VoiceBox Media’s Monthly Newsletter

People are working tirelessly in the United States and all over the world, oftentimes with limited resources. So limited that the resources they secure often go directly into enabling them to walk out their mission, and there’s nothing left for fundraising and publicity.

That’s why VoiceBox Media connects with humanitarian and nonprofit organizations and says, “Yes, there are people who are working to make a difference, and here’s how they need help, and here’s how you can help them.”

Your passion could be poverty in Detroit, digging wells in Africa, building medical clinics in Haiti. How will you know how to help if you don’t know who to help?

We say, “Look, if education in Kenya is your thing, Wesley and Tarah Korir started the Kenyan Kids Foundation to work on education in Cherangany in Kenya. We just spent four days talking to students who need scholarships, to teachers, and to village leaders and pastors who need your help.”

We say, “Doma International is working on health care in Ethiopia and sex trafficking in Ohio. Here’s an opportunity for them to tell you directly what your support could mean for them, for their neighborhoods, for their families, for their provinces, for their tribes, for their countries.” That’s the mission behind VoiceBox Media. It’s about using the tools we have in storytelling to incite people to humanitarian action.

This is the exciting part. Twitter, Facebook and Youtube offer their own analytics. You may also link your website to google analytics for free as well. Analytics typically shows you different data that pertain between your site and the users who access them. Analytics are just raw numbers, but having an open mind and keen eye for details will let you discover things about your audience you never knew before, like that one user who keeps accessing your website through their Wii U.

Everybody uses social media, wether you are just connecting with friends or trying to grow your online presence, there are some tips and tricks to help you be an all star in the digital realm of media.

What is up with all those dots? You know what I’m talking about! “.@CoolPerson you are cool!” That period in front of a mention has people wondering, but fear not! I know the answer! According to an article by Gary Vaynerchuck, aka wineguy, aka THE social media guru, it’s so when you mention somebody, it shows up in the twitter feeds of your followers! The only way your followers will see a mention is if they follow the person you are mentioning / replying to, otherwise you will have to put a period or reword your

Did you know that facebook is now de-prioritizing third party schedulers on people’s timelines? It’s a bummer, but the company is trying trying to find more ways to keep users inside of Facebook. Instead of scheduling that morning post for tomorrow through hootsuite, just go ahead and schedule within Facebook itself.

Hashtags, hashtags, #hashtags! Like most social media platforms, it’s all about being able to be reached. You have the cute selfies and delicious pictures of foods, but if you’re not #’ing it up, then there’s no way for people to find you. A simple google search on popular and trending hashtags will help your way! For aesthetically pleasing Instagram captions, you may hashtag it up in a comment to yourself, as to avoid sharing a photo defiled by a big blue mess of hashtags.

Timing isn’t a social media platform, but I figured I’d talk about it. This is different for everybody. Find out who your audience is, and figure out the times that they would be accessing social media to read content produced by you. For example, I worked for Yelp San Antonio for almost a year managing their online presence. I found that content was typically engaged around 7 a.m., noon and from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Most people who followed Yelp San Antonio on FB or Twitter belong to a demographic of adults who worked the typical schedule of 8 a.m to 5 p.m. As you can guess, these people were checking Facebook or twitter shortly after waking up / before going to work, on their lunch break and were relatively active right

Mission StatementThe mission of VoiceBox Media is to embed journalists with nongovernmental organizations to tell the story of the men, women and children whose lives are being impacted by those working to alleviate global health, education and poverty crises.

VoiceBox Media is driven by a passion to nurture change in the world. The format to carry out that purpose is to bring information from the nonprofit sector into a mainstream form of media.

In addition, VoiceBox Media provides the opportunity for passionate journalists to partner with world changers and give them a voice. By telling the stories of people who are unable to speak for themselves through words, photos and videos, these journalists will share the work of the NGO/nonprofits and the people they serve.

When a journalist is embedded with your organization, they are there to tell your story, and the story of the people you’re serving. Agencies aren’t chosen based on their religious, political or social ideologies.

For more information on partnering a journalist with your organization, please email [email protected].

What’s in a logo?

By Roy Quismundo

Every organization in the world is represented by a logo of some sort, it’s the branding we use to represent an organization, but what exactly is behind the logo? For our explanation, I turn to former super intern James White. “The background represents an abstract version of Earth, which signifies our mission of raising global awareness of humanatarian issues. The wifi signal coming out of the megaphone represents the organization online media presence.“

James White created the logo that is now being used by VoiceBox Media to represent themselves in every affair imaginable.

By the way, the quiz answers are 1C, 2C, 3C and 4C. If you answered anything besides a C, then you have guess wrong. Let us know on Twitter how you faired in our life-changing mini quiz!
