Words 1 – 58th Grade

My grandfather will often quote an old adage to teach a quick lesson.

One of his favorites is, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.”

Adage:(n.) A proverb, wise saying

Toy Story 3 turned out to be this summer’s box office bonanza, bringing

in millions of dollars. 

Bonanza:

(n.) Something very valuable or profitable; a very large

amount; a rich mass of ore in a mine.

Although vocabulary lessons may be boring, there is no reason for the

students to have churlish behavior towards the teacher.

Churlish:

(adj.) lacking politeness or good manners; difficult to deal with; rude

During the Middle Ages, citadels were built to protect towns from enemies.

Citadel:(n.) a fortress that

over looks and protects a city

When the class does group work, the students must collaborate in order for

every one to get a good grade.
