Kind regards Angela Buxton Participation With nearly 20 years experience in education as a classroom teacher, a physical education teacher and now a school leader, I still get goose bumps when I see our kids ‘having a go’ at things that they feel uncomfortable doing! This can range from taking the plunge in social situations and starting a conversation with someone they don’t know, to trying a new sporting activity or even having a go at something new and challenging in class! Last week I observed our Grade 3 and 5 students participate in NAPLAN. This can be a very stressful time! However all our students par- ticipated in the NAPLAN tests to their best. Our EQ program teaches our kids to be ‘Their Best’ not ‘The Best.’ I encourage parents to reflect on their child’s performance in whatever they do and look for them to improve on their performance more so than to prove to you how good they are. As a parent of two girls at Guthrie St, I am proud when they do well, but more so if they have a go and try their best as I know they will be improving. No School - Friday 10 th June – Curriculum Day and Monday 13 th June – Queen’s Birthday There is no school for children on Friday 10 th June. This is a report-writing day for our teachers. The Outside School Hours Care program will op- erate on this day between 8:00am to 6:00pm. We look forward to sharing this morning with the grandparents and parents of our school community. Division Cross Country Following strong performances at inter-school level Guthrie Street had 16 cross country runners participate in the Zone Cross Country last week. Eleisha Lee (3 rd ), Max Clohesy (4 th ), Aloung Akwal (9 th ), Eliza Bicknell (9 th ), Daisy Warbuton (11 th ) and Elly Jeffery (13 th ) excelled at this event in their respective age groups and will now com- pete at the Region Cross Country Championships in Broadford on Wednesday 15 th June. Shepparton High School is delighted to announce the continuation of the scholarship program for the Year 7’s in the 2017 school year. SHS provides a stimulating learning environment in which students gain opportunities to thrive academically and in other fields of endeavour includ-ing leadership, sports, the arts, science, and music.

SHS Scholarships include: General Excellence Scholarship - Scholarship includes a 16 gig ipad mini & case and pay-ment of their School Fees Music Scholarship – Includes weekly individual instrumental tuition, at no charge; free hire of music instruments for the purposes of practise and lessons, for the year. In addition, Scholarship recipients have the opportunity to join training bands and attend camps and tours throughout the year

Grades Three and Four Echuca excursion forms have been sent home. Please ensure that the permission slips are returned to classroom teachers as soon as possible. Just a reminder to check students are not

wearing nail polish and jewellery to school. As

well as this socks and hair ties need to be ei-

ther black or white to match our Guthrie

Street’s school uniform policy.

Grades Five and Six All placement forms for secondary school next year must be returned by Friday. All Reedy Swamp forms must be brought in by tomorrow morning before school or the student will remain at school. All Bendigo forms need to be returned.

The cost for the Bendigo Excursion is $45.

Grade Prep Letter/Sound: Bb Word: be, but Numeracy Focus: Counting, number work, assess-ment and revision. Please name your child’s jumper so if it is mis-placed it can returned to its owner. Our Big Write this week is all about the language experience of ‘bubbles’. The children are going to blow bubbles and then write about it. Don’t forget to talk about this experience with your child. rd May 9:15-10:45 is Grandparent’s Day

at Guthrie Street. So come along and participate in your grand child’s learning in their classroom after assembly. Parents and carers are welcome to!

Grade One Big Write: The Big Write this week is an Information Report on ‘Cats’. Students will be writing facts about cats under the headings ‘Description’, ‘Sound’, ‘Babies’, ‘Diet’, ‘Group’ and ‘What they do?’. Look out for Talk Homework on Wednesday night. Spelling: Words beginning with fl- and fr- Maths: Basic Facts: We are working on solving addition and subtrac-tion number facts to 10. Number: We are working on solving addition and subtraction problems using tens frames. Measurement: We are working on measuring the length of objects using informal units (i.e. paper clips, glue sticks, blocks).
