The University began in 1796 when John Anderson, Professor of Natural Philosophy at Glasgow University, left instructions in his will for 'a place of useful learning’
In 1964, Royal Charter was granted and became the University of Strathclyde.
In 1964 – around 4,000 full-time students, In 2002 – over 24,000 full-/part time students.
Today, Strathclyde is the third largest university in Scotland.
