Nazarene Mission Statement:

There once was a rich man, … wasting his days in conspicuous consumption. A poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, had been dumped on his door-
step…Then this poor man died, and was taken up by the angels to the lap of
Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. “Father Abraham, mercy! Have mercy! Send Lazarus to dip his
finger in water to cool my tongue. I'm in agony in this fire.” But Abraham said,
“Child…there is a huge chasm set between us…
The rich man said, “Then let me ask you, Father: Send him to the house of my father where I have five brothers
so he can warn them...” Abraham answered, “They have Moses and the Prophets... Let them listen to them.” “I know, Father Abraham, but they're not
listening.” Abraham replied, “If they won't listen to Moses and the Prophets,
they're not going to be convinced by someone who rises from the dead.”

• Today there is mercy and grace for the penitent. Jesus taught that
there is a point of no return for the finally impenitent who sin against
God, others, and themselves.
• In hell, the rich man became evangelistic. He wanted to
commission Lazarus to go preach to his brothers.

• We are as good as it gets! If we do not win our family and friends,
even angels or resurrected witnesses will also fail.
• We do not need an URGENT commissioning by a person in hell.
Jesus has already sent us!

Multiplying disciples Then the word of God spread, and
the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests
were obedient to the faith. (Acts 6:7 NKJV)

Multiplying churches Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had
peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit,
they were multiplied. (Acts 9:31 NKJV)

A man of noble birth went to a distant country to have himself
appointed king and then to return. So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. “Put this money to
work, until I come back.” But his subjects hated him and sent a
delegation after him to say, “We don't want this man to be our king.”
He was made king, however, and returned home.
Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in
order to find out what they had gained with it. The first one came
and said, “Sir, your mina has earned ten more.” “Well done, my good
servant!” his master replied. “Because you have been trust
worthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.” The second
came and said,
“Sir, your mina has earned five more.” His master answered, “You
take charge of five cities.” Then another servant came and said, “Sir, here is your mina; I have kept
it laid away in a piece of cloth. I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man…” His master replied, “I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! …
Why then didn‘t you put my money on deposit, so … I could have collected it with interest?”
Then he said to those standing by, “Take his mina away from him and
give it to the one who has ten minas.” “Sir, he already has ten!”
He replied, “I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what he has will be
taken away.” (Luke 19:12-26)
• We will all give an accounting. • Faithfulness is not enough.
• Fulfilling a role is not enough. • Fruit – not just Faithfulness
• Results – not just Role • What if we are FAITHFUL to
ineffective methods?

• Repentance for “status quo.”
• When we move BEYOND the WALLS of our COMFORT ZONE,
we feel fear.
• Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” (Joshua 8:1, 10:8, 11:6)

• each one reach one • disciples making disciples • pastors training pastors

Any group that meets regularly for spiritual nurture, worship,
or instruction with an identified leader and aligned
with the message and mission of the Church of the Nazarene may be recognized as a church.
