* Please stand as you are comfortable
(Please write your Celebrations and Concerns in the Prayer Book on the stand in the back of the
Sanctuary. These will be read and prayed for during the Sharing of Concerns and Celebrations.)
COUNTDOWN “Mother’s Day”
WELCOME, GREETING & ANNOUNCEMENTS Rev. Fred Baum
*OPENING HYMN “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” No. 89
*CALL TO WORSHIP James 1:2-4
Leader: Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials
of many kinds,
People: because you know that the testing of your faith produces
perseverance.
Leader: Let perseverance finish its work
People: so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing.
*CONFESSION OF FAITH I Cor. 15:1-6 and Col. 1:15-20
Leader: This is the good news which we have received, in which we stand, and
by which we are saved:
People: Christ died for our sins, was buried, was raised on the third day,
and appeared first to the women, then to Peter and the Twelve, and then
to many faithful witnesses.
We believe Jesus is the Christ, the Anointed One of God, the firstborn of
all creation, the firstborn from the dead, in whom all things hold
together, in whom the fullness of God was pleased to dwell by the power
of the Spirit.
Christ is the head of the body, the church, and by the blood of the cross
reconciles all things to God. Amen.
OLD TESTAMENT LESSSON Genesis 12:1-7 The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your
father’s household to the land I will show you.
2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you;
I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
3
I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” 4
So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was
seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. 5
He took his wife Sarai, his
nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had
acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there. 6
Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at
Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. 7
The LORD appeared to
Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So, he built an altar there
to the LORD, who had appeared to him.

PASTORAL PRAYER Rev. Jon Leonard
SHARING OF CONCERNS AND CELEBRATIONS Rev. Fred Baum
LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass
against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For
thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

COMISSIONING OF STEPHEN MINISTER: Rose Bull
OFFERING “The Gift of Love” (arr. Hal Hopson) Mary Bellah “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a
few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s
happiness!” ~ Matthew 25:21

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION Rev. Fred Baum
GOSPEL LESSON Matthew 25:14-30 14
“For it will be as when a man going on a journey called his servants and entrusted to
them his property; 15
to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each
according to his ability. Then he went away. 16
He who had received the five talents
went at once and traded with them; and he made five talents more. 17
So also, he who
had the two talents made two talents more. 18
But he who had received the one talent
went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money. 19
Now after a long time the
master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. 20
And he who had
received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you
delivered to me five talents; here I have made five talents more.’ 21
His master said to
him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will
set you over much; enter into the joy of your master.’ 22
And he also who had the two
talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here I have
made two talents more.’ 23
His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful
servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much; enter into the joy
of your master.’ 24
He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying,
‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering
where you did not winnow; 25
so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the
ground. Here you have what is yours.’ 26
But his master answered him, ‘You wicked
and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sowed, and gather where I
have not winnowed? 27
Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers,
and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. 28
So take the
talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents. 29
For to everyone who has
will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what
he has will be taken away. 30
And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness;
there men will weep and gnash their teeth.
Leader: This is the word of God for the people of God. People: Thanks be to God!

Celebrating Twenty Years
Today is the 20
th Anniversary of Stephen Ministry at Vista UMC. Our church
has been blessed to be a part of this dynamic world-wide ministry. One of our
church founders, Mary Louise Roberson, was one of several church members
who attended Leaders training in 1999. She and others then returned from
training to begin recruiting church members to be trained as Stephen
Ministers. We are grateful for Vista UMC Founders and their outreach vision.
TODAY IS A/P SPONSOR APPRECIATION SUNDAY Please join us for a piece of cake in appreciation of our many
generous donors to this mission project. Thank you for your generous support of these students.

History of Ed’s and Admin Building
Administration Building: In August 1993, the Board of Congregational Development approved the relocation of the modular which was being used by Desert Skies United Methodist Church. It is a 48’ X 60’ building which housed our offices, classrooms and worship/fellowship area. On Sunday, October 17, 1993 with over 100 people present, the congregation voted the master plan for our church site. The next hurdle was site preparation to receive the modular. Working with Leon Vickers, an engineer and Albanese, Brooks and Mackey, our architects, a Development Plan was drawn and detailed architectural drawing were submitted to the Building Committee for approval. There was a number of set-backs which delayed the implementation of our goal to have the building on site by the end of the year or by Easter! It was during this time when we received an additional gift of $30,000 from Trinity United Methodist Church, another partnership church. The Building Committee kept its cool and moved forward to get the plans finally approved by the county. A contractor was hired in July 1994 to over-see the preparation of the site and the move of the modular from Desert Skies. On July 21, the modular was moved to our site. The end was in sight. With a great deal of labor from the congregation, the modular was cleaned, painted, concrete poured, parking lot chip-sealed and furniture ordered. Sunday, August 28, was Exodus Sunday. We began our worship service at Coronado Middle School. This was the last time we would meet in the school. Half way through the service, we picked up all our worship and Sunday School material and made our exodus to our new building. As most of the congregation stood, because the sanctuary chairs had not come in as yet, we closed the service in our new building. On Sunday, September 4 we held our first full service, with chairs, in our new building. That morning we served the Sacrament of Holy Communion and celebrated our 4
th anniversary!
On Sunday, November 6
th, we consecrated our new building. Anita Iceman, District
Superintendent, Larry Hinshaw, Director of Congregational Development and John Ness, Executive Director of the United Methodist Development Fund were in attendance to help celebrate the day. The Sacrament of Holy Communion was celebrated. Vista ended 1994 with 170 members and attendance was averaging about 130. Ed’s Building: In 1997 water and sewer lines were engineered and completed (no more potable water and septic tank/leach field). We were growing and needed more space. Thus a second used modular building was purchased, with an extension built for the two restrooms, and transported from Phoenix to be our sanctuary to become Ed’s Building. The cement fellowship covered patio was extended to connect the two buildings. Byron Haines, a retired United Methodist pastor in Vista’s congregation, made a beautiful four foot cross and communion table of native mesquite wood. Our first worship service in our new sanctuary was October 1997.
