Cover Car _________________________My name is Rick Janzen from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Having moved here from Winkler, Manitoba, I brought my vehicles with me, including this 1952 Chevrolet Styleline. I owned two when I was growing up as a kid in Winnipeg.
This car I purchased back in early 1990, with approx. 74,000 miles on it. Garaged almost all its life, it sat idle 20+ years in a barn until I bought it. The body is pretty well rust free. The brakes needed an overhaul. Seats had been recovered prior to my getting it. The syncros being worn, second to third gear, I replaced the transmission, clutch, pressure-plate, release bearing, and also the rear-end internals about six years ago. It is the base model sedan, with not even an oil filter on it. (Got one years ago, still hanging on a nail in my shop.) A number of accessories have been added on over the years, as I find them at antique shops, flea markets, etc. Dual exhausts was one of the first ones to be added. New floor carpet was installed last fall. Paint is still original except for some sun-bleached paint touch-up on the top of the hood and front fender tops. The car was originally purchased at Community Motors in Winnipeg. It was delivered with a 235 C.I. engine, and 1950 Chevrolet hubcaps! I’m thinking it was a close to a year-end manufacture assembly, accounting for the engine not being the normally installed 216. Apparently only automatic transmission models got the 235 larger engine. When I got it, it would do about 11 miles on a quart of oil. Switching immediately to a low detergent 30W oil, I now can do 1,000 miles without adding. The rings re-seated, and so far, all is original, other than a tappet adjustment. It’s been up to Canada and back, no problems. My goal is to keep the history, and old car smell, in the car. I still enjoy driving it, like the first time, when I bought it, bringing back a lot of food memories of my youth.
P.S. Thanks for the monthly newsletter. I always enjoy getting it.

I am responding to your statement regarding helpful hints are always welcomed by “US” old car owners. I read the “Hubcap Article” and I want to add my cure for that situation of the large hubcaps coming off the wheels. The first few times I drove my ‘53 Chevy after getting it back in 1997, I would lose one of the front hubcaps, but luckily I would be able to retrieve each one. In fact, I lost one on Interstate-95 and could see it later each time I passed by that area. One day, I decided to stop and get it ... A BIG NO-NO! A state trooper pulled up and asked if I was having car trouble and I replied what I was doing. WOW! Didn’t he let me have it ... about endangering my life and that of the other drivers, etc. HE JUST DID NOT GET IT ABOUT THE VALUE OF AN OLD CAR HUBCAP TO US OLD CAR OWNERS and how hard it was to even find one, not to mention the cost of one!
One day in taking my car to my mechanic, he noticed that the front hubcaps were missing. I explained why and he told me to stop by an auto parts store and buy a tube of LIQUID NAILS (see a picture of it included). I used it and for the next 19 years as I owned the car, I never lost another hubcap. I have thanked Tim Gray, the owner/operator of HEADLIGHTS TO TAILPIPES shop many, many times for that tip. The few times the hubcaps came off were to have new tires installed and I was certain to use the Liquid Nails again.
Thanks for reading this and I hope you can share it with others. I also want to thank you for the wonderful newsletter as I can’t wait to get the next one.

Now Showing ________________Hi, My name is Robert B. from Fenton, Missouri. I wanted to send you a couple of pics of my awesome 1954 210 Chevy.
I was looking for a car for two years and could not find one to my liking. I asked my mother if she knew someone selling a classic car. She stated that my aunt used to go to a lot of car shows with her husband. Maybe she knows someone selling one. She called her and found that her husband passed away years back and that she had a classic car for sale. I stopped by my aunt’s house and saw the car. I was really amazed how well she kept the car in great condition. Turns out that her husband built the car from scratch. He found the car shell in a field abandoned and took it home. He restored the car by doing all the metal work, paint, and interior himself. My aunt drove this car and her husband drove his car to car shows. This car has actually won trophies, 1st and 2nd place.
My goal is to enjoy the car and keep it going to as many car shows as I can find.
Sincerely, Robert B.Fenton, Missouri
