VIT CAMPUS – GENESIS

Swami Vivekananda said 'Education is not the amount of information that is put into your brain and runs riot there, undigested, all your life. We must have life-building, man-making, character making assimilation of ideas. If you have assimilated five ideas and made them your life and character, you have more education than any man who has got by-heart a whole library.' Swamiji advocated the concept of 'total development' of man which includes physical, mental, emotional and spiritual development. He also advocated incorporation of science and technology in curricula and laid emphasis on technical education that will develop industries.

However, the rapid growth of the economy and resultant surge in the required number of engineering graduates by the industry, seem to have led to compromises in the quality of these graduates in terms of their total development.

Inspired by the thoughts and ideas as propounded by Swami Vivekananda, Bagaria Education Trust decided to launch the two engineering Institutes namely Vivekananda Institute of Technology (VIT) and Vivekananda Institute of Technology- East (VIT - East) from the session 2008-09. These Institutes are endeavouring to develop physical, mental, emotional and spiritual faculties of students with a view to making them techno-managers of global standard.

CAMPUS

VIT has a sprawling campus which is spread over 45 acres of land and is surrounded by JDA approved residential colonies. It is about 2 KM to the east of the existing SKIT's Jaipur Campus. VIT Campus is about 6 KM from Jaipur Airport and about 20 KM from the main Jaipur Bus Stand and Jaipur Junction Railway station. The nearest Railway station is Gator Jagatpura which is only 5 KM from VIT Campus. The campus is well connected by city buses (Route No. 7 and 17 buses ply via Jagatpura). The institute buildings are very airy and the classrooms and labs are quite spacious. Special care has been taken for physically challenged students by providing a lift, ramp and wheel chair in the academic block.

ABOUT THE PROMOTERS

Bagaria Education Trust was constituted by a group of professionals from Rajasthan who felt that special efforts were needed for promoting education in the rural areas particularly amongst rural women. Their maiden venture was a special drive called 'Shiksha Karmi' for educating the daughter-in-laws of the villages. These women folk were trained to impart education to the village children. This initiative later got the shape of Gramothan Vidyapeeth, the School established in Nagaur in the year 1992.

Taking another lead in this direction, the promoters established the Swami Keshvanand Institute of Technology, Management & Gramothan at Jaipur in the year 2000. Another venture in the field of engineering education was the Marudhar Engineering College at Bikaner which came up in 2003.

VIT Campus, comprising of Vivekananda Institute of Technology and Vivekananda Institute of Technology (East), is an attempt to usher in technology revolution by using modern management techniques and harnessing the potential of India. The contributions of the great people who devoted their life for the cause of education and youth have always inspired the promoters and, therefore, the Institutes have been named after the great Swami Vivekananda.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

The conception and inception of Vivekananda Institute of Technology and Vivekananda Institute of Technology (East) is the outcome of our successful foray in the field of Engineering and Management education in the form of Swami Keshvanand Institute of Technology (SKIT), Jaipur, and Marudhar Engineering College, Bikaner, and direly felt need of establishing more such institutions to groom dedicated and efficient techno-managers committed to moral and ethical values, who can effectively negotiate with the contemporary and future global challenges and contribute constructively in the development of human society at large. The ideals of great reformist, educationist and philosopher, Swami Vivekananda, who compelled the world to recall the everlasting glory of Indian civilization, are the guiding principle of these institutions, so that we not only keep pace with and lead in technological development but also be governed by the time tested moral, ethical and social values of Indian culture.

MESSAGE FROM THE VICE CHAIRMAN & MANAGING TRUSTEE

With the robust growth of Indian economy and its indispensable participation in the global arena, we endeavour to contribute our bit in this process by providing conducive and encouraging environment for the growth of quality education, effective industry-academia interface and constructive research. The nurturing and culmination of well rounded techno-managers possessing global competencies with firm grounding in their culture and value system is the challenge that we have set for ourselves to meet through VIT Campus Institutions and the VIT University, Jaipur which is being launched from the current academic session 2012-13.

To ensure enhanced employability of our students, great emphasis has been laid on keeping them abreast with the latest technological advancements through persistently providing them with the state-of-the-art infrastructure in consonance with the contemporary and future needs of the global industry. Emphasis is also laid on developing life skills, like, communication and presentation skills, leadership, innovation and creativity, etc. which have always been and will remain a key factor in determining the employability of a person. Our endeavour is to bridge the gap between industry requirement and human resource available by enhancing skill sets required. We are committed to impart education aiming towards industry institute interface to our students so as to transform them into efficient work force.

The Founders of the VIT University, Jaipur have experience of over two decades in the education sector. With their active and continuous interaction with educationalist and industrialists they have never looked back and have carved a name for themselves in the field of higher and technical education. Today, the total student strength, in all the institutions established by the founders is over 9000: this includes the Gramothan Vidyapeeth (since 1992), SKIT Campus (since 2000), Marudhar Campus (since 2003) and the VIT Campus, established in 2008.

It is based on this rich experience that the promoters, being forward looking, have ventured into establishing the VIT University, Jaipur. The University is being established under “The VIT University, Jaipur Act, 2012” by the Rajasthan State Legislative Assembly (Act 11 of 2012), and is expected to be confirmed by the end of April, 2012 and approved by UGC under Section 2(f).
