NATIONAL 313 January 2016

The following are the excerpts from the speech delivered by President U Thein Sein at the opening of the Union Peace Conference, held atMICC-2 in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday. THE indigenous armed organisa-tions have different background histories, different political atti-tudes and different political will. However, they have common de-Agreement (NCA) and political dialogue. Despite not all armed or-ganisations signing the NCA this agreement has been collectively drawn up by the government, the parliament, the Tatmadaw and all dialogue partners. In this junc-ture, it is worth recalling that these post-independence period. So, it is necessary for a political solution. In this function, the discussions should be made representing not only the armed organisations but also the concerned political forces and mass organisations. What’s -to build a democratic federal union. The convening of this Union Peace Conference is an important part of the process of transferring the duties of the incumbent govern-ment to the new one. This is a very important function to transfer the duties of the government system-atically to the new one within the peace process which is extremely subtle. The mutual trust between and among the political forces can be built by this political dialogue. In fact, this conference is just the beginning of smooth transfer of the duties of the government.—Myan-mar News Agency

It is, therefore, re-quired on the part of all citizens to be involved in the peace process, -tion play the most important role in the achievement of peace. Hewent on to say that all the leaders of all organisations are needed to show magnanimity and patience and have mutual understanding

and mutual respect.Next, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing spoke about the Tat-madaw. He said that the Tatmad-aw has laid down the six-point peace policy and has opened its mind to those organisations who have not signed the NCA yet, that efforts need to be exerted to strengthen democracy and to build a modern, developed state. He further stated that indigenous armed organisations are all invit-

ed to join the Tatmadaw.NLD Chairperson Daw Aung San Suu Kyi said that NCA prevalence of union peace, that effort must be put forth for all armed organisations to sign, that it is important for both signato-ries and non-signatories to have differing opinions but uncompro-mising respect, that the national reconciliation process cannot be neglected by the peace process,

that enduring peace cannot be built without achieving national reconciliation, that the collective participation of all national races is more effective than individu-al effort, that only all inclusive participation can reach the goal at a fast rate and that a genuine, democratic federal union can be collectively built only through mutual understanding, mutual trust, mutual love and mutual re-spect.—Myanmar News Agency
