ATTENTION

Required Actions

When installing this product, be sure to follow the procedure explained in “Section 3 Installation”. Failure to do so could result in damage to the product, fire, or injury.

Before using this product, be sure to read the instruction manuals for the equipment to which it is connected. Specialized knowledge of both equipment and related instrumentation is required to use this product.

Before touching this product, be sure to touch a nearby metal area to discharge any static electricity. Failure to do so could cause this product to be damaged by static electricity that has built up in your body.

Use a delayed circuit protector. Failure to do so could result in the product becoming damaged by the inrush electrical current when the power supply is turned on. The level of inrush current is several times greater than normal input current. (The level of inrush current will differ depending upon the timing when the power supply is turned on, and the impedance of the supply source.)

When performing a mega test (insulation test) on signal transmission cables, be sure to remove the cables from the driver (transducer) and signal conditioner. In addition, be sure to short-circuit the cables before reconnecting them after a mega test to discharge any electrical charge. Connecting cables with an electrical charge to the driver or signal conditioner could result in damage to the product.

Perform the following measures to ensure the stability of the system. - Be sure to install surge killers on the product and related equipment, as well as on the

relays around the signal cables connecting the equipment. - Tighten installation screws to securely fix all units. - Install an interlock function on the system to prevent misoperation in the event of

trouble with the product. If any of the following situations occur, stop using the product and contact the sales office

where it was purchased for assistance. Continuing to use the product in abnormal conditions could result in fire or damage. - When the product emits foul odors - When the product becomes abnormally hot - When the product falls or is dropped - When the product’s case becomes damaged

When storing the product, place it in a location free from direct sunlight. Store it in a location free from high temperature, high humidity, and corrosive gas. - Temperature: −40 to 70°C - Humidity: 10 to 90% RH (no condensation)

ATTENTION

Standard specifications, when measuring range and full range of input LVDT are the same. Satisfy the following when using LS Series LVDT :

2) 4.33 × LVDT sensitivity (mV/mm/V) × Measuring range (mm) ≧1,000

This signal conditioner does not support the zero shift function, so the null point is always the center

position of measurement. Abnormal condition

- When there is an abnormality in the LVDT or signal cable (breaking in LVDT wiring, breaking or short circuit in signal cable).

However, there may be some instances where these conditions will not be detected. -When there is an abnormality in LVDT excitation output (oscillation has stopped).

Burn-down function: The burn-down function is used to reduce output to indicate that the product is not taking measurements. The burn-down function is used in the following situations to reduce output to F.S. –20% (0.8mA DC or 0.2V DC) or lower. When there is an abnormality in the LVDT or signal cable (breaking in LVDT wiring, breaking or short

circuit in signal cable) When there is an abnormality in LVDT excitation output (oscillation has stopped) The delay will be triggered and the burn-down function continued in the following situations. ATTENTION

Section 3 Installation

Installation, wiring, and wire connections should be performed by a qualified technician.

Be sure to install an earth wire. In addition, DO NOT turn on the power before all wiring and wire connection work is complete. Doing so could result in electric shock.

Before touching this product, be sure to touch a nearby metal area connected to ground to discharge any static electricity. Failure to do so could cause this product to be damaged by static electricity that has built up in your body.

Make sure that all wiring has been connected correctly before turning the power on. Failure to do so could result in damage to the product or fire.

Install this product away from motors and relays. In addition, do not install the input and output signal cables near electrical cables or control cables. Noise from motors and relays could adversely affect the product. It is recommended that wiring ducts be kept separate.

When using shielded cable, keep the length of unshielded areas as short as possible. (less than 100mm recommended) Otherwise, the signal may become unstable.

When installation work is complete, be sure to check the installation conditions. Check carefully to make sure the product will not fall and trouble.

Point VM-21G Signal Conditioner socket is abbreviated as “signal conditioner socket”. VM-21H Backplane Unit (sold separately) is abbreviated as “Backplane Unit”.

3.3 Wire connections

Wiring and wire connections should be performed by a qualified technician.

Be sure to install an earth wire. In addition, DO NOT turn on the power before all wiring and wire connection work is complete. Doing so could result in electric shock.

Make wire connections in the following order. 1. Connect the transducer. 2. Connect the output signal receiver. 3. Connect the power supply. 4. Check all connections.

Point Flexible, stranded electrical wire is recommended for wiring. Round, crimped terminals (JIS C 2805, or similar) with good contact and resistant to degradation over time are recommended.

3.3.1 Connecting the transducer

Connect the transducer as explained below. Point It is recommended that you use a 0.75 to 2mm2 3-wire shielded cable

between the signal conditioner socket and junction terminal, or backplane unit and junction terminal.

It is recommended that non-shielded areas be kept to a length of no more than 100mm.

4.2 Correcting the product

Use the following procedure to make corrections.

Point The product has a zero shift function (approx. 25%).

The measurement range of this product is always centered on the null point.

If corrections are completed successfully, the input/output conversion precision indicated in the specifications will be met within approximately 5 minutes after the next time the power supply is turned on. If the product does not operate correctly according to the specifications, contact the sales office where it was purchased for assistance.

1 Turn on the power supply.

2 Move the LVDT core so that the T.P. output becomes 0.00V.

3 Adjust the zero adjustment volume until the output is 3V or 12mA.

4 Move the LVDT core to the 100% position on the measuring range.

5 Adjust the span adjustment volume until the output is 5V or 20mA.

6 Repeat steps 2 through 5 until the I/O conversion precision satisfies the values indicated in the specifications.
