Pattanayak, Director ASBM, has and will
continue to bring many laurels for the nation. She
further hoped that the students and faculty
members of this institute will bring glory
throughout the world by adhering to their duty,
responsibility and quality education.
In his welcome address, Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet
Pattanayak, Director of ASBM, while walking
through the memory lane said that on 9th February
2006, the foundation stone of ASBM was laid down
and true initiation became a reality within a short
span of 180 days. His Excellency Shri Bhairon
Singh Sekhawat, the Hon'ble Vice President of
India inaugurated the Institute in the year 2006
and within 10 years the institute has been able to
place itself in the global map. ASBM is the only
institute in Odisha and 9th in the country to have
two international accreditations.The Vice-Chancellor, Utkal Universaty,
Prof. Asoka Kumar Das, joined the event
as Guest of Honour, and said that ASBM
has established its reputation by
providing quality management education.
He also emphasized on working together
for sustainable development and growth.
Giving the example of the ASBM's logo
of a flying bird, he said while spreading
wings for personal development, the
young management students should not
forget their duty and obligation towards
the environment and society. He further
explained the tenets of excellence and
appreciated the efforts of ASBM in
rewriting the mantra of excellence.

The Hon'ble Governor of Jharkhand, Her Excellency Smt. Droupadi Murmu, gave away prizes to all
the winners. Prof. Kalyan Shankar Ray, Dean ASBM, proposed the formal vote of thanks. The
programme was anchored by Ms. Abhilasa Pratihary, Student of ASBM. The programme was
attended by Shri Gadadhar Upadhyaya, former CMD, NALCO and ASBM Associate Chairman along
with other dignitaries and professors and students from various parts of the country.

Incidentally, 2016 has been an eventful year for ASBM.
The school is celebrating the 10th anniversary this
year. It is worthwhile to mention that ASBM has been
conferred global accreditation ACBSP (Accreditation
Council for Business Schools and Programs), USA as
well. In addition Prof. Biswajeet Pattanayak, Founder &
Director of ASBM, has been conferred with
prestigious International Teaching Excellence Award
for 2016 by ACBSP, USA. He is the only Asian to
receive this award in 2016. Further ASBM has been re-
accredited by the highest accreditation agency in Govt.
of India – the National Board of Accreditation,
Ministry of HRD this year.
In the national best b-school survey of Business India,
December, 2016, there are only two business schools
from Odisha – XIMB and ASBM among the top 51
schools in the country which in itself is a noteworthy
achievement.

December 2016. In his Welcome address Prof.

said this is a platform to beget next level business

mind can feathers a lot of ingenious ideas.

Guest of Eminence, Prof. Kamal Kanta Mishra, Vice Chancellor, Utkal University of Culture said
that 65 percent of the population of India constitute young mass and they are the future of this
country. He urged students to ablaze the world with their psyche. Addition Guest of Eminence,
Prof. Siba Prasad Adhikary, Vice-Chancellor, FM University said that he has been witnessing the
augmentation and growth of Indians for past 25 year and believes India is a young blossoming
country with young people and has a sparkling future.
The programme was attended by Former CMD, NALCO and Associate Chairman, ASBM Board of
Governor Shri G Upadhayaya. He praised Prof. Biswajeet Pattanayak for visualizing and creating
such innovative platform for the youth to showcase their talent. He urged students to work with
sincerity, honesty and dedication.
This two day long National Talent Festival; Ignite and Markfest was marked by 14 competitions
viz. Ramp Show, Rangoli, Kaun Banega Baazigar, The hands of symphony, T-Sharts painting, Counter
strike, Mono-acting, Voice of Ignite, Danza, Corporate Chanakya, Live Bazaar, Treasure Hunt,
Rock Show and Face Painting. Students from various parts of the country actively participated in
the event. The Live Bazzar, show case of marketing ideas was the centre of attraction. 'Markfest –
Simulated Business Model Contest' and various other activities along with 'Live Concert
'electrified the minds of students. At the end, rock band performed and enthralled the crowd by
playing memorable songs and the quality of entertainment created a public sphere. The valedictory
session vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Prakash Chandra Dash, Coordinator of the event.

FELICITATION TO Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak
he Annual Business Plan conference of Canara Bank was organized on 21.04.2017 at Goa. All
top officials of the bank attended the conference. Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak, TManagement Guru and Director of Asian School of Business Management, was invited as
the Chief Speaker and delivered his address on modern management and organizational leadership.
The inspiring speech of Dr. Pattanayak was admired by all the top management of the Bank.
On this occasion, Dr. Biswajeet Pattanayak was felicitated by Shri Rakesh Sharma, CEO and
Managing Director of Canara Bank in the presence of the Executive Directors, Shri Harideesh
Kumar, Shri Dinabandhu Mohapatra and Ms. P. V. Bharathi, and all other top management executives
of the Bank.
It may be mentioned here that Prof. Pattanayak has to his credit 24 books and 84 research papers
on management and related subjects. He was conferred with the International Teaching
Excellence Award by Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programmmes (ACBSP), USA in
2016, as one of the ten best management teachers of the world and the only one from Asia.

To take a walk down the corridors of nostalgia, an Alumni Meet of ASBM, CONFLUENCE 2016, was rdinaugurated by the Director of ASBM, Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak on 3 December, 2016. The
meet started traditionally with lighting the lamp of wisdom by the Director of ASBM, Prof.
Biswajeet Pattanayak. He was joined by the first group of faculty members who have been part of
ASBM since 2006, and the students of the first batch 2006-08. The occasion was graced by Alumni
in large number ranging across various batches from various parts of the country. Speaking on the
occasion, the director underlined and praised the achievements of Alumni of ASBM in all spheres of
life within a short span of 10 years. He gave a vivid description about the evolution of the Institute.
He felt that it was a matter of great pride for ASBM that its Alumni are holding positions of high
responsibility. He praised their contribution towards the growth of their Alma Mater and
emphasized the need for further strengthening the linkage between the Alumni and ASBM and
current students.

The Inaugural session was followed by cultural programme by the present students and alumni.
Great bonhomie was observed everywhere with old students reliving their old memories with their
batch mates, seniors and juniors. The current students also got the opportunity to interact with
their seniors and gain much knowledge from them.
On the eve of Alumni Meet, a Blood Donation Camp named as 'Joy of Giving' was organised in the
campus where students, staff and members of faculty donated blood as a gesture of responsibility
and contribution to the society. A total of 50 blood units were collected and the donors were given
'certificates of appreciation'.
A new Alumni body with Mr. B. Santosh Kumar of 2006-08 Batch as Coordinator and Mr. Ajay Kumar
Nanda of 2007-09 Batch as Co-Coordinator took over the responsibilities for the next year.

National Unity Day & Vigilance Awareness Week 2016 at ASBM 31st October, 2016
ASBM celebrated and observed the National Unity Day
& Vigilance Awareness week on 31.10.2016 with the
theme 'Public Participation in promoting integrity and
eradicating corruption' in its premises. On this
occasion, students, faculty members, and all the staff
members took pledge of unity. In his motivational
speech Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak, the Director
of ASBM, addressed the students explaining them the
individual roles and responsibilities towards a vigilant
society. He laid stress on the strong work ethics and
said that the identity of a person is his attitude. He
further said that the contribution of Sardar
Vallabhbhai Patel is unparallel. The oath-taking
ceremony was led by Prof. Manmath Nath Samantaray,
Chairman PG Council. It was followed by screening of an
interesting video prepared by AICTE. The content of
the video was well-appreciated as it talked about role
of unity and integrity and our responsibility towards a
vigilant society. The seven day long Vigilance
Awareness week at ASBM witnessed several seminars,
debate & Quiz Competitions, awareness programme on
eradication of corruption and a lot more
sensitization programs. As a part of this
observation, two safe drinking water
containers were distributed in the
Ashram Vidyalaya of Dalua village near
chandaka, led by ASBM IPS principal,
Prof . Mrutyunjay Dash. Whi le
addressing the students of the school
Prof. Sipra Karmakar said about the joy
of giving and the principal of the school
laid stress about the importance of safe
drinking water for healthy living. At the
end of this inaugural Programme, all the
students, faculty members and staffs
took part in “Run for unity” event in the
campus. The programme concluded with
an assurance by everybody present to be
a part of vigilant India.

ASBM organized 6th National Management
Colloquium – HR on 22nd October 2016 in its
premises. The colloquium was organized on the
theme “Renew HR: Thought to Reality” with sub-
theme “Multi-generational and cultural diversity”
and “Redefining Loyalty and commitment”
The colloquium was inaugurated by Dr. Prasanna
Kumar Patsani, Hon'ble MP, Bhubaneswar as chief
guest of the occasion by “lighting the lamp of
wisdom”. In his speech he urged all the audience
about the art of being organized. In this era of
uncertainty, effective human resources
management is becoming a challenge to society. Old
is always gold. So the pace of development should
not be in alienation to our age old practices.
Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak, Director ASBM
and Chairman of the Colloquium said in his welcome
address, while introducing the theme that the HR
needs to be realigned to next generation (Gen Y).

This flexibility and readiness to new environment has changed the concept of loyalty. The concept of
organizational loyalty has changed to professional loyalty and contract to psychological contract. Today
more strategic component is enabling change. More and more young generation are instilling the process
of innovation by their creativity. So the motivational factor has also changed from giving inspiration to
ignite innovation.
Dr. Ashok Kumar Sahu, Former Executive Director-HR, NALCO and Director, Learning and
Development Global graced the occasion as Guest of Eminence. In his deliberation, he emphasized on
unlimited potential of human resources. He said you must manage yourself with awareness, desire,
inspire and action. He redefines human resources manager as 'human response manager'. He also said
that purpose has to be pursued as it is far ahead of just profit.
There were two technical session on the sub-theme “Multi-Generational and Cultural Diversity” and
“Redefining Loyalty and Commitment”. The speaker in the technical sessions were Dr. P. K. Rath, Deputy
Chief, Deputy Labour Commissioner (Central), Odisha, Mr. Devdutta Sarma, Head-HR, Satyam Venture
Engineering Services, Mr. Aashish Kumar Mishra, Vice President & Head-HR, Indian Metals and Ferro
Alloys Ltd, Mr. A.N. Verma, GM-HR, National Thermal Power Corporation, Mrs. Swayam Prava Mohanty,
OAS(S), Deputy Secretary, Panchayati Raj Department, Govt. of Odisha, Mr. Paritosh Mishra, Vice
President-HR, AEC and Head-HR, OPGC who debated and oriented the students with a lot of useful
information on Human Resources Management.
The guests were introduced by Prof. Bhakta Bandhu Dash, coordinator of the colloquium and Vote of
thanks was proposed by Prof. Sibananda Mishra, Co-coordinator of the colloquium. The inaugural session
was anchored by student of ASBM Ms. Abhilasha Pratihary and was attended by academician, research
scholars, corporate executives and students in large number.

Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad. While introducing the
theme of the Camp, Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak, Director,
ASBM shared how an innovative idea is more important than money to
be an entrepreneur. He named five 'I's - intention, inspiration,
initiative, ideas and innovation - as essential features for a
successful entrepreneur.
Guest of Eminence of the occasion Mrs. Jayashree Mohanty,
President of Luminous Infoways Pvt. Ltd. laid emphasis on the role of
technology and communication in entrepreneurial venture. She
presented a beautiful picture of evolution of entrepreneurship in the
historical context with Indian values.
Shri Srijat Mishra, Managing Director & CEO, Kalinga Soft, Guest of
Eminence explained the key points of entrepreneurship. He stressed on
concepts like creativity, perseverance and resourcefulness as prime
requirement for an entrepreneur.

The event witnessed participation of more than 200 students from various B-schools. The mentorship
partners of the event were Sakrobotix Lab, JYODIV Technology. Knowledge Partners were CTTC,
Bhubaneswar, National Innovation Foundation – India, MSME, Women Entrepreneurship &
Empowerment and Lemon School of Entrepreneurship. This programme was sponsored by Bisleri and
Luminous Infoways. Odisha Live joined the event as the media partner. Introduction of the guest was
given by Prof. Saikat Gochhait, Coordinator, EDC and Dr. Sadanand Meher, Faculty, ASBM proposed a
vote of thanks.
The inaugural was followed by several interactive sessions and workshops targeting innovations in
entrepreneurial venture. The workshops and discussions were attended by subject experts and eminent
entrepreneurs like Shri. Tushar Garg, Senior Fellow - Business Development & Dr. Vivek Kumar, Sr.
Innovation Officer of National Innovation Foundation, Dr. S.K.KAR, of Central Tool Room & Training

11th FOUNDATION DAY OF ASBM
thThe 11 Foundation Day "Astitwa" of ASBM was celebrated
with the gracious presence of the Vice Chancellor,
Ravenshaw University, Dr. Prakash Chandra Sarangi. In his
Foundation Day lecture, Dr. Sarangi compared the education
scenario in olden days with that of now and went on to talk
about the process of acquiring knowledge. He further said
that with the advent of technological
breakthrough knowledge is not confined
to printed paper or book. He impressed
the young audience saying “Today's
society is knowledge society, knowledge
economy and we are all knowledge
worker”. He urged for a collaborative
democratic development by developing a
skill of learning to learn. He further said
that local culture needs to be
accommodated with the technology and
access to e-resources should be widened.
In the name of advancement we have to
control nature considerably but we have
to decide how much is enough. So he
advised to develop a skill of learning to
learn to make a striking balance between
nature and technology.
Ms. Kriti Dev, a senior PGDM student,
introduced the guest and proposed the
vote of thanks.

ASBM Celebrated 70th Independence Day
with great patriotic fervor. On this
auspicious occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet
Pattanayak hoisted the National Flag.
Addressing the students, members of faculty
and staffs, he said that we are all part of this
great nation so it is our duty to contribute
substantially for its development. India has
witness a tremendous growth and has the
capacity to lead the world. India still is a
young democracy with largest population.
This vast pool of population is required to
channelize their energy in a fashion that they
become an asset to the nation.

ASBM FLAGS OFF ITS 11th BATCHThe inauguration ceremony for the new batch of
students of PGDM and BBA respectively was
graced by Shri Jyoti Ghosh, Managing Director,
State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur in the Central
Auditorium of ASBM Campus.
Addressing the new batch, Shri Ghosh emphasized
that the leadership qualities in the public and
private organizations are common in many ways.

The most important qualities of a leader are trust, integrity and hard work. It is essential to
challenge self and take risks to influence the followers in the corporate world.
Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak, Director ASBM, in his
welcome address, advised the students to develop specific
competencies like self discipline, empathy and persuasion.
These three qualities will help them to be star performers.
He stated that this generation should try to cure the
diseases of the civilization – civilization should be judged
not by how they treat people closest to power but rather
how they treat those farthest from power, whether in
race, religion, gender, wealth or class.
Shri Ravi D. Verma, Managing Director, Black Knight
India Solutions Ltd, Guest of Eminence of the occasion
advised the students to strive hard and work with a
high level of integrity. He also urged the students to
face challenges in life as challenges ensure growth.
Shri M. Ramakrishna, Managing Director, GrowthMode
Consulting Ltd., another Guest of Eminence, elaborated
on his experiences on how ASBM has been contributing
in making industry ready leaders.
ASBM Journal of Management (Vol. IX, Issue 2, July-December 2016) was released by the Chief
Guest Shri Jyoti Ghosh. Prof. Kalyan Shankar Ray, Dean ASBM, administered the Oath to the new
students to imbibe the ASBM culture of discipline and to make the environment humane.

The senior students organized 'Akanksha', the
welcome ceremony for freshers. The gala
event was attended by all the new and old
students, all teaching and non-teaching staff
members. A number of icebreaking activities
and management games were conducted for
the new batch of students. The activities were
aimed at acclimatizing the students into the
new environment and getting them to know
about the institute, its faculty members and department heads. The new students underwent a
two-week induction programme focusing on academic orientation and also work life balancing. Many
corporate leaders addressed them in the induction programme. A focused session on stress
management was conducted by Sister Leena of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vidyalaya.

The tenth Convocation of Asian School of Business st
Management took place in its campus on 1 April, 2017.
The graduating ceremony of 2015-17 PGDM batch
saw students being awarded the coveted diploma.
Founder and Chairman of Datamatics Group of
Companies, Dr. Lalit S. Kanodia graced the special
occasion as Chief Guest. In his convocation address
he stated that education, and in particular business

education, holds the key to India once again becoming a developed economy. He lamented that
businessmen do not get due recognition in our country for wealth creation. As an example, he said
that Bharat Ratna has been awarded to 45 eminent persons till now, and out of them only one, i.e. J.
R. D. Tata is a businessmen.
Mr. Siddharth Shankar Mishra, student of PGDM 2015-17 batch was awarded the Infinity Gold
Medal as the best student in academics, while Ms. Neelam Nanda, student of PGDM 2015-17 batch,
was awarded the Director's Gold Medal (sponsored by State Bank of India) as the best all-rounder
student.
The Chairman of P G Council Prof. Manmath Nath Samantaray coordinated the programme. It was
anchored by students Ankita Parida and Sumana Bose.

MULTIVARIATE DATA ANALYSIS
Asian School of Business Management, a premiere institute in management education, research
and development, organized a two-day long Faculty Development Programme on “Multivariate Data
Analysis” from 27th January 2017 to 28th January 2017. The event witnessed participation by
Faculty members, research scholars and social scientists from different regions of India as well as
from foreign countries.
Chief Guest on the Occasion, Prof. Akshaya Kumar Mishra, Director, Institute of Mathematics &
Application, Bhubaneswar said that a pure mathematician is taking mathematics from society.
Converting one idea to another idea is transformation. Multivariate data analysis is also a
transformation whose every function can be superimpositions of wave. It is prime function of a
researcher is to undergo a difficult path, to make the path of others simple. Something challenging
is always beautiful.
Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak, Founder & Director ASBM commented on the need to boost up
the interest in research. Problem identification, orientation to ask why, research mindset,
innovation and Inquisitiveness should come up. We need certain methods to interpret, analyze and
compare statements to achieve the core objectives He further said that Ph. D is the beginning of
research because a good teacher is also a good researcher.

said that research scholars of the new generation are conducting the research by compulsion or
by situational demand . So research scholars can excel in the future if they have a serious desire or
an interest while doing a research. There is a necessity of creating research climate in each
educational institution .He has also said that, the root cause of each research lies in the answers
of what ,why and how questions.

lecture before the ASBM students at the Institute campus on th17 July, 2017.
Mr. Singh presented an insight on the recent dynamic changes
taken place in the world of finance with a particular references
to US economy. He highlighted the emergence of Investment
Banking services and other technology enabled banking services.
He also focused on some dark patches of the recent history
referring to the sub-prime crisis and the world wide depression.
However, the sea change in the worldwide banking services in last
25 years never went unnoticed in his address. He was very
specific on the most significant contributions made by the
advancement of information technology and its applications in
the banking services thereon.

(Marketing Area) has co-authored a book on
Retail Management with Cengage Publication.
It is designed to serve as a textbook for a
course in retail marketing. The aim of the book
is to present retailing practices in India covering
all aspects of undergraduate and postgraduate
curricula of commerce and management. The book
will also be of substantial benefit to doctoral students.
The book covers topics related to complete retailing process in
India including the new dimensions of retailing such as online
retailing. The book also provides a wide range of real-life

The Achievers' Day of ASBM Institute of Professional Studies
'SCINTILLA – 2017' was held in ASBM on 10th February 2017.

said that after the completion of management course, creating
their own venture should be the priority of every student. The
