Being a teenager, it is a trend to make a New Years resolution with our friends on the New Years Eve with our glasses raised to toast the upcoming year. Every year we make these promises with an honest heart, and most of us forget about them within a few weeks. I made the resolution to make this magazine happen (and not to forget about it). When I first came up with this idea, I was not sure if I would be able to pull it off. But, with the help of some dedicated and talented individuals, it is finally here in front of you. It has been ti-tled as MISHMASH A little of everything, with the purpose to serve you with material on varied topics.

This edition is the first of the many to come. I would like to thank everyone who has sup-ported, encouraged and helped me to make this happen. I hope many more of you will join me as we move forward.

Continue ahead and dive into the interesting and amazing world of MISHMASH.

  • AizawlThe City Among Clouds

As the plane descends leaving the blanket of clouds behind, you are greeted by a vast expanse of green mountains with clouds swirl-ing around them like mist. Nestled among these mountains of the North-East, is one of the most remote places in India; the city of Aizawl.

    MISHMASH 1 BON VOYAGE

  • If youre looking to spend a few days at a place that is away from it all, this is a place

    worth visiting.

Set over the ridges of steep hills, it is at an approximate height of 1100 meters above sea level. In 1871, the British had established an outpost in this region, which later became the Aizawl village, and eventually became the city that it is today. The mountains are formed of sedimentary rocks, which suggest that the whole of the area must have been submerged under the sea a long time ago. Flanked on the north by the craggy peaks of Durtlang, the hill city overlooks the valley of the river Tlawng and ranges of blue hills beyond. Being the cap-ital city, most of the important government offices of the state are located here. Aizawl has a mild, pleasant weather all year round, though it gets rainy during the second half of the year.

The houses here are mostly made of timber, support-ed by stilts on steep slopes, while the bigger buildings are of concrete. An interesting feature of the building style here is that the multi-storied buildings and houses have their floors built one below the other, instead of the usual high rise system. So a building that appears to have just 2 floors from the outside, may actually have 6 more floors below. There is an acute shortage of water in the state, so all the households use water harvesting methods to collect rain water. The streets are lined with shops and filled with Maruti 800s and a variety of bikes.

People here have a special liking for motorcycles. Even a person living in a single room house would be owning an expensive motorcycle. Despite the great number of vehicles, the traffic here has a sense of orderliness and patience that is less seen in India. Children can often be seen playing on the less busy roads, along with the occasional small sized dog trotting around. There is a small military area in Thuampui, where along with the living quarters and offices, a canteen and a helipad are also situated. A service is run by Pawan Hans once a week, wherein for a fee, you can go for an aerial tour of the city in a helicopter.

With a resident population of almost 3 lacs, it is the largest city in the state. Mizos from various tribes make up the majority of the population. Aizawl has a diver-sified culture with influences from all religions like Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam. But Christianity is the one which has the strongest influence on the natives. The Christian community regularly visits the church on Sundays. While English and Hindi are understood by some, Mizo is the main language here, due to which you can often have trouble communicating with the locals and shopkeepers. The people here are quite friendly and hospitable. They mostly run shops or are engaged in the local industries.

It can be well observed here that the males and females have an equal status in the society. The shops are mostly run by the women. Many work in handlooms, where shawls are produced and used locally. The people here follow the system of community living, where they work together and help each other whenever needed. This ensures efficient functioning and harmony in the society. The streets are cleaned and maintained by those living in the locality only. Youll notice that there are no beggars here. In fact, there are almost none in the entire state. If a person is in need of clothes, food, money or anything else, the local people would gather resources and help him out. The people here eat mostly non veg-etarian, and consume chicken, beef, mutton, fish and various other animals that can be found locally. Pork is a much liked item here, and many of the people breed pigs in their houses. However, do not expect the food here to tickle your taste buds, since the people prefer their food plain boiled. But if you do feel like eating out-side, there are a few food joints in the market area where you can get a bite.

Tourism is a major source of income here. The place has plenty of attractions, such as the Mizoram State Museum, Solomons Temple, and the Khuangchera Puk caves. Various festivals like Chapchar kut and Pawl kut are hosted in the city and celebrated with much enthusi-asm. The Cheraw, is a popular and unique dance form famous in Mizoram, in which a grid is formed on the ground using bamboo staves, inside which the females

dance, while the males move the staves in rhythmic beats. Hence, it is also known as the Bamboo Dance. The rich green land is home to an equally rich wildlife, and many unique birds and animals can be found here. The Khawnglung Wildlife Sanctuary is situated about 170 kilometers from the city. Then of course there are the various picnic spots, where you can enjoy the sce-nic beauty of the hills. There is also a three star hotel, The Regency where you can spend the night in com-fort after a day out. The main shopping areas are the Bara Bazaar, which is a labyrinth of streets lined with shops selling clothes and imports from China, and the Millennium Centre, which is a local shopping mall. The market closes down by 6 in the evening, so it is better to go there early. When seen from a distance at night, the innumerable lights of the city spread over the hills create an amazing view, which resembles that of a star filled sky.

Aizawl is definitely one of the most beautiful hill sta-tions in the country. It is a green city among the clouds. If youre looking to spend a few days at a place that is away from it all, where you can explore and experience the beauty of nature, this is a place worth visiting.

  • The Regera- A New EraThe name Regera translates, to reign. And it is rightly so, because it is the most insane hypercar ever built by Koenigsegg, or by any other company for that matter.

In the pursuit of shedding weight and make their cars go faster, manufacturers strip them off of all unnecessary stuff like radio and electric seats. The Regera takes a different approach. It provides all sorts of luxurious features, from a 6-way adjustable carbon memory seats to a 9.1 inch infotainment system. In-stead, they decided to remove the transmission.

We managed to take a heavy, expensive lump out of the equation (the transmission), without sacrificing the ability of the combustion engine to provide drive to the rear wheels, told Christian Von Koenigsegg in an interview. Instead of the engine being attached to a normal transmission, it uses something called the Koenigsegg Direct Drive System. Koenigseggs proven 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 sits proudly in the middle of an entirely reworked chasis, pumping out a healthy 1100 bhp alone, direct to the rear wheels. Then there are three electric motors, one on each of the rear wheels,

and one on the crankshaft. Coupled with the 700 bhp produced by the electric motors, the car churns out a staggering 1800 bhp of power. In order to deliver all that power to the road, while keeping the car on the ground, the body has been designed with marvellous aerody-namics; notice the massive side scoops, the front diffuser arrangement and sleek body work.

The car is initially pushed by the rear electric motors alone, thus eliminating the need for lower gears, after which the crank-mounted motor kicks in. And then finally once the car reaches around 50 kmph, the

petrol engine joins in. All this advanced black magic al-lows the car to go from 0-100 kmph in 2.7 seconds, and from 0-400 kmph in under 20 seconds, using a single gear. Let those numbers swirl around in your mind for a while.

Feel like buying one for yourself? The price of the base model is $1,890,000 (which is almost 12 crore In-dian Rupees). Even more astounding is the fact that the company has already sold four models, before anyone even saw the car.

  • The tech giant has released its latest in the series of its laptops, which is called just the Macbook. The company has yet again pushed the boundaries of inno-vation and produced a unique and commendable piece of equipment.

Lets first talk about the outside. The body is much thinner than its previous model at just 13.1 mm, and also lighter, weighing a mere 2 pounds. It gets a Retina display, packing 3.7 million pixels in a 12 inch screen, which has been built into something that is as thin as a file folder. The full size keyboard has been re-vamped to a new butterfly mechanism, and each key gets its own led light. Perhaps the biggest advancement is the new Force Touch Trackpad. This trackpad has the ability to sense how much pressure is applied on its surface, and tell the difference between a light tap and a deep press, thus eliminating the need for having any

physical buttons for clicking. Youll notice that there are no ports of any kind on the device. Instead, it has a sin-gle USB-C port that allows everything from charging, sending videos, transferring data etc.Under the hood, the laptop gets Intels Core M proces-sor, which has been placed on the most dense and small-est circuit board made by Apple. It also has customised batteries that have been placed in a layered style to max-imise every millimetre of space. All of this has been en-closed in a sleek, all aluminium brushed metal body. The new Macbook certainly has features that are cool and new. But the negation of certain features, such as the absence of the widely used USB ports, can be a big let-down for many.

Public urination is an issue faced worldwide. The sight and stench of urine that suddenly en-ters your nose when walking down a walk-way is quite annoy-ing. And the problem is even worse in our home country of In-dia. Warning signs and fines for those who get caught in the act has done little to curb the problem. However, it appears that the resi-dents of Hamburg, Germany, have found a way to tackle this. And it is quite unique.

Hamburg is famous for its night life, and after drowning their sorrows in alcohol, the people pee where

ever they find a nook out-side. Greatly annoyed by this, a local group of peo-ple sought to fight back. Their weapon of choice: Hydrophobic paint. They located some sites that were frequently turned into impromptu urinals, and painted the walls with the special paint. The re-sult is that whenever a per-

son would pee on the wall, it would bounce right back at the pee-er, in what must be one of the fastest iterations of karmic justice ever seen. It may not be a very efficient solution since the paint is very expensive, but it is cer-tainly one of the most innovative uses for hydrophobic coatings.

  • Its a Wave! Its a Particle! ItsbothLight behaves both as a wave and a particle at the same time. Einstein taught us that, and weve been following him ever since. There has, however, been no actual experimental evidence found to validate this statement. Until now.

A team of scientists at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland managed to take the first ever photo of a beam of light showing its wave-particle duality. It was no easy task: You need light to photograph objects, but how do you photograph light itself? The team made use of an ultrafast advanced electron microscope, one of only two on the planet, and were able to generate a quantum photograph of light ex-hibiting wave and particle behaviour simultaneously.

The bottom part of the image shows the particle nature, while the upper part shows the wave nature of light.

What Lovely Colours You HaveChameleons are well known for their ability to blend into the surroundings or display vibrant colours. But how accomplished this trick has remained a mystery till now.Scientists used to think that they changed their colour by controlling pigment containing organelles. But it turns out that these critters actually use more physics than biology to pull off their magic trick. Researchers have published a new study in Nature Communications, explaining that chameleons change their colour by re-arranging a set of tiny crystals fo`und just under the reptiles skin. They do this by stretching or relaxing its skin. This movement changes the shape of the nanocrys-tal lattice present in the skin and reflect different wave-lengths of light, hence changing the colours that we see. The researchers found another layer of skin much deep-er which reflects near infrared light, which they believe is used by the animals to stay cool in hot conditions.

REQUIREMENTS: 1) Torn Jeans 2) A pair of scissors.3) Fevicol 4) A shoe box or any other rectangular box. 5) Cardboard pieces.6) White paper

Take the shoe box and with the help of fevicol cover the whole box and its lid with White paper.

Next, you take the pair of scissors and cut out the part of jeans having back pockets, in a single piece. Take that part and wrap it over the lid of the box in a manner that the pockets come over the top of the lid, as shown in the picture.

Now that you are left with the legs of the jeans, cut out four long and medium broad strips and using the fevicol, stick it over the edges of the box from its open side to keep the edges intact.

Now with the leftover jeans, cut out thin and long strips from it and start sticking it at the sides of the box as you can see in the picture. Now, keep the box at one side and let it dry.

When the box is dry, take the cardboard pieces and stick it inside the box as per your wish on how many partitions you wanna make. If you see the image, youll get to know how to do.Tadaaa

    MISHMASH 1 STORY

Aah! I still remember how close I was to her. We were *The Best Friends*. Starting from class L.K.G., having the same person as your best friend for ten years is astonishing. We cried, laughed, sang, danced, bunked, shopped and did almost everything together. But this story is not about how great our friendship was, rather how flabbergasting she used to be. Flabbergasting! Big word huh? It perfectly describes her.

Always high on energy, over-excited, frank and candid. No matter what situation, whether the annoying morning assem-blies or boring history class-es, annual Functions dance rehearsals or our daily lunch-time gossips, she knew how to live each moment of the day. Playing pranks in the class, telling PJs and laugh-ing on herself, acting hilariously, having sleepovers and parties for no reasons and all other crazy stuff, was almost a daily rou-tine. What her everyday-schedule missed was studying. She was famous for her dance and art and music and NOT STUDYING! I cant even remember how many times she was punished for not doing her homework and scoring poor in exams. Despite this, somehow she still managed to be a teachers pet. So easily she could flatter anyone with her captivating smile. Silly and sensible, cute and clever she was. A package anyone would love to have around.

Life is bound with changes isnt it? The news that she was moving to a new place excited her. Little did she know that her life was go-ing to change. Time flies and memories are the only pieces left with you. I wish I had a remote to rewind and pause those moments,

to be able to re live them. Because its been six years since she moved there, and all she speaks now is silence. It was Saturday afternoon. I visited her to bid farewell. Only eight hours were left for her flight to take off when she re-ceived that call. Little did she know that her life was going to change.

    Standing in a circle,Looking all around,No corners I lost,No corners I found.

I had everything,Under my circle possessed,Everything a happy man could think of,Always comes to an end.

But a thought so dire,Came to my mind,My circle grew in closer,Strangling my life.

This Circle my kingdom,And I am its hero,But a circle around you,Always makes a zero.

I had no love,Or no one to love,My heart turned sun,My insides burned.

  • Every moment we spent together,Has touched our lives, our souls forever.

The thing that we shared and learned,Is permanent growth that we have earned.

The changes that I see,And what I have learned about me,Are a response to how we affected our lives,And what we discover in each others eyes.

We are connected on such a deep level,That no one can separate us, not even the devil. Our feelings might be different a few months from now,But you are a part of me forever somehow.

I will love you forever,For worse or for better.

    APP - XENDER

Xender is an android application for sharing files with other mobile users. And its really good.

Developed by ANMOBI Inc. the app is available both on the play store and the app store. The ap-plication lets you quickly send apps, pictures, notes, videos or any other type of file of any size to another phone, with the only restriction being the amount of storage available on the receivers phone. Both need to have Xender installed and

functioning for the transfer to take place. The special thing about Xender is that it

does not require any cellular con-nection or Bluetooth to work. Just click a button and it creates a Wi-Fi hotspot on the senders phone and the transfer of data takes place through it, allowing quite high

    transfer speeds of around 4Mbps.

For sending files you need to create a group after opening the app. Once the group is created, that can consist of 1 to 5 people, the host need only to drop the files into the group and all those connected to the group will receive the files simultane-ously. Since it doesnt disable any cellular network you can download and distribute files simultaneously, except obviously the file being downloaded.

Xender also supports cross plat-forming for the woes suffered by android and iOS users. It comes with a special iPhone but-ton that allows you to share files between Android and Apple phones.

Xender has a nice user friendly interface with bright white and green colors. It not only helps in easier transfers of data but also provides sorting and organization of files in categories based on file extensions,

and also provides a view of your cur-rent transfers. All files are displayed along with the storage space they con-sume and a send button next to them. The app also tracks your recent transfer history. The settings in the app pro-vide various options such as clearing records, changing default storage, and shake to send a feature similar to shake to shuffle, but as the name sug-gests only to send files.

Oh, and do try the Slide feature for photo sharing. Its really cool.
