Strong research and innovation milieu
Characterized by:
• world-class, needs-driven research
• Sustained collaboration between research actors within a strong geographic / thematic area
…and must have a focus in VINNOVAs field of activities
Promotions for female researchers working in industry, research institutes or academia!
Strategic collaborations for milieus in the research frontline!
Background to the VINNMER programme• New generation of professors at the universities –
large number of retirements and qualified researchers are needed to refill the positions
• Equalise underrepresentation in gender within areas with great imbalances
• Lack of qualification possibilities for post doctoral researchers
• Create qualification possibilities (in accordance to the research bill 2004/05:80)
Swedish National Agency for Higher Education 2006:2 R
• Swedish research system: 8% of male PhD became professors but only 4 % of the
female (12 years after thesis 1991)
• Scientific field (engineering): 22% male, 14% female (within 18 years after thesis 1980-
1985)
Why focus on women?
• Women are underrepresentated as senior researchers within many of the fields that VINNOVA operates in
• Women are disadvantaged in terms of unsecure carrer possibilities
• A generation shift gives good opportunities to equalise gender imbalances
