Objectives• With an estimated total population of 501 million

(http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu), 1 January 2010), an estimated 45 million people in Europe have a LSHPD (long-standing health problem or disability). A mere 20-30% are believed to use Assistive Technology (AT), but concrete figures do not exist. In fact, most people with disabilities are not even aware of what AT exists.

• By 2020, 25% of the EU's population will be over 65. Spending on pensions, health and long-term care is expected to increase by 4-8% of the GDP in forthcoming decades, with total expenditures tripling by 2050. However, older Europeans are also important consumers with a combined wealth of over €3000 billion http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/newsroom/cf/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=3457 University of Pannonia

Objectives• This eldering population has to face more health and

mental problems due to their age.• A general goal of governments can be keeping the

elderly population in their homes (compared to taking them to hospitals, or day care centers), because this is economically more sustainable and this is a more humane solution for these people too. Unfortunately, to enable them to stay in their usual environment, more help, assistive technologies and monitoring systems are needed.

• We plane to develop SMART Helping systems for ELderly People (SMART-HELP) and dementia patients.

Planned SMART-HELP

• a.) SMART-VR-HELP: To clearly perceive the important household items' information and location, by decoding the Virtual Reality (VR) identifying mark cards set behind the items. Also for those household items required the complicate operation, VR on device's screen via 3D and animation teaching presentation to help very much the elderly to know how is the correct usage operating.

• b.) SMART-WSN-HELP: To monitor the elderly patient s’ activities using Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) falling detection, etc..

• c.) SMART RP-HELP : Developing a route plan system based on WSNs and Google Maps. It helps the (blind or deaf) clients to plan and independently carry out their route in a city.

• d.) other ideas ?????University of Pannonia

Outcomes and Impact• Outcomes:• SMART-HELP systems (in different european

languages)• Education materials (in different european

languages)• Guidelines (in different european languages)•  • Impact: Our helping system would be a

great help not only for the clients, but for the care givers too.
