5 COMMUNITY STANDARDS (REQUIRED INFORMATION):

Statement of purpose: After reading the non-degree restrictions below, please describe on a separate sheet of paper why you wish to attend Virginia Tech as a non-degree student and list the courses you are considering.

A student who enrolls at Virginia Tech under the non-degree program must meet minimum requirements set by the university. All students must meet minimum admission requirements and be in good standing at their current or most recent school to be considered for non-degree student status. Transcripts are required. Other restrictions placed on non-degree applicants are as follows:

• A prospective non-degree applicant who has been denied admission as a regular-status applicant (freshman or transfer) will not be eligible for reconsideration for non-degree admission in the same year.

• Students who have previously been enrolled at Virginia Tech should not reapply as non-degree-seeking students. Former students who left the university in good standing may register for classes through Hokie SPA (http://www.hokiespa.vt.edu). Former students who did not leave the university in good standing may contact the academic dean’s office in the college in which their major was located.

• All non-degree students register for classes on a space-available basis only. Until the deadline for adding classes, a non-degree student may be forced to drop a class if the number of degree-seeking students exceeds the number of available spaces in a particular class.

• A non-degree student will be allowed to attempt up to a maximum of 40 semester hours as a non-degree student, not to exceed 11 hours in any one term during the academic year or 5 hours in any summer session.

• A non-degree student is required to maintain an overall QCA of at least 2.0.• Non-degree-seeking students are not eligible for financial aid or scholarships.• Do not apply for admission as a non-degree seeking student if you wish to enroll in lab science courses during the fall or spring semesters. Lab science courses are only available for degree

seeking students during these terms.• High school students will only be considered for non-degree admission if the intended course work is not offered at the local community college.
