VISUAL IDENTITY The Visual Identity guidelines are part of an integrated communications program created to ensure consistency and uniformity among Centre College’s many publications. The College strives to maintain a consistent visual identity as a way of communicating the institution’s strength and integrity. A unified approach to graphics fosters a strong, consistent institutional image for both internal and external audiences. The Centre word mark is the keystone of the College’s visual identity and should be used on all communications materials. The word mark is set in Bembo. It has been used in the College’s word mark for decades and carries a sense of history and tradition.

ACCEPTABLE WORD MARK

The only acceptable word marks are pictured on this page. It may not be reconstructed or altered in any way. The word mark has been carefully letterspaced and should only be reproduced from high-resolution digital files available on the web at www.centre.edu/brandstandards. Installed fonts are not required to import, display, or print the Centre word mark. Artwork can be downloaded as vector art in eps, tiff, and jpeg formats. Do not use computer fonts to recreate the wordmark.

WORD MARK COLOR

Adhering to the following color reproduction guidelines will help in creating a consistent image and maintaining the visual impact of the word mark. On a white or light background, print the word mark in black or PMS 116 (PMS 115U on uncoated stock). On a dark or black background, the word mark should print PMS 116 (PMS 115U on uncoated stock) or white (reversed).

MINIMUM SPACE AND SIZE RESTRICTIONS

Maintain a minimum distance (equivalent to the x-height of “ENTRE” as shown) between the word mark and any other elements appearing with it or with the edge of the page. For legibility, the minimum size at which it is acceptable to reduce the Centre word mark is a 7/8" (5p3) width.

IMPROPER WORD MARK USAGE

Guidelines set on the previous page for use of the word mark must be followed to protect the integrity of the Centre brand. Improper word mark usage is illustrated on this page. It is very important that the logo is always displayed correctly. This includes always using the correct typeface and color.

WORD MARK AND LOGO USE WITH DEPARTMENT, OFFICE, OR PROGRAM

Offices, departments, programs, special committees, clubs, or organizations may occasionally desire a logo or graphic identify that differs from Centre College’s existing brand identity. However, building brand-name recognition is difficult; therefore, other logos, word marks, or graphic elements may add to name confusion and ultimately dilute Centre’s brand. A unified approach that fosters a strong, consistent institutional image for both internal and external audiences is important and provides recognition that an department or organization is part of the College.

A graphic mark may be developed for a broad institutional goal, such as a capital campaign. This is approved on a case-by-case basis however, and is done at the discretion of the communications office.

The Centre College word mark and logo can be combined with department or office names. Contact the Communications Office to have this set up for your use. The department or office should be in Avenir Next Regular with kerning set to +50. Please contact the Communications Office to have the word mark or logo produced for your office or program.

Centre colors are gold and white. Gold should be used frequently for a consistent look and is an important tool for building school pride and brand recognition. The extended color palette complements the official colors, but should be used sparely. Consistent use of the official colors and extended color palette is critical to the success of the College’s visual identity system.

Pantone color formulas are provided to ensure accurate and consistent reproduction of the color palette. The Pantone Matching System (PMS) is designed for use in printing, so using the provided color formulas for other materials may not accurately match the College’s colors. In these cases, color swatches should be provided to the vendor so that Centre’s official colors can be replicated and matched exactly.

The following typefaces are to be used when producing a Centre College publication. Consistent use of these typefaces will assure the College maintains its brand look.

The College’s primary typefaces are Adobe Garamond and Avenir Next. Garamond should be used primarily for body copy, and Avenir Next is best for captions, headlines, subheads, and pull-out quotes.

SECONDARY TYPEFACE

Bebas Neue is a secondary font and should be used sparingly. Bebas Neue displays only in capitals letters, thus it should be used only for headlines and subheads.

LOGO AND WORD MARK TYPEFACE Bembo is used in the logo and word mark. It should ONLY be used to produce the logo or word mark.

SUBSTITUTE TYPEFACES If you do not have Avenir Next or Adobe Garamond, please substitute Trebuchet MS for Avenir Next and Times New Roman for Adobe Garamond.

POWERPOINT TEMPLATE

A template has been developed for Centre College PowerPoint presentations. The template includes a cover and interior pages. The template is available for download at www.centre.edu/brandstandards.

The cover page includes a style sheet for a title, introductory sentence or paragraph, author, and author’s title. The interior pages include a style sheet for headings, subheads, and text. A footer with the Centre logo appears on all pages. Photographs or illustrations can be used on any or all pages to enhance the presentation.

The typeface styles are part of the PowerPoint template, but if you don't have the recommended typefaces, Trebuchet MS can be substituted.
