Virtue of the Month:

Forgiveness

Being forgiving is giving someone

another chance after they have

done something wrong, knowing

that everyone makes mistakes. It is

making amends instead of taking

revenge. In the words of Mother

Teresa, “It is by being forgiving that

one is forgiven.”

Dear God, During these most sacred days of Easter,

I thank You for loving us so much that You sent Your Son to die and rise from the dead, so that our sins could be

forgiven. As I have received forgiveness, guide me to follow the

example of Jesus By forgiving those who hurt me.

Teach me also to take responsibility; Seek forgiveness,

And repair the harm when I have hurt someone else. Help me to walk in the Spirit of Jesus, Working for reconciliation and peace

Within my family, school and community. Amen.

Bus Buzz - April

Are you moving? Please be sure to advise your school 1-2 weeks in advance of moving. Be sure you provide a house or fire num-

ber, as well as the road name and if necessary, your new telephone number. If changes need to be made to your child’s school bus

transportation, the school will advise the Transportation Consortium.

More information regarding school bus transportation can be found at www.brucegreyschoolbus.ca.

Year of Mercy

“Then the righteous will answer him and say, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you

drink? When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? When did we see you ill

or in prison, and visit you?’ And the king will say to them in reply, ‘Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of

these least brothers of mine, you did for me.’” (Matthew 25:37-40)

The Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy are actions we can perform which extend God’s compassion and mercy to

those in need. During this Year of Mercy, we will reflect on one of the Corporal or Spiritual Works of Mercy each

month, thinking about how we can be agents of God’s mercy in our schools, our families and our communities.

April Spotlight ~ Corporal Works of Mercy ~ Shelter the Homeless

What are some of the ways our family already ‘shelters the homeless’? Do we talk

about some of the causes of homelessness? Do we take the time to be grateful for what

we have? Do we regularly donate items we no longer need or use so they can be used

in someone else’s home? Do we help our neighbours to care for their homes? Do we

take care of our neighbourhood by cleaning up garbage, treating our environment with

respect or by planting trees?

During this Year of Mercy, as a family, what are some of the ways we can shelter the

homeless? Can we talk about seeing each person, regardless of their situation, as a

child of God, worthy of dignity and respect? Can we donate toys or books we no longer

use or need to a homeless shelter? Can we learn more about the global refugee situa-

tion and some of the challenges that children and families face as they flee war, illness

and hunger in search of peace and safety?

During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, how can I be an agent of God’s mercy

by sheltering the homeless?

PARENTING TIP OF THE MONTH Tip #84 – Lent is a time for us to focus on important prac-tices of our faith: prayer, fasting and almsgiving. During Lent help your children see that prayer is both formal and informal and that God wants to hear from us in many ways; teach them that we can fast from a favourite food or drink, but also from a bad habit or mean spirited action; remind them that almsgiving provides support for those in need and can take the form of money, goods, or time and talent. Lent is about focusing in on how we can be better people and so it is a great teaching tool to help your chil-dren grow. (From: Teresa Hartnett, Family Ministry Office, 905-528-7988 ext. 2250)

MARRIAGE TIP OF THE MONTH Tip #64 – In marriage we can sometimes focus on the hab-its of our spouse that annoy us, rather than looking inward at ourselves and asking how we might be a better partner to the one we love. Ask yourself what one thing you can do today to be a better spouse and then do it; choose a new item to focus on each week. As we change how we connect with our spouse, their response to us will also change and suddenly, life is better. Adopt a new way of acting toward your spouse and watch your marriage thrive! (From: Teresa Hartnett, Family Ministry Office, 905-528-7988 ext. 2250)
