Hello to all VK DMR Users, Welcome to our 8th edition newsletter. We have had another large take up of new DMR users on our VK-DMR Network from our last newsletter number 7 in November 2017, as we are now in April 2018 we have grown in numbers again. We also welcome a New Repeaters to our VK-DMR Network and the Call signs are VK3RPS, VK3RPT, VK2RAO, VK2RMB, VK2RCV, VK4RNX, soon VK4RSL at Noosa So you can now see that we have a large VK DMR Network in VK, and with 1324 Users that have ID’s for VK we are growing all the time, and with a growing number of DMR Repeaters been connected all the time. We are also still waiting on the WIA and ACMA for new Repeater call sign’s to be allocated for our VK-DMR Network, as I know of 6 that have applied and still waiting, and with the on going issues within the WIA, we will just have to wait for the new Repeater Call sign’s coming On line, as the growing number of Amateurs are now looking at DMR as a real Digital solution in VK. Also you can use TG 8 on TS 1 and this will connect local area VK-DMR repeaters and not key up all of the VK-DMR Network

Some Configurations setting that need to be set in your DMR Radio, for it to work correctly

Radio ID: your ID Number that was issued to you from the DMR-MARC ID Team. TX Preamble: 960mS Timeslot number for the Channel you are using TS 1 or TS 2, just remember that not all Talk Groups are supported on both TS Example TG 1 WW is on TS 1, and NOT TS 2, and the same for TG 13 WW English is on TS 1 and NOT TS 2, also remember NOT to make up your own TG & TS. So follow our TG & TS information in this or any new newsletters we put out, so you can update you DMR radio. Do not makeup any TG on ant TS, as we have on the listed TG and TS set in our Bridge Server, as they will not be past or connected around VK

Admit Criteria should be set to Colour code free (The radio will check for an idle channel prior to allowing a transmission.) This option is also referred to as "Polite to All" channel access.) and In Call Criteria should be set to Follow Admit Criteria (The radio will follow the polite Admit Criteria rules while in a call.) TOT: (Time out Timer) 180 Seconds (3 Min), Talk Permit Tone should be Ticked (Turned on) as this helps you when you have a connection to the Repeater as once you press and hold the PTT it send out a series of Connection requests to the repeater and if connected and synched you will get the Connection beep from your speaker so you can just start talking. Group Call Hang Time to 3000mS (3 Seconds)

Some Configurations setting that need to be set in your DMR Radio, for it to work correctly

Private Calling, is NOT supported on the VK-DMR Network, we do not have Private calling on our VK-DMR Network as it only allows 2 users to talk and will tie up the Network. Digital Emergency is Not to be set on your DMR Radio as we do not Monitor the Digital Emergency feature that is built into your DMR Radio. Also GPS is NOT supported in the VK-DMR Network, as NOT all GPS units in the Radios use the same protocol and cannot communicate with other GPS products, and also puts more loading on the VK-DMR Network. We have a fully functioning DMR Network, and we are adding more users and Repeaters to the Network all the time. Radios need to connect to our VK-DMR Network, as we have currently 30+ Repeaters in our VK-DMR Network.

VK DMR Newsletter

Just remember that Foundation Calls Cannot even use a DMR Dongle, Openspot Or even any DMR Device that connects to the Internet

You need to make a Contact List, and in this contact list you need to make GROUP Call Numbers as follows: 1, 5, 9, 13, 113, 123, 133, 143, 153, 505, 3800, and then 380* = * is your State and this is for linking of the State only repeaters. Once these have been done you need to make PRIVATE call Numbers, and this is your local Amateur’s and all of the other Amateurs that you want to see their name and Callsign on your display, just remember not all DMR radios have a huge list of contact, and trying to input the WW Database just will not fit, so just add in some and then add as you go along. Make sure you have your GROUP’s Numbers and the Correct time Slot tied together, as the C-Bridge will not pass any Groups outside of the Groups listed above.

So we now can allow Dongle and MiniDV and open spot users to call and connect to all of the VK-DMR Network users, we have expanded our Network for VK-DMR Users and other DMR users in VK to Chat to all of us now. Hytera & Motorola repeaters These systems need to connect to the IPSC2 bridges (xe.vkdmr.net, ra.vkdmr.net) Contact [email protected] for further information. Please use this below information to connect to the VK-DMR+ Master Server with your DMR Device Dongles/openspot/dv4mini etc: Server: he.vkdmr.net Port: 8880 MMDVM etc Server: he.vkdmr.net Port: 55555

Some Configurations setting that need to be set in your DMR Radio, for it to work correctly We have also made TG 13 and TG 505 24/7 connections

All other TG’s are now user ACTIVATED, Key up the repeater you are accessing and you will now Join the TG you have activated for 10 Minutes, from the last PTT on that group

This is to help the VK-DMR Network and stop people trying to talk over or change the TG for the repeater.

Keep this new TG List as you might want to add a few of these new TG’s into your DMR portable or Mobile unit. New Talk Groups (TG) on our VK-DMR Network as follows.

Some information on our VK-DMR TG to the left. TG 113, 123 are user activated and this means you have to switch to this channel and Press your PTT for 1 second and this will switch the repeater you are using into User mode and your mate or other person you was talking to needs to do the same and both of you will be connected and not tie up all other repeaters in the Network. TG 133 connects you to the USA Gateway ONLY, and it is the same for TG 143 to the UK Gateway and 153 to the South Pacific Gateway. 10 Minutes from the last PTT.

VK-DMR Newsletter

Please do not make up any new TG’s as they will not be passed as we set the TG’s in our C-Bridge (Gateway) and in our IPSC2 DMR Plus Server that is passed to the rest of VK-DMR Network and to the World.

Now we have told you in the first part of this newsletter that we have done some LARGE updates and changers to our VK-DMR network, so let me tell you why we have done these changers for VK-DMR Network. We now have TG 4800 linked into TG 505 so DMR Devices that connect to the Internet, and now have a greater DMR footprint for our VK-DMR Network. We can also have MMDVM Repeaters to be connected into our VK-DMR Network via our VK-DMR+ Master server, so if any clubs in VK want to Join the VK-DMR Network we can support your Repeater and have it pass our VK-DMR TG’s to your repeater, and then expand our RF footprint for all DMR Users to use. We as VK-DMR are only DMR Mode, we do not support Multi-Mode operations as other Modes do not have ID Numbers to identify who is the user or person pressing the PTT Button, and does not show up on our Control Panel (IPSC2 Server or DMR+ Master Server)

DMR Dongle Users please make sure your Hotspot is on the Internet Gateway frequencies for your device, as we request you to follow the WIA Guidelines for Internet Connected devices. As most of the VK Amateurs are using any frequency or the default Frequency in there DMR Device that is connected to the Internet, and you might be on the Satellite frequencies or in the Linking part of the Band in 70cm’s, so use the 2 below 439.125 Internet gateways (DMR Radio to DMR Devices) 439.150 Internet gateways (DMR Radio to DMR Devices) 439.200 Digital voice calling frequency (TG 99)

Page 12: VK-DMR Newsletter Issue 8 April 2018 - Groups.io · VK-DMR Newsletter Issue 8 April 2018 1414 Users for VK, and we are ... as the growing number of Amateurs are now looking at DMR

VK-DMR Newsletter Let me start a basic setup, and you should follow this for each Repeater you setup in your DMR Radio., as I hope you understand Groups or Zones as they are the same thing in DMR Make a Group or Zone in your DMR Radio and name it to the Repeater Call sign. If you can add 16 Channels to this Group or Zone. To make this clear as possible TG = Talk Group, TS = Time Slot, Contact = your contact list of users you can enter your self, SCAN = is the Group of channels within the Group you will scan Do not forget to add in you Contact Groups as Groups like TG 13 as Group call 13 Channel Number can be changed to 2RCG (VK2RCG) TG 1, or 5RSF (VK5RSF) TG 1, so you know what TG you are on. Channel 1 of this Group or Zone will be TG 1 WW, Using TS 1, The Repeater RX & TX Frequency Channel 2 of this Group or Zone will be TG 5 Nets, Using TS 2 , The Repeater RX & TX Frequency Channel 3 of this Group or Zone will be TG 8 Loc 1, Using TS 1 , The Repeater RX & TX Frequency Channel 4 of this Group or Zone will be TG 9 Loc 1, Using TS 1 , The Repeater RX & TX Frequency Channel 5 of this Group or Zone will be TG 9 Loc 2, Using TS 2 , The Repeater RX & TX Frequency Channel 6 of this Group or Zone will be TG 13 WWE, Using TS 1 , The Repeater RX & TX Frequency Channel 7 of this Group or Zone will be TG 113 UA, Using TS 1 , The Repeater RX & TX Frequency Channel 8 of this Group or Zone will be TG 123 UA, Using TS 1 , The Repeater RX & TX Frequency Channel 9 of this Group or Zone will be TG 133 USA , Using TS 1 , The Repeater RX & TX Frequency Channel 10 of this Group or Zone will be TG 143 UK, Using TS 1 , The Repeater RX & TX Frequency Channel 11 of this Group or Zone will be TG 153 SP, Using TS 1 , The Repeater RX & TX Frequency Channel 12 of this Group or Zone will be TG 505 VK, Using TS 2 , The Repeater RX & TX Frequency Channel 13 of this Group or Zone will be TG 3800 VK+, Using TS 2 , The Repeater RX & TX Frequency Channel 14 of this Group or Zone will be TG 380x (VK1 to VK9), Using TS 2 , The Repeater RX & TX Frequency TG 380x as X is the State number Channel 15 of this Group or Zone will be TG 99, Using TS 1, 439.200 Simplex (As this is a Digital Simplex Calling Channel. If you wish you can make your own State channel following the above information but use TG 380* =* is the number of the state, but this can be OK for locals chats but TG 505 is the National TG number and should be used if not talking to your local fellow Amateurs in your local area. Just remember to follow the simple rules Only some radios can have 2 time slots in Simplex, this allows 2 groups on 439.200 MHz talking at the same time, one on TS 1 and the other on TS 2 on a Simplex channel, now this is real cool for Digital (2 Time slots in Simplex), but most only have 1 Time slot when using Simplex.
