• An organized group that makes laws for the people under it.

is concerned with obtaining materialistic things

• People who do not own property or valuable items.

• An idea that the ownership and production of stuff should be done by the community as a whole and distributed equally to everyone.

• Everyone does their part and then gets an equal part.

as hard as they want and you will get rewards based on how hard you work.

Communism• A system of government

where all property and things of value are owned by the community as a whole.

• Each person works for the central government.

• Each person is given what they need to live.

• Everyone gets an equal share.

• A member of the communist party

Economic• Something that has to do

with the use of money.• Socio-economic means that

your place in SOCIETY is based on how much money you make.

• Economic security means you know you have enough money.

• Economic prosperity means you are making a lot of money.

Marxism

• A system of economic and political thought based around the ideas of Karl Marx

• The idea that there is a class struggle between the poor and the rich.

Class warfare• The struggle between

the different social classes – poor and rich– capitalists and workers

• An idea based in Marxist theory.

The Communist Manifesto

• A book written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.

• It talks about the class struggle.

• It talks about Marxist beliefs.

Equality

• Everyone being treated exactly the same.

• Economic equality means everyone makes the same money.

• Social equality means everyone is equally important.

Centralized Government

• where the power of the government is in the center and departments are created to handle certain problems.

Monarchy• A country where the

person in charge is a king or queen.

• Control of the country is held by 1 single person.

• Monarch means “ruler”

Tsar (pronounced Zar)• Tsar is another word for– King– Monarch– Ruler Tsar is the Russian word

for king

Abdicate

• To give up the right to rule as a king or monarch.

• The king abdicated means the king says he will not longer be king.

• If a king is forced to abdicate it means they MAKE him say he won’t be king anymore.

Industrial• Producing items in

factories. • Industrial jobs are jobs in

factories• There are different kinds of

industry– Steel industry makes steel in

factories– Automobile industry makes

automobiles in factories– Shoe industry makes shoes

• Anything having to do with planting crops or raising livestock.

• Farming

• The Hammer and Sickle is part of communist symbolism.

• It represents the Hammer of industrialization and the Sickle of agriculture.

• Means “friend”• Someone who you

share activities with and are equal to.
