AWARDS…..
PROJECTS - DOMESTIC…..
The Company received “Star Performer – Large Enterprise (Ferro
Alloys)” award in the form of a Shield and a Certificate for Export
Excellence for the year 2016-17, from EEPCINDIA, Chennai. The
Shield and Certificate were received by Mr. Vivek Seth, Head
(Marketing & Commercial) and Mr. K. Divakar, Assistant General
Manager (Sales) of Corporate Office, from His Excellency Shri.
Banwarilal Purohit, Hon’ble Governor of Tamilnadu, at the 41st
Southern Region Export Awards presentation ceremony, held in
Chennai on 28th December. The Company received this award
for the 14th time.
The Management congratulates the staff of the Paloncha Works
and the Corporate Marketing team for their achievement.

RELINING OF FURNACE – 3, FAP(T)
The relining (replacement of refractory
brickwork) of Furnace - 3 of FAP(T), was
carried out during October to November,
2018, for the second time. The previous
relining work was done in the year 1997. The
furnace – 3 was recommissioned on 18th
November after relining. With this there is
improvement in thermal efficiency resulting in
increased furnace load and throughput.

FIXTURE FOR IN SITU GRINDING, FAP(O)
Mr. Jamaluddin Ahmed, Assistant Foreman
(Mechanical) of FAP (O) developed a holding
fixture for in situ grinding of briquetting die. This
has helped in reduction of grinding time and
enhancement of life of the die. This has also
reduced the downtime on account of
replacement of a die.
In recognition of Mr. Jamaluddin’s
contribution, the management gave a cash
award of Rs.5,000/-.

DISTRICT CRISIS GROUP,
DHENKANAL …..
A two-member delegation comprising
Mr.M.Terasaki, Marubeni Tetsugen Co., Osaka,
Japan and Mr. Shoubhik Majumdar,
Marubeni, Kolkata visited Paloncha Works, on
22nd November.
They were impressed with the production
processes, housekeeping, measures taken for
protection of environment and CSR activities
at Paloncha Works.
A team from National Bank for Agriculture and
Rural Development (NABARD), Hyderabad,
visited Women Empowerment Centre (WEC),
Paloncha, on 31st October. The team
consisted of Mr. Vijay Kumar, Chief General
Manager, Mr. K.I. Shareef, General Manager
and Mr. K. Venkateswara Rao, Assistant
General Manager.
The team interacted with the trainees at WEC,
Paloncha and was pleased with the facilities
and the curriculum of the various training
programmes.
Keeping in view the track record of NBVL,
Odisha (Unit) in Safety and the many awards
won by it for its consistent performance in
Safety, the Unit has been chosen to be part of
the “District Crisis Group, Dhenkanal” and was
invited to participate in the meeting
convened at Dhenkanal, on 10th October.
This is an achievement for the Unit,
considering the presence of many large
industries in the District.
The District Crisis Group meeting was chaired
by the Collector & District Magistrate, Deputy
Director of Factories & Boilers, Angul Division
and Assistant Director of Factories & Boilers,
Dhenkanal Zone. The Group reviewed the
On-Site Emergency Response Plan and
Accident Prevention strategies of hazardous
& Major Accident Hazard industries along with
Off-site Emergency Plan of Dhenkanal District.

Training programmes on “Human Relations &
Attitude Management” and “Stress
Management & Communications” were
conducted by Mr. R. Rajesh Murthy, Coach &

Personal Development, Hyderabad, for the
Staff of Paloncha Works, in November.
The 9th Edition of “Odisha State Safety
Conclave” was organized by Institute of
Quality & Environment Management Services
(IQEMS) and Institute of Public Enterprises (IPE),
Hyderabad at Bhubaneswar on 2nd & 3rd
November. On behalf of Odisha Works, Mr.
Suvendu Kumar Das, Safety Officer, attended
the conclave.

At Odisha Works, half yearly continual
assessment audit of EnMS (ISO 50001:2011)
was conducted by BSI, Kolkata, on 6th
November. The audit was concluded with a
recommendation to continue the
certification.

“National Pollution Prevention Day” and
“Chemical Disaster Prevention Day” were
celebrated at Odisha Works, on 2nd & 4th
December, respectively.
Awareness was created among employees,
on prevention and management of
accidents caused by chemicals, through
display of banners, administration of oath and
presentation on “safe use & handling of
different chemicals, its hazards & control
measures”. On this occasion an “Internal
Safety Audit” was also conducted at
Chemical handling area of QA & DM Plant of
FAP(O) & PP(O).

Keeping” by

KVIC,
Hyderabad
A short term training programme on
Apiculture (Honey Beekeeping) was
organized with the help of M/s Khadi & Village
Industries Commission (KVIC), Hyderabad, at
the WEC, Paloncha, from 23-27, October. A
total of 20 aspirants belonging to farming
community, in and around the Paloncha
Works, participated in the programme.
Training Session on “Safe use & handling of
different chemicals, its hazards & control
measures” in Progress at Odisha works
“National Energy Conservation Week” was
observed from 8th to 14th December, at
Odisha Works. On this occasion, drawing, quiz,
slogan writing & debate competitions were
conducted for employees, workers, colony
children and students of nearby schools in
order to raise their awareness on energy
conservation. Further, prizes were distributed
to the winners of these competitions. On this
occasion, LED Lamps were distributed to
nearby Schools & Hospital.

The trainees of 11th batch of Tally Course, who
completed their training, were awarded
certificates, at a ceremony organized in
Women Empower Center (WEC), Paloncha,
on 20th November, 2018. The certificates were
given away by Mr. K. Mykal Bose, District Co-
operative Officer, the Chief Guest on the
occasion. He appreciated the efforts of the
company in empowering the local poor
women.

A certificate awarding ceremony was
organized for the trainees of 11th batch of DTP
Course, 17th batch of Tailoring Course and 16th
batch of Beautician Course on completion of
their training at the WEC, Paloncha, on 21st
December. Mr. K. Venkateswarulu, Joint
Collector, Kothagudem, the Chief Guest, on
the occasion, gave away the certificates.
The Chief Guest applauded the contribution
of the Company in creating employment
opportunities for the rural poor.
A Blood Donation Camp, with the assistance
of Red Cross Society, Dhenkanal, was
organized at Odisha Works, on 30th October.
The Sarpanch of Kharagprasad Gram
Panchayat inaugurated the Camp. About 80
people voluntarily donated blood at this
Camp. The team from Red Cross Society
appreciated the Management of NBVL for
organising the blood donation camp.

the Company has, so far, conducted
Tally Course for 11 batches, DTP Course
for 11 batches, Tailoring Course for 17
batches and Beautician Course for 16
batches”
At the behest of Local District Administration,
a Kitchen & Dining Hall were constructed at
the “Biswa Kuntala Children Home”,
Baladiabandh, Dhenkanal, by Odisha Works.
The Home houses 44 destitute children. The
Kitchen & Dining Hall were formally
inaugurated by Sj. Nikhil Pavan Kalyan (IAS),
Collector & District Magistrate, Dhenkanal, on
2nd January. The District Child Protection
Officer, the office bearers of the Children
Home and senior officials of Odisha Works
were also present at the inauguration
function. The District Collector & Magistrate
appreciated the Company for taking up this
project and completing it to their satisfaction.

The “40th Annual Sports Day” was celebrated
by NBPS on 9th December. Mr. S.
Chandrasekar, Director (Operations),
Singareni Collieries Company Limited, graced
the function as Chief Guest and Miss A.
Tarangini, International Sepak Takraw Player,
was the Guest of Honor.
The Chief Guest and the Guest of Honor
presented trophies to the victorious house
and individual winners of games and athletic
events.
A few employees of MCL & NEZL, Maamba,
Zambia, joined hands and distributed T-Shirts
to the students (differently abled children) of
Maamba Special Primary School, Maamba,
on 28th November. The Staff of the School
expressed their happiness at this gesture.

The students of Nava Bharat Public School
(NBPS), bagged several prizes in various
categories of events at the Balotsavs
organized in Bhadachalam, Guntur,
Hyderabad and Madhira, in November. A
total of 13 prizes were bagged at the
Bhadrachalam Balotsav and 18 prizes at the
VVIT, Guntur Balotsav. Students also won
prizes at the Hyderabad and Madhira
Balotsavs.
“Children’s Day” was celebrated by NBPS, on
14th November with enthusiasm. Mock games
were conducted as part of the celebrations.

The students of NBPS participated in the CBSE
Cluster, Zonal and National Level Athletic
meets. Ms. K. Anusha won Silver medal in 400
meters at the National Level Athletic Meet
and gold medals in 400 meters & 800 meters
events at the Cluster Level Athletic Meet.
Master B. Akhil won gold medal in 800 meters
event in the Cluster Level Athletic Meet. The
Boys and Girls 4x100 meters relay teams won
Bronze medals at the Cluster Level Athletic
Meet.

The Employees of Paloncha Works
participated in Ball badminton tournament
conducted by M/s. Sponge Iron India Limited
(a Unit of NMDC) on the occasion of their
Diamond Jubilee celebrations, on 28th & 29th
December. Out of the seven teams which
participated in the tournament, Paloncha
Works team won the Third prize. The paloncha
team comprised of 8 members and was led
by Mr. B. Rama Rao, Dy. General Manager
(150MW PP). The other members included, Mr.
A.G. Shankar, Mr. V. Srinivasu,
Mr.C.V.Nagaraju, Mr. K. Srinivas, Mr. Vijay
Prakash, Mr. D.B.V.V. Srinivas and Mr. V.
Sravan. Mr. B. Rama Rao, also won the Best
Player of the tournament award.

NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS BY CORPORATE OFFICE STAFF…..
As part of the New Year celebrations at Corporate Office, an outing was organised for the Staff at
Leonia Holistic Destination (Resort), on 27th December. This was a welcome change for all the staff
from their routine life. All the staff actively participated in the event and also had a splash in the pool.
Prizes were given to teams and individuals for games and activities organised during the outing. It
was a rejuvenating experience for all the staff and they are eagerly looking forward to the next year
celebrations.
