My mind has been drawn to the story of Peter walking on the water to Jesus. In Matthew 14:27-31 we have a great example of both active and passive faith. His eyes are fixed on Jesus and He steps confidently and firmly on the water, moving towards Jesus. His faith is causing action that is taking him closer and closer to Jesus. But all of a sudden, his focus shifts, and he starts letting the world around him (wind, waves, and storm) have his attention instead. He stops dead in his tracks, his faith no longer active, and no longer is he moving towards the Savior. At this point, Peter starts sinking. He is being overwhelmed by everything around him and his faith has left him. It is dead at this moment. In desperation, he cries out to Jesus, and is pulled out of the storm and out of his sinking by the firm hand of Jesus, Himself. The parallels we can draw from this story for our own walks and faith in Jesus are many, but let’s focus on a few specific ones for now. First, Peter is motivated in the beginning and his faith is strong. He starts out with bold steps towards Jesus. So many of us are so similar to Peter. When we first started our walks and found our faith in Jesus, we were excited and walking boldly with Him. We were producing great fruit for the Kingdom and our faith was evident. People knew who we belonged to by our actions. Second, Peter started becoming overcome by his surrounding and his faith quickly died. Why has the world so dominated our lives that we have let it become the priority in our lives instead of focusing on Jesus daily and letting Him use us to reach out serve and love others?

Is our faith dead? Are we moving towards Jesus anymore? Are we producing fruit making our faith and our

identity evident to others? Are we helping the Church to grow and serve? Third, Peter cried out for His Savior to

rescue him. At no point are we not able to cry out to our Jesus and ask Him to reignite our faith and set our feet

firmly back on a path walking towards Him in active faith. He is always there waiting for us to need Him and

want Him, to be with Him. He will never leave you hanging when you find yourself sinking and dead in your

faith. Just cry out to Him. Ask Him to use you. Ask Him to show you where He wants you to serve and what gifts

He’s given you to carry out His tasks. Church, let’s renew and activate our faith in Jesus, and let’s make it

evident Who we belong to. Natasha

One Step Closer

This Sunday, we talked about faith that is alive and active versus

a faith that is dead. James 2:17 says, “In the same way, faith by

itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” I know this was

a challenging topic to cover, but so integral in our personal walks

with Jesus, as well as the life of the living Church. My mind has

been drawn to the story of Peter walking on the water to Jesus. In

Matthew 14:27-31 we have a great example of both active and

passive faith. At first, Peter is motivated to move towards His

Savior and steps out on faith onto the stormy waves. His eyes are

fixed on Jesus and He steps confidently and firmly on the water,

moving towards Jesus. His faith is causing action that is taking

him closer and closer to Jesus. But all of a sudden, his focus

shifts, and he starts letting the world around him (wind, waves,

and storm) have his attention instead. He stops dead in his tracks,

his faith no longer active, and no longer is he moving towards the

Savior. At this point, Peter starts sinking. He is being

overwhelmed by everything around him and his faith has left him.

It is dead at this moment. In desperation, he cries out to Jesus, and

is pulled out of the storm and out of his sinking by the firm hand

of Jesus, Himself. The parallels we can draw from this story for

our own walks and faith in Jesus are many, but let’s focus on a

few specific ones for now. First, Peter is motivated in the

beginning and his faith is strong. He starts out with bold steps

towards Jesus. So many of us are so similar to Peter. When we

first started our walks and found our faith in Jesus, we were

excited and walking boldly with Him. We were producing great

fruit for the Kingdom and our faith was evident. People knew

who we belonged to by our actions. Second, Peter started

becoming overcome by his surrounding and his faith quickly

died. Why has the world so dominated our lives that we have let it

become the priority in our lives instead of focusing on Jesus daily

and letting Him use us to reach out serve and love others?

In an effort to better serve you and minister to you, we are in the process of updating our contact information of our FFC families. We would greatly appreciate updated information on you and your family and are asking every family to please fill out a yellow

form. If you need one come by the office or pick one up in the overflow room. Our goal is to have current information on all our FCC families and then print out a current roster for our FCC families. Please place it in the offering tray Sunday or return it to the church office by February 28. Please note if you have a current picture of you / family you can email it to Marsha Dulin at [email protected], text to 785.448.4367 or bring it in and we will scan it into our files. These pictures will also be incorporated in the new roster. These pictures are so useful to new families to the church for getting to know who everyone is.

ROOTS NON-PERISABLE FOOD DRIVE It’s not too late…We will continue to collect any non-perishable goods for our local ECKAN food pantry thru Wednesday, March 9. Our Roots Kids program is diligently working on “growing in their servant hood” this quarter. Donation boxes are located in the sanctuary by the stage or drop them off during the week to the church office.

A NOTE FROM BRETT… Hey everyone, I just wanted to start off and say thank you for being so welcoming to me, and making me feel at home here at FCC. I’m ecstatic about getting to know all of you and work to further God’s Kingdom together! I am so thankful to God for leading me here, in a place that’s sold out to Jesus; this is an amazing place where God is definitely at work. Secondly I’ve got some announce-ments for everybody! This upcoming week we will be starting a new series entitled “LEGACY.” I’d like to get a running start into this new youth ministry position by defining legacy in which this youth ministry is named. We will be looking at different iconic figures in the Bible and look at the LEGACY they left behind and how we can continue their legacy in our own lives individually and as a group! Thirdly, I wanted to let you know that you’ve got some awesome kids and I can’t thank you enough for entrusting a part of their lives to me…I will do the best I can to show God’s love and disciple them into Kingdom Workers. Love ya Guys!!! Brett Hartman

OUR FAMILY LIFE CENTER ABOUT TO HAPPEN The FCC Building Committee has now received the Preliminary Construction Schedule from our architect and our project manager. It shows the construction contract being signed on March 28th (this assuming that the bid will be within our budget, which it is expected to be), with construction work beginning immediately thereafter. If everything goes like clockwork and according to plan, our multi-purpose addition will be completed by the end of August. Wow! We have work to do right away clearing out the East Wing (which will be totally renovated), cleaning out the attic, and finding a place to store all that stuff (Men’s Work Day?). Then, too, the Christian Education Committee will need to shuffle some classes around---there will be major inconveniences for us all while construction is going on—no doubt some parking issues as well. But what a joy it will be to see our dreams coming true. Praise the Lord! Meantime, we all need to keep praying that: 1. The process goes smoothly without any major hitches, 2. The bid comes in within our budget, 3. That building funds keep coming in and, in fact, increase (we estimate we have 90% of needed funding and pray that those waiting on the sideline to see us break ground before donating to the building fund will now contribute generously). Many of us now accept the time to build is now, even if not all the funding is in place and it becomes necessary to carry a small short term loan. The alternative is to wait and face higher building costs, while at the same time missing out on the benefit of using the new facility. This is indeed a leap of faith, but with the Lord’s help we can do this!

GOOD FRIDAY SERVICES MARCH 25

~ will be held at the First Christian Church beginning at 12:10 p.m.

Romans 5:6-8 You see, at just the right time, when we were

still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous

man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates

his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (NIV)
