OUT OF MY MIND Tim Hughes, Senior Minister

Our congregational study starting on September 7 will be based on the book entitled Life on Mission by Tim Harlow. Tim Harlow is the past president of the North American Christian Convention which was held in Indianapolis this summer.

At Cornerstone we are “Following Jesus and Showing Others the Way.” If we evaluate how our life stacks up to what we say we’re doing many of us would say that we are doing a good job of the “Following Jesus” part, but not so good at “Showing Others the Way” part. This book will encourage, challenge, and guide us in that area of our lives.

In this study there is the Life on Mission book, a Study Guide and a DVD with six lessons for our Home Groups. I will also be preaching sermons on six consecutive Sunday mornings that will complement this study. This entire series is based on the Great Commission given to all Christians by Jesus Christ himself.

We know we’re going to heaven but there are other precious people in

our lives that we want to go to heaven with us. This book could not only change your life but also the life and eternity of others who do not know Jesus yet.

If you are not in a Home Group please sign up on the tear-off on Sunday morning. If you are already in a Home Group please have someone from your group pick up the DVD lesson series. You can sign up for a book and study guide on the tear-off to get the special deal of $10. They are $18 if you buy them separately.

Join in with the 50 people have signed up to memorize Jeremiah 17:5-8 by August 24. New International Version (NIV)

This is what the Lord says:

“Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Don't forget to visit our Media & Music page on the CCC website. If you have heard some new music on Sunday mornings that you’ve enjoyed or have found especially uplifting or motivating, you can find those songs under the “The Songs We Play” tab. We’ve recently added some new worship songs to our Sunday morning repertoire, including songs from artists/song writers we have never used before such as The Citizens, North Point Live, All Sons & Daughters, and Phil Wickham.

Regular Youth Group September 7, 14, and 28, 6-8pm Our regular youth group is back and we hope you will come and join us! This is a great time to fellowship with your fellow Christians and bring your friends if they are interested in checking out what this Jesus thing is all about. Enter the church at door #8 in the back. Youth Group Parents Night September 7, 6-8pm Hey Parents, if you’ve ever wondered what it is we do at youth group this is your chance to check it out with all the other parents. This is our second annual parent’s night and we hope that you’ll join us for a fun and informative evening. If your child has never been to youth group this might be the night to make them come. Canoe Trip, September 13, 10am-5pm Come canoe or kayak on Sugar Creak. Canoes cost $20 but hold two people so you get to split the cost. If you want to Kayak it cost $16. To register and attend you’ll need to do the following things by September 1: Sign up at the sign up board and mark whether or not you want a canoe or kayak (you can also send an email to [email protected] with the same info); Turn in your Cornerstone Form with insurance card if you haven’t done that this year; Turn in your Sugar Valley Canoe Form, and turn in your $10 or $16. Youth Group Bring a friend night September 14, 6-8pm We will be having several of these a year. Bring a Friend Night is the night where we really encourage you to bring your friends. You’re welcome to bring your friends any time, but on these nights we will run things a little differently so that new people can feel more welcome. What’s different? There will be some free food at the snack bar, we wont be having small group time, and there will be some other changes to help new people feel a little more welcome. 2014 August-December Calendar is Here! Parents and Students in order to help you plan better we have released our 2014 calendar. You can pick one up in the youth room or you can download one off the church website in the youth section under “Upcoming Events.”

Upward Soccer Cornerstone Christian Church has a great ministry that we do for the community of Brownsburg and the surrounding towns. The Upward Soccer league here at Cornerstone provides an instructional soccer league that is family friendly and FUN! The league is centered around Christ and biblical teachings as the students learn about the game of soccer. Hundreds of people are here on Monday nights to practice and even more are here to attend our games on Saturday mornings. We teach a biblical virtue at each practice and at halftimes of every game we have a devotion. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to get in on an essential Cornerstone ministry. I would like for you to see how you might get involved. Do a 2-3 minute devotion at halftime. I have a devotion book that you can use or you can use one of your choosing. Games are at 9 and 10 am on Saturdays, so the devotions would be at 9:30 and 10:30 am. We need referees for our games too. We keep the rules very simple. If you have a soccer background this might be a great place to volunteer. The fields get lined every Friday. If you like being outdoors and want to get some walking in, we’d love to have you help out! It takes time to set up on a Saturday morning for games. If you are an early morning riser and want to help set up the fields or the shed then let Ben know. Every year we are in search of coaches. Think about maybe coaching next year for Upward Soccer.

Almost Fall Festival Sunday, September 21 will be another great time to celebrate as a church family. We will have many activities to do for the entire family. Be sure to invite your neighbors and friends to take part in this family fun event. We will need volunteers to help with the inflatables and games. Please contact Ben if you are able to help out.

Save the Date We will be holding a fund raiser for Camp Allendale on Sunday, November 16 at Wheels of Wonder skating rink in Avon. All the proceeds will go toward Camp Allendale’s “Unless” campaign that will help increase capacity at the camp. So save the date and look for details as we help to support Camp Allendale.

Community Life

The Wednesday Morning Women’s Bible Study begins again on September 17 at 10 am. We will be studying the book of John using N.T. Wright For Everyone Bible Study Guide book. Wright says, “A good writer will put in all kinds of detail, nothing is there by accident. Nothing in John’s Gospel is there by accident either. All the details in John are designed to come together. In these studies we discover the clues John gives that we might see even more clearly the reality of who Jesus is, the new creation he inaugurates and the difference that all makes.” You are invited to join us. The books are $7, payable at the first session. Please sign up on the back of the tear-off sheet.
