Hi Everyone,it’s a big week coming up,

so polish those bikes and get out there.

This weekend, it is The Barlick Bash, held by Centre 6 up at Barnoldswick. Hav-ing been to this rally before,

I can honestly say it is a cracking venue, Rolls Royce social club, with everything you would expect to hand, so give it a try, 3 nights camping, and entertainment for only £15 in advance, or £18 on the gate, bargain.

Then on Wednesday night, 2nd September from 7-30pm, it will be the last Centre meet for us at The Grey Goose.

From October we will be back to our regu-lar 1st Tuesday of the month meet, except we will be meeting at The Mellish Rugby Club.

Address:Mellish RFC LtdWar Memorial GroundMapperley PlainsNottinghamNottinghamshireNG3 5RXmap:http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/mellishrf

cltd/?primary=aboutus&secondary=location&third=location

It is only around a mile from the Goose, but offers us so much more.

It is a very clean, modern building, with a lovely room, full bar services, rugby club prices, very biker friendly, massive car park, the list goes on.

We will still be having the chip butties that are proving so popular, and this also gives us the opportunity to have parties, with over-night camping, and plenty of room for camp-ers etc.

We, the Committee, really feel that this is just perfect a venue for us, and are all excited with the move.

So on Weds, give the Goose a good old send off, and get ready to settle in to a fantas-tic new home, we stand on the edge of some-thing big, be an active member, join in and the future is very bright for us all.

Ride Safe People,Terry (Centre 9 Rep)

Being Shot AtHi Folks, me again, by the time you read this I will be back home from a planned trip of, The Cockney Rejects rally, a week in Torquay, and on to The Scrumpies summer party, to me this is a perfect way to spend a week, not sure that Jane would agree? But I guess the weeks holiday would be up there somewhere. We have had a couple of incidents of bad luck this month, so a get well soon to Ricky Martin, the 1st swine flu victim I have known personally, and to Jim Wallace, who, whilst driving home a couple of weeks ago, was hit head on by a car coming in the opposite direction, a bit bashed about but otherwise ok.What a month, the mayhem rally, then a Friday night trip to the Unwanted Mcc rally, then to party with Harry and Ros on Saturday, quickly followed by the wedding, Rejects and fin-ish up with the Scrumpies. In between this, the centre, Derby, Leicester, and Notting-ham meets.Phew, I need a rest.We had a very productive meet at the Arkwright, some con-cerns were aired, and I hope put to bed.The club finances are on the mend, raffle sales have been good, and we continue to forge ahead. For us to be an exciting club, with lots of entertaining things to do, all we need to do is join in, and this is what I am see-ing everywhere I go. The vagaries of the English weather continue to make organized ride outs a bit tricky. Hopefully before the sun abandons us again for the year, we can put this right. The breakfast meets are still one of the best places to get together, and on even half decent days, the opportunity to spend a few hours on a Sunday, ignore the lawn, and cruise along with children waving, happy days.I have asked Les to be our entertainments co-ordinator, and he has agreed, this takes some of the strain out of organiz-ing parties, and other events, thank you Les.We continue to pick up new members, welcome to you, Rob Lee, hope to see you out and about enjoying the club. The wedding in Doncaster, of Terry & Sue, was, quite frankly fantastic. The weather as usual did not let us down, on the Friday, it pissed it down, the wind blew, and it was very cold. Which made it all the more amazing that the sun shone all day Saturday.42 Lost Riders went to the celebration, Terry and Sue send their thanks to every one of you. We had a collection to give the married couple a token of our respect, and raised £160, well done, and thank you to all our members.Fantastic to see so many members in fancy dress, and dancing the night away. One last thing, I have recently made a new contact for tyre fitting, Damage Inc, Tim and Kizzy are a small family run business, friendly, and caring, they offer us an efficient service, very good price, includ-ing balancing and re-fitting, so please give them a try, we can build up a good working relationship with them.Damage Inc, Unit 11, 149 Attenborough Lane, Attenborough, Nottingham. PAUL’S PONDERINGS

Disappointing weather - must be heading for the wettest July? Still, it won’t dampen our spirits and it MUST mean a red hot August

(surely!). Not a huge turn out from our region for the Mid-land’s Mayhem but those of us who journeyed to these ‘foreign parts’ certainly enjoyed the event (see our website). Very heavy rain on the way there (getting to be every time) but the sun shone on us for a good part of the weekend. The Tattoo artist had good business from the Lost Riders (you know who you are!). We were very lucky with the weather for (Yorkie) Terry and Sue’s Wedding bash - got soaked on the journey both ways but Saturday stayed dry for the convoys (approx 100 bikes) and the events and that’s what mattered. Didn’t Terry look smart and Sue look great in their wedding attire? Everyone I spoke to said how much they had enjoyed the weekend and how pleased they were to see the couple look so happy. They certainly got a good turn out and I know that we all wish them every hap-piness for their future together. Loads of photos on our website. They are a brill couple. Lynn was pleased to meet (Geordie) Barry’s sister (see photo). Fairly obvious why ‘she’ got 1st place in the ‘Miss Wet T-Shirt’ competition. Very wet for our Notts. Grey Goose meeting last week, no bikes, but the select group enjoyed the usual chip butties and good company. This month’s McDonalds meeting (Sunday 26th July) saw a few of us (see photo/s) take a ride to the Barnsley Custom and Classic Bike Show. Mark led us as far as Shireoaks when one of his handle-bar riser bolts fell out! After a makeshift repair he decided that it was safer to go directly home (he made it!) rather than ride on ‘one handed!’ The show was excellent with some top quality customs of all types on display and some deserving winners. Pity Mark didn’t see them as the ride was his idea!! We are just about to set off early for the Scrump-ies Party which starts at the end of the week (31st July). Surprisingly the forecast is ‘sunshine and showers’ and we already had 3 sets this morning. Resigning myself to get wet (and then dry and then wet and then …………..). Still always worth it for the yearly Scrumpies Party as it is a great site with a very laid back atmosphere, good facilities and a ‘petting’ farm (for those of you who like that sort of thing!).

The August Notts. McDonalds meeting is on 23rd (and cur-rently doesn’t clash with anything unless you are consider-ing the Triumph Bonneville 50th anniversary celebrations at the Heritage Motor Centre in Warwickshire). Only official rally left this year is then the North Stars (Bar-noldswick) Rally over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Where did the summer go? Don’t forget that we are still looking for someone to take up the Notts. Rep role before I ‘move on’ at the end of the Summer. Next Notts. Grey Goose meeting is on 18th Au-gust, see you there, Paul (Notts. Rep)

Lincs. NewsAugust 2009:

This month we had Boston Bike Night on the first Thursday of the month the day after the main Centre

meet. We had a stand in the car park in next to the Band. It was lucky Steve and Cathy turned up though as if not we would have had no bikes on the stand due to mine being off road at the time and EJ bringing the car with the stand in so a big thank you to them. We also had a new member, Derek, turn up on his 750 Virago which was a real pleasure. Especially to see a member come from Notting-ham.

The following week was the Lincolnshire meet and I chose to have this at Barton Bike Night in-stead of the usual place at Roosters. This was a great night out due to the many bikes which lined the streets as we were walking through the town. We saw John and Rosie on our wanders too!

The ride to the American War Cemetary on the 4th July was spectacular and worth visiting if you are ever near Cambridge on a nice day. The ride into the cemetary itself was again good with a good number of motorbikes turning up and the spectacle on the roads was amazing especially with the police motorcyclists nipping past to stop traffic ahead! The ride to the cemetary will be taking place again next year and definitely worth participating in if you get the chance with all money being raised going to a worthwhile cause too.

Terry and Sue’s wedding was a brilliant weekend and great to see such a lovely couple tie the knot. The entertainment was fabulous and as usual the Yorkies were definitely brilliant hosts!

The Lincolnshire meeting will be held at Roost-ers again this month on the 2nd Wednesday as normal. Most of us Lincolnshire members are away for this one but EJ has volunteered to at-tend on my behalf.

See you all soon.

JOKE OF THE MONTH

From Jim

Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting. Well, for example, the other day, my wife and I went into town and went into a shop. We were only in there for about 5 minutes. When we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket.

We went up to him and I said, ‘Come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?’ He ignored us and continued writing the ticket.. I called him a Dumb ass. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn tires. So Mary called him a shit head. He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote. Just then our bus arrived and we got on it and went home. We try to have a little fun each day now that we’re retired. It’s important at our age.

John and Jayne Bell present theMaestro to Mongolia adventure

Our mission is to spread Austin Maestros to all corners of the world while raising money for charity and having a ‘bit of an adventure’. Following on from the Team Beeblebrox ‘Maestro to Gambia’ our new team L’Austin Transit will travel to Ulanbaataar Mongolia. Departing on 18th July 2009 from Goodwood we will drive our mighty 1275cc Maestro (depending on where the warzones are) through Czech Republic, Turkey, Iran (maybe) several places end-ing in “stan” and the Ghobi desert. We also hope to break the world altitude record for a Maestro while travelling along the Pamir Highway when we reach 16,000 feet.Hopefully six weeks and 10,000 miles later we will arrive in Ulan-baataar where the Maestro, spares and equipment will be given to local charities and we will try and find the train to Retford (aka the Trans-Siberian Express).

We are in the process of finalizing the route while we await the remainder of our visas. Current problems in Iran are giving cause for concern, so an alternative route is being considered. We are currently investigating all the possible dangers, and as if navigating the rocky terrain of the Gobi desert was not enough, the main worries in the fifth largest desert are wolves and the bubonic plague which is carried by the Marmot.

Our aim is to raise £1000 for Mercy Corps Mongolia from gener-ous people like yourselves.

This is my last month as Newsletter Editor, as Jim Salmon will be taking over next month.

Some of you will be wondering what happened to last month’s newsletter.

I was lying in bed with the wife (as one does), on the morning of Saturday August 8th, when it suddenly occurred to me to wonder whether I had actually done the August newsletter! And then it dawned on me that I had forgotten it completely!

In mitigation, I can only claim sheer pressure of work, as I run three separate full-time businesses, and I have also lately been doing three days a week voluntary work with the National Trust as a room steward and in the shop at Hardwick Hall (see photo).

As I have about 10 separate email ac-counts to do with my different businesses and separate roles, I sometimes don’t have time to read my Rumblingstar emails until a couple of days before I am due to do the following month’s newsletter, and in the case of last month, I didn’t even have time to check them then!

I think Terry was trying to leave voice-mail messages on my mobile, but my voicemail account was switched off when I went to America at the end of June (be-cause it would have cost me over a £1 per voicemail to download my messages in the States), and I haven’t worked out with Virgin how to get it switched back on yet. So basically, I had no idea last month that it was August already, and no newsletter had appeared!

This is my third year of doing the news-letter, and what happened last month has made me realise that it is time for me to step down as Editor, and let someone else have a go. I was planning to step down anyway at next year’s AGM, but I am very grateful to Jim for taking it over now.

Well done mate!

Ride Safe,

Gothic Keith

Fantastic Ride-Out on Sunday 16th AugustThere were 16 people at the Sunday morning meeting at Clay Cross. The weather was fantastic so who could re-sist a ride into Derbyshire? In fact there were 2 separate ride-outs; Keith went off to Hardwick Hall, followed by Ben and Lucy....hope you avoided all those sheep and cows through the Estate!Malc led the ride-out through Derbyshire lanes ending up at Monyash for a welcome mug of tea and breakfast or possibly lunch by that time. Thank you so much Malc and Ken for my initiation into the joys of a ride-out, 2nd man and all that – well it was my first time.....thank you to the others on the ride, I enjoyed the experience and felt quite safe. I am definitely looking forward to the next one.GI Jane (happy 535 rider)Derbyshire Rep.
