CLOUD BACKGROUND

• Latest buzz term of the IT Industry!

• Cloud computing dates back to 1969 when J.C.R.

Licklider introduced ARPANET which became the

internet

• Is it Virtualization or Grid Computing or MSP or ASP or

SaaS or what?

• Confusion surrounding the definition

• Ask ten professionals and you will get ten different

WHAT IS CLOUD COMPUTING?

• Cloud computing is:

– Virtualization of the underlying infrastructure (hardware and data layer) up to the operating system. It is unaware of the application layer

– Allows users to obtain computing capabilities (on-demand) through the internet from a remote network of servers on a pay-as-you-go basis

• Don’t confuse it with hosting services at an ISP
