Visual Identity GuidelinesCorrectly Using the Artwork and Artwork Approvals Process

Welcome to The Arc’s Wings for Autism™ program. These Visual Identity Guidlines are intended to help you produce materials for a successful Wings for Autism event. In these guidelines, we will cover how to effectively and appropriately use the visual elements (artwork and logos) that represent the program and give you the information you need to work with commercial printers and other vendors to produce your materials.

The Wings for Autism™ artwork should never be altered or combined with other graphic elements or type EXCEPT:replacing the three-letter airport code on the blue tower. This will be changed to reflect the local event location. When changing the three-letter airport code, DO NOT change the color, type, or position on the graphic.

The Arc’s logo MUST be represented in all materials. If your chapter is using The Arc’s brand, this can be accomplished by using your chapter logo. If your chapter is not using The Arc’s brand, you must place The Arc’s national logo or your “affiliated chapter of The Arc” logo on all materials. The Arc’s logo cannot be altered in any way. You will be supplied with The Arc’s Visual Identity Guidelines which will answer questions about how to place The Arc’s logo. Additionally, you must use the “boilerplate” (see below) on certain materials.

IMPORTANT!

Do:• Ensure the Wings for Autism artwork is promient and unaltered and that it is clear that The Arc

(and your chapter) are presenting the program. • Ensure The Arc’s logo is included on all materials along with your chapter logo if different

from The Arc’s national logo. Use language such as “a program of” or “presents” to tie The Arc’s identity to the Wings identity.

• Follow The Arc’s Visual Idenity Guidelines for information on how to work with The Arc’s logo. • Follow the general colors and type (font) found in the Wings for Autism artwork and/or for

The Arc’s brand (more information on page 5).

Do Not:• Break the individual visual elements apart, rearrange them or change the type or color

scheme.• Add any words or graphic elements to the artwork.• Replace any words, visual element, color, etc, EXCEPT the three-letter airport code which can

be changed to reflect the local event information. • If changing the three-letter airport code, do not change the color or font of the letters or their

position on the artwork.

Minimum Size: to ensure legibility and clarity of the visual identity, do not reduce it to a size which causes the “Wings for Autism” type to be smaller than approximately 9 pt. If you are working with a small space, instead of shrinking the artwork, use the words “Wings” or “Wing for Autism” in the same typeface used in the artwork (see t-shirt example next page). However, please ensure the full artwork appears prominently elsewhere.

How Do I Recognize The Arc and/or Partner/Sponsor/Participating Chapter or Other Logos in My Materials?

You can recognize sponsors, partners and other particpating organizations in the materials you are using. DO NOT add logos or type to the Wings for Autism artwork. Instead, incorporate the necessary additional logos or text in your design. Make sure the additional logos, type or any other graphic elements do not infringe on the Wings for Autism artwork. Arrange other organization’s logos relative to the level of participation and relationship between them.

Boilerplate language must be added to collateral materials (brochures, merchandise, signage, letterhead...). The abbreviated version can be used in materials with limited space. Some materials, such as buttons or signs, do not require the statement as long as it is readily available on other materials.

Artwork Approval:

The Arc will provide each participating chapter with the Wings for Autism visual identity as a high resolution .eps file, lower resoultion .jpg file and .png file (transparent background). Also, we will provide similar files for The Arc’s national logo and a sublicensing agreement for its use if the particpating chapter is not already licensed to use The Arc’s new brand. Visual Identity Guidelines for The Arc’s brand also will be provided. Chapters can use these materials and the attached Wings for Autism Visual Identity Guidelines to help them create the marketing and collateral materials necessary for the program including such items as:

• Brochures• Flyers• Advertising• Signage• Merchandise and Giveaways (t-shirts, hats, buttons)

Participating chapters MUST submit designs of all created materials to The Arc’s national office for approval prior to distirbution. This is for the purpose of ensuring The Arc’s brand and the Wings for Autism visual identity are repre-sented appropriately.

While the content and design of each piece is up to you and should refelct the unique identity of your chapter and your program, The Arc’s national brand and the Wings for Autism visual identity must be represented according to the guidelines offered here.

The Process:

1. Submit any and all designs in .jpg or .pdf file formats to Shelly DeButts at [email protected] with the name of your organization and your contact information. Put WINGS MATERI-ALS APPROVAL in the subject line.

2. You will recieve a response in 2-3 business days with approval or specific changes that need to be made to obtain approval.

3. If changes are required, please resubmit. Resubmissions will be addressed as soon as pos-sible, but please allow at least one full business day.

4. Once approved, materials do not need to be resubmitted for minor changes, such as to text, as long as The Arc and the Wings for Autism visual identities are not altered. Also, if a design will be adapted for mulitple uses, only the original design requires approval (as long as the visual identities are not altered in subsequent formats).

Checklist:

__Does your design contain The Arc’s logo, either as part of your chapter logo or with the addition of the national logo? __Is the Wings for Autism visual identity unaltered and highly visible? __Does the “boilerplate” text appear somewhere in your materials? __Are you using colors and typefaces (fonts) which are the same or complimentary of the Wings for Autism and/or The Arc’s colors and typeface? __Have you allowed enough time to recieve approval of your materials from The Arc’s na-tional office and to make any revisions if necessary?

On the next page, you will find information about the various components of the Wings for Autism artwork and The Arc’s brand and explains the different logos you will be work-ing with. Your printer or other vendors may need to know the specific font or codes for the colors we are using in order to reproduce them. It is important that you use these colors and types (fonts) consistently.
