Five Boats and 399 Men Lost
From the Editor I had hoped to get this issue out just after the Christmas Party on December 7 but I still have not re-ceived the November Base Meeting minutes from the Secretary. I am writing this at the Marriot Re-sort and Spa on Hilton Head Island on Christmas Eve and will send it out as soon as I get back home. This time of year is very hectic for SubVets with Veterans Day and Tolling the Lost Boats, Christmas Parades, Christmas Parties and the like. I am glad to have this time to wind down.
There no meeting minutes in this newsletter.

Members of Charleston Base Support a Brother
When Base member and WWII veteran Stacy Power lost his wife, Elaine, recently members of
Charleston Base attended her funeral and performed the flag folding and presentation. Even though
the Base had disbanded the flag detail over a year ago we were able to grant Stacy’s request.
Elaine had been in the US Navy during the Korean War period and was a very active wife in
Charleston Base functions until her illness took he from us. Below are pictures from the flag folding
and presentation.
Base members Mike Emerson, Rodger Gibson, Theron Irving and George Scharf perform the fag folding. Mike Emerson presents the flag to Stacy Power.

Christmas Parades
This year Charleston Base participated in three Christmas Parades. The first was on Thursday, De-cember 5 at Harleyville, the second Summerville on December 8 and the final parade at Elloree on December 19. We participate in these parades to advertise our organization and to give the public a chance to ac-knowledge or service and the service of our brothers and sisters still serving.

Summerville Parade Sorry, no pictures from Elloree. Maybe next month.

Kap(SS) 4 Kid(SS) Charleston Base has been participating in Kaps for Kids (K4K) for two and one half years. During this time we have visited with 260 children and their families. We've only had one problem during that time; some children did not know what a submarine is. I had to pass out pictures of a subma-rine. We have donated two hand built rocking horses and a certificate of appreciation to McLeod's children's hospital Florence SC. The pictures are from the December visit to McLeod.
