This morning I sat with two men and a lady. We had a wonderful conversation that was all about our Lord and Savior. In the circle of believers, several denominations were represented. As I listened, I didn’t agree with everything that was expressed, but there was definitely a kindred spirit present.

In 2 Timothy 2:23-24, we are told not to have anything to do with foolish or stupid arguments because they produce quarrels. The Lord’s serv-ant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, and not be resentful.

I listened to the testimony of a beautiful lady who obviously was a Godly woman. Each of those at the table came from various backgrounds and certainly had different opinions of what the Bible

T h e Pa st o r ’s D e s k says about various topics. It was an oppor-tunity not to argue, but instead, it was a beautiful time of sharing what God had personally done in each of our lives.

We live in a day and time that demands, as Christ followers, we agree on the basics (salvation thru the lord Jesus Christ) and then stand together against the wiles of the devil. All around us, we are bombarded with ungodly talk and horrible news. Guess what? We have good news to share, and more than ever before, we need to speak up for our Lord Jesus Christ.

Love y’all,

Bro. Hollas

God loves a cheerful giver and praying children. Because of happy hearts and generous givers at ASBC, God’s children gave $2,338 to support mission endeavors in our home state of Texas. Thank you all for praying and giving to the Mary Hill Missions Offering.

As we approach the Christmas Season, we re-member the Greatest Gift of all: JESUS! With a heart of love and compassion for all nations, He left His home in Glory and came to earth. He gave His life freely so that all people could be-come sons and daughters of the living God.

December 2-9 has been designated as a week for Southern Baptists to pray for International Missionaries and God’s work through them. It is also a time to prayerfully consider the gift you can give Jesus on His birthday.

Perhaps you would like to give:

$10 to purchase a Bible in a local language

$25 to disciple and train a national believer

$26 for gardening tools and seeds

As you pray, remember to give Jesus your first gift this Christmas.

It’s that time of year again! It is hunting season and time to think about Thanksgiving dinner. When Brandon was a teen-ager, he looked forward to coming to Yoakum to go deer hunt-ing. On Thanksgiving morning, he would be up very early so he could be out hunting “at the crack of dawn”. It could be 32° and overcast, but he was ready to go. He would be back in time to eat turkey and 7-Layer Salad at his Aunt Carolyn’s. He really didn’t develop his taste for Seven Layer Salad until after his teenage years!

Thanksgiving has more tradition in our family than Christmas. In fact, the menu for our Thanksgiving lunch is written on a small piece of paper on Carolyn’s refrigerator. It stays there year-round. A week or two before it is time to prepare the meal, we look at the menu and remind everyone of their as-signed menu item - in case someone has forgotten. There will be plenty of leftovers for the evening meal!

The family tradition of Thanksgiving began with my parents. We did not get to come home for Thanksgiving the first few years we were married because Bob had to work on the Fri-day after Thanksgiving. After my mother had a stroke the day after Thanksgiving in 1965, the traditional meal moved to Car-

F ro m t he Ed i tor - Thanksg iv ing olyn’s house with Tilford making the best turkey and dressing you would ever want to eat! He passed away at Thanksgiving in 2013 so his daughter Ann has taken over the cooking of the turkey and dressing.

We need to stop daily to give thanks to God for all He has given us - not just on Thanksgiving Day. We may not have everything we want, but we need to be thankful for what we have. When we give someone a gift or do someone a favor, we want to be thanked so why shouldn’t God want to hear a “thank you” from us? We should not expect it is His job to bless us without a thank you in return.

In a devotional by Howard Vanderwell, he brought out that we should be thankful in all circumstances. God holds us in His hands and helps us endure the strain when things are going against us. When things are going good, we tend to overlook God’s good gifts to us each day. Sit still and think about what God has given you and who He has placed in your life. Be thankful.

“No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

November Business Meeting - The November business meeting was held on November 7th with Hollas Hoffman as moderator. The October business meeting minutes were approved as printed and the October financial report was reviewed by Garlan Weber. He noted that the contributions were down. For accounting purposes, the memorials will be transferred to the Building Fund. Vicky Cliffe gave a brief report on the Fall Festival. As Sunday School Director, she again is asking for Sunday School teachers. Wanda Kaiser, In-Reach-Outreach Ministry Team Leader, reported that she and several others had written 30 notes. They had planned to make visits before the Fall Festival. She and Margie Shin-dler had made small loaves of Pumpkin and Banana Bread for the visitation, but due to circumstances preventing the visitation night, the loaves of bread were donated to the Cake Walk at the Fall Festival. Nelda Hoffman, Missions Ministry Team Leader, made a motion that the goal for the annual Lottie Moon Christmas Offering be set at $5,000. Lisa Harris reported for the Youth Committee. The youth will be collect-ing items for the Food Pantry between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The collection table will be located in the hall by the Fellowship Hall. The youth have a “Make & Bake Cook-ies” event on Saturday, December 1st. The cookies will be delivered to the nursing homes. That night they will have a Game Night in the Fellowship Hall. Roberta Bittick, Chairman of the Kitchen Committee, said there will be a New Year’s Eve Game Night beginning at 8 p.m. until ???. Everyone is to bring their favorite snacks. Garlan Weber presented the Pro-posed 2019 Budget explaining changes from the 2018 budg-et.

T h e M ai l B ox Dear Church Family,

For the wonderful Pastor Appreciation Day you gave us, we send thanks from grateful hearts. You are the most kind, lov-ing and generous church family! We thank God for placing each of you in our lives.

May God bless each of you from His storehouse of riches.

Bro. Hollas and Nelda

With Special Thanks to all of you,

It’s hard to believe it has already been a month since my heart surgery. I thank God every day for my fast healing and lack of pain. The diagnosis and surgery came on us so fast we really didn’t have time to think about it until it was over. Your caring warmth and prayers have helped carry us through and for that we will be eternally grateful.

Also, I would like to thank you for the prayers and all you have done for my brother, Ed Bennett, during his time of need. God tells us to love one another and what a blessing that is.

Jolene White

Thank you for your prayers during this sorrowful time.

Love in Christ,

Rae Johnson Family

Thank you all for your prayers and words of encouragement! These are so important at all times, but especially in times of distress and struggle. Yes, God is an awesome God and He reigns, comforts, heals and cares for us at all times!

May God bless you all.

Fields of Faith - On Wednesday, October 10th, Lisa Harris and several of our youth attended the Yoakum Fields of Faith. Fields of Faith is a student-led event. Students invite, pray for, share with, and challenge their peers to read the Bible and fol-low Jesus Christ. An athletic field provides a neutral rally point where a community can come together. Since 1954, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) has been challenging coaches and athletes at all levels to

use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ. Fields of Faith is a ministry outreach of the FCA.. The Yoakum High School FCA sponsor is Tim Blake-ney. They meet twice a month. If you are interested in join-ing, please contact Mr. Blakeney .

Rocky Creek Corn Maze is located outside of Moulton. This was the setting for the fall outing on October 27th. We started with a few students but quickly add-ed more as the night went on. There were 2 different big corn mazes with one being at night. There were mini mazes, slides,

hayrides, barrel train rides, tether ball, rat rollers, duck races, corn cannons, frog hopper, and a petting zoo. We had chicken salad sandwiches, chips, dips, cheese balls, apple juice, water and ice cream.

Making Tamales - On November 1st, Travis Wagner came to teach our class on what he calls Bohemian Tamales. He was an excel-lent teacher and had tremendous patience as we learned to mix masa, spread on the husks, and roll properly. We enjoyed the day so much that we ended up making approxi-mately 50 dozen tamales. As a reward, each person was took home some tamales. We also shared some of the tamales Sunday

night after church. They were very good! As a youth fundraiser, we will be making tamales again and selling them - mild, spicy, and bean & cheese at $10 per dozen. Watch for the announce-ment!

Stuff the Shoeboxes - On Sat-urday, November 3rd, 5 children arrived to help make Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. We went to the Dollar Tree in Victoria to buy all the supplies and then to lunch at Chick-fil-A. After re-turning to the church, we assem-bled 7 shoeboxes. Seeing that a

shoebox filled with small items was all that a child would re-ceive for Christmas really made the children how lucky they are. Each child put a personal note and a picture of them-selves in their boxes.

O pe rati o n Ch r i st m a s Ch i ld There were 79 (55 from ASBC and 24 from Providence Christian Academy) Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes delivered to the GBA. As these shoeboxes are delivered to children in various parts of the world, we need to pray that they will come to know Christ as their Lord and Savior. Thanks go to Judy Leist and Lisa Harris for organizing this mission project for 2018.

5th Quarter -The youth committee, along with several youth and 2 coaches, came to-gether for a 5th quarter fellowship. Food, fun and Bunco was the lineup for this long lost function. A short devotional was given by Coach Arkadie. Thank you for sharing your favorite Bible passage! We enjoyed BBQ sandwiches, chips, dips, brownies and Rice Krispy treats.

The best way to appreciate your job is to imagine yourself without it!

Pastor Appreciation Day - October 21st - Once a year we are reminded to take time to honor our pastor with Pastor Appreciation Day. The Kitchen Commit-tee provided a Fried Chicken Lunch on this special day to honor our pastor, Hollas Hoffman, and his lovely wife, Nelda. If you were not here that day, it is never too late to write them a note of appreciation for their ministry here at ASBC.

Fall Festival - ASBC’s second Fall Festival on October 28th was a big success. There were approximately 100+ in attendance. There was something for everyone - numerous games for the kids, Face Painting, Horse Shoe Tournament, Cake Walk, Guess the Pumpkin’s Weight. There was lots of candy and lots of food. If you cooked, help set up, cleaned up, worked in a booth, brought food, decorated or just came

and brought your family - thank you so much! This is a won-derful outreach for the community.
