Summer Bible Camp A Week of Fellowship and Fun!

Our Church was alive with the sounds of 37 children [between the ages of 4 and 12] enjoying our first Summer Bible Camp during the week of July 20th to the 24th. The theme for the Bible Camp was “God’s Awesome Creation” and for five days the children had the opportunity to explore this theme in many interesting and fun ways. Through a combination of Bible time, arts and crafts, music, and activities, they explored just how awesome God’s creation is and how they are such a special part of His creation. Each child created their own special bag on Monday and filled it with the beautiful arts and crafts that they made throughout the week.

Each day began with praying together in church and then talking about our special theme for that day. Our daily themes progressed from learning about what God created each day; to what it means for us to be created in God’s image; then, to how well Jesus knows us, loves us, and has a special plan for each of us.

Our field trips helped the children to see and understand so much of what we talked about during the week. On Tuesday, we traveled to the Mystic Aquarium and on Thursday we traveled to the Roger Williams Park Zoo.

The children really loved the music portion of our camp and it was amazing to see how well they sang the three songs that they were introduced to on Monday during our bus ride to the aquarium on Tuesday.

On Friday, the children filled their families and friends hearts with joy as they recited and sang their way through a program that reflected much of what they learned and experienced during their week at Bible Camp. Several of the children even had the chance to use some of their own art and craft creations during the program! Thanks to our incredible staff of volunteers, our campers had a wonderful experience in growing closer to our Lord. We were blessed to have an outstanding group of dedicated counselors for our Bible Camp. They worked tirelessly throughout the week and our lead counselors spent many hours preparing materials for their age groups in the months leading up the camp.

We were also blessed to have the support of our sister organizations in providing lunch for our campers throughout the week. The ARS Ani and Arax chapters provided lunch on Monday, the Ladies' Guild provided lunch on Wednesday, and the Men’s Club hosted a cookout on Friday.

We also had a group of three ladies that graciously prepared and served snacks to our campers. Many people also generously contributed to our Bible Camp and a complete listing of donors will be included in the September issue of the Gantegh.

Our greatest thanks goes to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for blessing our community with such a vibrant group of children and guiding us through our first Summer Bible Camp. We look forward to another wonderful experience next summer.

Sunday School Visitation – rotation visit of the three RI Armenian Churches.

Christmas Pageant – all grade levels.

Easter – learn to make crosses from palms and coloring eggs in the Armenian tradition.

Green Sunday – take home a plant.

Charitable Giving – donate to church, Christmastime giving and contribute to the RI Food Bank.

For students from individual classes: Junior Trustees – serve God by performing trustee functions once a month during The Divine Liturgy.

Help Beautify our church - plant flowers outside church.

Vesting – observe Der Hayr as he prepares himself for The Divine Liturgy.

Pumpkin Carving – carve a pumpkin according to a prayer. Sunday School prepares our students to know and love Christ, live a Christian life and take on the leadership roles they will someday assume in the Church. Mourad Armenian School Hantes Dedicated to the Million and a Half

Holy Martyrs On the evening of May 16, 2015, the students of the Mourad Armenian School dressed in purple shirts with the motto and forget-me-not flower [the logo of the centennial commemoration of the Armenian Genocide], entered Aramian Hall to the school march song, accompanied on the piano by Mr. Raffi Rachdouni.

Assembled on the stage, they sang «Mer Hayrenik», the

school song and recited the Lord's Prayer and the Prayer of Wisdom led by Archpriest Gomidas Baghsarian. Mr. Hagop Khatcadourian, School Committee Chairman, greeted the audience and gave an overview of H.H. Aram I Catholicos' Encyclical. He enumerated the many events in which the local community, including our Armenian school students, participated in commemorating the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.

The newly formed pre-school youngsters started the program by singing two songs -- one using rhythm band instruments «The Wooden Horse» and the other with hand and bodily gestures «The Five Ducks». They ended their performance with a lively armenian folk dance.

The primary grades and the ASL Class performed three songs: «School Bells», «Hoy Nazan», and «Armenian Song». The audience showed their appreciation of the young children's efforts with enthusiastic applause.

The first portion of the program ended with Mrs. Anahid Kibarian's message. She quoted the part of Vehapar's Encyclical that pertained to Armenian Schools «...that Armenian students learn the true spirit and message of the centenary of the Armenian Genocide».

Mrs. Kibarian thanked all the individuals and organizations who support our school in various ways. Special appreciation was extended to Der Gomidas Baghsarian, our Pastor, and to Der Kapriel Nazarian, our Assistant Pastor. Since his ordination in October 2014, Der Kapriel has joined us each Saturday. He is with us for our Opening Prayers , and presents a mini lesson about the the feast day to be celebrated that week.

Finally Digin Kibarian called two of our graduates who will be attending college this September, Anoush Calikyan and George Donoyan to the podium to receive the Maggie Nalbandian - Mourad Armenian School College Bound Scholarship Award established by Dr. And Mrs. Ara & Betty Sadaniantz. They were lauded not only for outstanding grades but for their community service as well. Anoush sang solos in several of our school programs and George was an aide for two years after graduation from our school.

The second part of the program was devoted to the theme of the year - The Armenian Genocide. The hours of practice that included definitions of unfamiliar words and the history of the armenian provinces mentioned in the recitaion and the six songs , all proved to be time well spent. The students were eager to learn and did so quickly.

The result was a presentation that had the audience giving the youngsters a resounding round of applause.

The Hantes ended with a message by Der Gomidas who praised the principal, staff, chidren and parents for making the extra effort to attend Armenian school. He encouraged the children to learn the golden letters of our alphabet. He ended the program with a benediction. A happy and inspired audience enjoyed light refreshments provided by the mothers of our school.
