The globalization and industrialization had made societies to think about new ways of standardized processes which has ended up destroying the environment, not to forget its native, traditional and cultural villages and their costumes with the different ways of living in the various living space. On the path pursuing a sustainable development of humanity by reconstructing cities, it is important to keep the global vision in mind without omitting the side of knowledge and local participation that is going to generate the process of communities and the use of native materials of sustainability.

Bamboo is a giant grass which grows in the tropics. The impact of bamboo creates a social, educational, environmental, political and economic dynamic in its surrounding throughout Latin America. One of the outstanding bamboo spicy for all its beneficiaries is called Guadua Angustifolia Knuth. Its cultural and economic development and preservation of hydraulic means in countries of Latin America as Venezuela, Brazil, Columbia, Argentina, Guyana, Peru, Surinam, Mexico, Ecuador, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama has taken a major role.

Guadua is native in this region and it is an excellent material for constructions with the advantage of biomechanics compared to steel. Its special resistance and enforcement of bending is very important for constructions in areas of high risks of earth quakes. It has various benefits for the environment. Forests of guadua regulate the water of the rivers and absorb carbon dioxide, in exchange of produced oxygen. In this way it contributes a relief to the climate change, controls erosions, attracts the wildlife and gives a shelter to the parrots and enriches the eco system. Additionally it contributes organic material and regulates the sea level in the river basins (up to 2 cm each day). It becomes a highly renewable wood substitute, helping tropical forests and jungles in danger of extinction.

Nevertheless, Guadua Angustifolia Knuth is a resource that is much more valued in other countries abroad such as China, Austria, Germany, Spain, Thailand, Vietnam etc. They make a better research and use of this resource. In Columbia we are in a state of rescuing indigenous through bamboo. We are seeking for means to reduce the environmental impact of logging of native forests and propose methods for a cleaner construction. To improve the public policies for the use of guadua and the housings, we are searching for an auto sustainability through the resource and impulsive process of community for the development of sustainability.

The Festival visualizes the technical, social and environmental innovations with guadua which are developed in Cali and in this region given to 1200 people who visited us. VivaGaudua is an event to attract tourists and

• Improve the communication and cooperation between the governmental institutions and different groups of research, education, production, management, use and commerce of guadua. • Contribute detailed plans and projects in this particular region, resulted from the meeting and the team work of the groups involved with guadua. • To support tourism in Cali, Valle del Cauca and Columbia with its landscape and culture of guadua.

In the morning we are going to offer a variety of theoretical as practical workshops which consist of 30% theory and 70% practice. One can choose a workshop and participate. Throughout the time of the festival every participant works on a product that is going to be developed and presented by the day of Viva Guadua artistica. The evenings are occupied for the high level panels and the conferences.
