Give. Thanks. St. Paul is gushing when he writes, “We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers” (1 Thessalonians 1:2). These words show a genuine affection for the church distant from him. It was common in the ancient world to start a letter by showing affection or disappointment, but one can hear how much he cares and appreciates the church in Thessaloniki. St.Paul says something similar in two other letters. He wanted the church to know how much he appreciated them. Every day was Thanksgiving for St. Paul! This is an example for us, too. We should show our appreciation for our brothers and sisters in Christ. I thank God every day for the church and for you. I pray for the sick and hurting, but I also try to lift up a different member every day just because they are part of the body of Christ. Today, we’d like to lift up three members are particular: Renee Pierson, Paul Bookmeyer, and Scott Lueckert. These three have just finished serving on the church council. All three are deeply connected to the life of this church and served in love and faithfulness, going above and beyond the call of duty for the sake of God’s Church. Join us in thanking God these disciples! MLLC’s new BOOK CLUB will meet again in January.

In the meantime, please read Henri Nouwen’s book called “The Return of the Prodigal

Son.”

This book will walk with us through a familiar painting and parable in a brand new light.

Copies of the book are available at church for a small fee, or via Amazon/Kindle.

MINISTRY OF THE MONTH:

WE ARE TO CARE FOR OUR HOME, OUR CITY, AND THE WORLD AS STEWARDS AND DISCIPLES OF JESUS CHRIST.

Every winter we are privileged to partner with two local social services in their ministries to local families in need. This is a wonderful opportunity to give thanks to God for God’s blessings to us in tangible, physical ways through donations of clothing, toys, and household goods. A “Thanks-Giving Tree” will be in the Fellowship Hall during the month of November with ideas for donations which will be given to the Lee’s Summit Social Services Christmas Store and Metro Lutheran Ministry Christmas Store. These two organizations serve over 1000 families during the holidays and help make Christmas a little merrier to those who seek assistance.

The MLM Christmas Store, which is open from December 2 through December 7, is held at Immanuel Lutheran in Westport. You can sign up to help at www.mlmkc.org. The LSSS store will set up the last two weeks of November and will be open for shoppers on the first two weeks of December. Both stores need volunteers to help set up the stores and to guide the shoppers. Please drop off any gifts by the tree in the Fellowship Hall by December 1st, and join us as we deliver them that afternoon!

Thanks

The annual Knotty Ladies Christmas Store will feature home crafted red and white wine - FREE when you buy an accessory!

Did You Know? It’s estimated that internationally there are between 20 million and 40 million people in modern slavery today -

namely through human trafficking and forced labor. It’s a big, big problem that is enormously daunting. Thankfully, there is something we can do about it.

Join the Knotty Ladies and HeBrews on Saturday, November 23rd at10:30am for

…an educational event over brunch where we will learn more about modern day slavery, human trafficking, sustainable fashion, and how you can help liberate those who are

oppressed in tangible, easy ways. The event will also include a clothing swap - bring as many items as you’d like to exchange for something new (to you)!

For more information or to sign up, see Pastor Christyn or visit mllchurch.com/dresssember.

WE ARE TO CARE FOR OUR HOME, OUR CITY, AND THE WORLD AS STEWARDS AND DISCIPLES OF JESUS CHRIST.

We are honored to participate in the annual Lee’s Summit Community Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, November 24th at 6:00 PM At Community of Christ Church 1101 NE Independence Ave - 64086.

This service is a time for various churches across Lee's Summit to gather, to worship, to give thanks, and to support the common mission in town.  All of the offering collected at the service

provides gas vouchers and HyVee gift cards for people stranded in Lee's Summit.   We do not have our own Thanksgiving service at MLLC, so this is a special opportunity to

gather with other Christians.  We are the only Lutheran Church in Lee's Summit that participates in this service, so I take a lot of joy in knowing that we represent our congregation

and Lutheranism in the community. We hope that you will be able to join me and other Christians in town for this special service! - Pastor Hans

At our October Council meeting, we welcomed 3 new council members (see front page) and distributed the church constitution and policy book to them. The council elected Debbie Heineman as President, Ralph Dawley as Vice President, Clare Holtz as Secretary, and Travis Hudson as Treasurer. The council is looking at ways to more effectively communicate with the church, including a Coffee Chat time between the services. The council will retreat on November 9th in order to get to know each other and to cast vision for the year ahead.
