IFEX 2013 at Kolkata (India), Metallurgical Conference in Bulgaria, Casting Clinic in Spain, Litmash Metallurgy (Russia) : the foundry places to be

After a successful first appearance in Bangalore at IFEX 2012 to show our great interest and involvement on India foundry market, FerroPem has attended to IFEX 2013 in Kolkata, last January. This exhibition was a great success to us and we were pleased to present our latest developments on inoculations and to meet our Indian prospects and customers. We look forward to IFEX 2014 in Ahmedabad next February !

Then FerroPem participated mid of April to a Metallurgy Conference in Bulgaria, in the city of Lovech. We had the opportunity to present ourselves and our products and our latest developments to foundrymen from Bulgaria and Macedonia. 63 foundries, representing by more than 90 individuals, were attending this exhibition

End of May FerroPem has organized, jointly with some partners and our local agent (Esfémétal), the Spanish Casting Clinic located this year at FerroAtlantica's plant of Boo. More than 40 people, representing 18 Spanish foundries, attended to this great event (2 above pictures left). Finally last June, with the support of our Finnish agent representing FerroPem in Russia, we took part to Metallurgy Litmash exhibition in Moscow (above picture right). It has been an amazing fair with a lot of prospects and new contacts for our representatives and we look forward getting very positive results and developments from this experience.

Castexpo : FerroPem and the US, a long common business story

FerroPem is making sales in the US since many years. USA is currently our fourth largest market and it is still fast growing ! We are selling around to numerous cast iron foundries and to ductile iron pipes manufacturers too. To reinforce our presence there, FerroPem has exhibited itself at Castexpo, located this year in St Louis – Missouri, beginning of April. Our US representatives, as well as some people of our Sales Team from France were present during this exhibition. Furthermore to Castexpo, FerroPem will take part to Keith Millis Symposium in Nashville, next October, with a

technical presentation presented by our Technical Manager.

Shrinkage defect

FeSiLa10® : another new inoculant launched ! As already announced in the previous Newsletter, and jointly with the launching on the market of our new product "SpherixPlus®", FerroPem has developed an additional new inoculant. This new one is based on our existing product called FeSiLa® (Ferro-Silico Lanthanum). We enhance range of capabilities and possibilities of this product by developing a new version : FeSiLaPlus®. This new version of FeSiLa® is very powerful against shrinkage defects (by promoting multi-axial solidification) and gives furthermore a very strong inoculation. It can positively replace present products from the competition containing high Rare earth content. It is as much, or sometimes more, powerful than competitors' products but much cheaper. FeSilaPlus® can be used either with grey or ductile irons. Moreover we still preserve usual well-known effects of Lanthanum as strong de-oxidizing and de-sulphurising element, operative inoculant for reducing chill and to counteract the effect of undesirable elements in the iron. This product is available in grains or stream granulometry and can be delivered in big bags, drums or papers bags.

Inobar® as cover of FeSiMg treatment: high improvement in Mg recovery Since many years, FerroPem is promoting Inobar® as a pre-conditioner for both grey and ductile iron. The concept of pre-conditioning the iron with high barium content inoculant, together with the usage of late stream inoculation was originally developed by FerroPem in the late 70s. Now, another practice with Inobar® is well-spread and very effective : to use Inobar® as part of the cover during nodularization treatment (FeSiMg treatment), for either Tundish Cover or Sandwich processes, in order to highly improve magnesium recovery.

In fact barium, which is the base of Inobar®, is addict of oxygen and will merge preferably with prevailing oxygen in the ladle. Thanks to this, instead of melting with oxygen for making magnesium oxides, magnesium will remain "free", more active and more dedicated to nodularization process. As magnesium is more operative, the magnesium recovery is highly improved : in many foundries, and with some favorable conditions, we have seen improvements up to 15% and sometimes even little bit more ! Thanks to this positive result, you can foresee a reduction in FeSiMg addition in the ladle. We recommend using Inobar® jointly with steel cover on the top of your FeSiMg. By using Inobar® such way, you still keep all advantages of Inobar® as pre-conditioning inoculant too (long fading, dry slags easy to remove, high nucleation, longer lifetime of refractories, better machinability of castings…). Feel free to contact FerroPem or your local distributor for more info.
