957 in the

Presbyterian Church Mudgee, NSW.

They moved to the coast, from Cassilis, in 1960 with their two children, Mark and Vicky and

operated successful bakeries in both Laurieton and Port Macquarie. Pam and Ray have now

enjoyed over 30 years of retirement together. They have had few overseas trips, but mostly

enjoyed touring Australia in their caravan. Both Ray and Pam were keen golfers.

Ray and Pam moved into the Village from Bonny Hills three years ago and now reside at 134

Quinlivan Drive, St Agnes Village.

We, along with their children, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren wish them "Happy

Anniversary " and hope they enjoy many more diamond years together.

GENTLE EXERCISES

Wednesday morning 10.00 am -11.00 am, John Worner Centre, Lourdes Village with Karen Roberts

First class for 2017 will be on Wednesday February 15th. These exercises help to increase strength, mobility and balance. Hand weights, resistance bands and balls and all other equipment is supplied by Karen.

Exercises can be done sitting or standing or a combination of both. Exercises are very gentle and are adjusted for individual needs. Sometimes at the first class people try too hard and the next day have what is commonly called DOMS, delayed onset muscle soreness and because of this soreness some people then decide to not come again. This is a case of 'slow and steady' and people should just do what they can and do some extra stretching during the week. St Agnes’ Village residents are most welcome to attend these exercises at Lourdes Village. It's also a good time social time where you can catch up with other residents and have a laugh and a chat.

Did you know that the Village Newsletter is now available on the Catholic Care of the Aged website? Take a fresh look online now.... www.stagnesvillages.com.au

We wish Bertha all the very best for a relaxing retirement and hope she has plenty of opportunity to hang up the apron and rest her legs!

We welcome new residents:- Jim & Fay Bryant (St Agnes Village) David & Janet Hawes (St Agnes Village)

A reminder that Coffee Shop has resumed on Mondays at 10.00am in the Tenison Woods Centre and we’d love to see you there! If you would like transport to or from Coffee Shop contact the Village Office, and transport will be arranged for you. Everyone welcome!
