DDr. Steven Vold has been listed in the Consumers Research Council of America's Guide to Top Ophthalmologists consecutively since 2002. Patients travel internationally and from across the United States to Northwest Arkansas for him to personally perform their surgeries. Given his leadership and reputation in the ophthalmic field, Dr. Vold has been among the first surgeons in the country and for the state of Arkansas to launch numerous laser vision correction procedures and technologies. Professional baseball player and former Arkansas Razorback, Luke Bonfield, now sees better than 20/20 after receiving Laser Vision Correction.

Luke shared that he was completely dependent on glasses from the age of twelve. “Contacts and glasses were always a regular part of my game day, from little league to now. When I played for the Razorbacks, I would haveto change out my contacts at least three to four times a game day due to dirt and dust causing them to dry out. In fact, when we were playing at the College World Series, I ran out of contacts.” As Bonfield began to prepare for an opportunity in the major leagues, he knew having great vision was key. Safety and precision were his highest priorities, so that is when Luke turned to the official eye care provider ofthe Arkansas Razorbacks, Vold Vision. “For major league baseball players, it is really important to not just get to 20/20 vision but to get 20/15 or 20/10 vision,” Dr. Vold said. “The neat thing is with our technology here, we can get them to that.” After the procedure, Luke is now charting out with 20/15 vision. Before Luke’s professional career, he attended the IMG academy for sports. He was drafted to the New York Mets right out of high school but Bonfield stated that he wanted to pursue his college career. After this decision, he became an Arkansas Razorback. During his time as a Razorback, he attended the College World Series twice and became the first player to hit a home run at the 2018 series.

Is LASIK safe?

Results of clinical studies indicate that the chance of having a vision-reducing complication is less than 1%. Studies also have suggested that LASIK ishave suggested that LASIK issafer than wearing contact lenses long term. By scientificand clinical standards, LASIK isamong the safest elective procedures available. However,as with any surgery, laser vision corcorrection involves a degree of risk. Our doctors give patients the information regarding those risks and answer any questions that theymay have.

When can I drive and resume normal activities?

Does it hurt?

Because the cornea is numbed with a topical drop, patientsreport feeling light pressure and little to no discomfort during the pduring the procedure. Somepatients experience a gritty,scratchy sensation and sensitivity to light for 24-48hours with LASIK/SMILE, or3-4 days with LASEK (lightsensitivity may continue forsome pasome patients for 4-6 weeks or more). We ask everyone to go home and take a nap immediately after the procedure.For any discomfort that remainsafterwards, Advil or Tylenol is usually sufficient.
