Sinabi ni Hidalgo na ang mgatarpolin ay isang uri ng prema-ture campaigning na “wastes fi-nancial and material resourcesthat are better spent for activi-ties that can alleviate the suffer-ings of disaster victims.”

Osang asmaneaterBy Hazel P. Villa, Inquirer Visayas

MIAG-AO, Iloilo—For a change, Rosanna “Os-ang” Roces does not bare flesh. This time, sheeats it, and with gusto, in Wanted: Border—adark comedy by award-winning Ilonggo direc-tor Ray Defante Gibraltar.

The film is one of five competing finalists inthe 2009 Cinema One Originals Digital MovieFestival on Nov. 13-17 at Gateway Cinemas inCubao, Quezon City.

“Luka-lukang project!” exclaimed the irre-pressible former talk show host during an in-terview in an almost rundown house here, thesetting of the full-length film.

The 37-year-old semi-retired actress just hadto say yes—especially after the Ilonggo directorsaid he wanted “bad acting.”

Stumped, Osang had to meet Gibraltar andthat was the birth of this zany, thought-provok-ing and sacrilegious film that was scripted inthe Ilonggo language, Hiligaynon.

Osang plays Mama Saleng, a 60-year-old re-ligious fanatic who owns a boarding house-cum-eatery. In her younger years, Saleng andher grandmother were accused by the towns-folk of being aswangs.

The film takes on many twists and turns, mostly focusing on how Saleng butchers andcooks her boarders. It then segues into an un-expected interpretation of the Bible’s Seven LastWords—with Saleng being nailed to the crossand spewing words that would probably makethe religious want to flog her and the director.
