On February 16, 2008, we had our Inter-School Championship. I was glad to see everyone work very hard that day. It was very important to me to see everyone receive a trophy. Everyone should be proud of his or her accomplishment I was excited when I broke my boards because I worked very very hard preparing. A lot of energy was expelled from our bodies during chicken fighting. Free-fighting and Korean wrestling were the hardest. I was never good at free-fighting or Korean wrestling, but I learned from my mistakes and improved. Some of us may feel that we should have done better, but everyone was a winner. Trying your best is what is really important. Nam’s schools worked hard preparing us and also preparing for this event. NMAC’s championships, regular testing, and attending class help make you a lot more confident and physically fit. A Message from GRANDMASTER TAEK HO NAM

Breaking is the non-violent method used to demonstrate state-of-mind, body, and spirit as one. It is a fusion of mental power that enables Martial Artists to break impenetrable surfaces with their body parts.

Breaking incorporates concentration, accuracy, speed, coordination, confidence, physical power, and most of all, internal power. All of these

elements of training makes the Martial Artist’s body a weapon of self-defense. Can you imagine your hand going through a brick breaking it to pieces? Can you imagine it going through a stack of those bricks? Maybe, you think this is an impossible accomplishment. I assure you, it is not. But, you may argue that your hand is softer and less dense than a brick. Of course it is; but, is it not your thought that propels your hand? It is your thought that moves you throughout your life. You will enable yourself to break not only bricks, but also, the harder barriers that may be blocking happiness and fulfillment in your life.

TANG SOO!

March PTF Testingby Billy H

Most of Nam’s Korean Karate students from Cecil, Robinson, and Mt. Lebanon campuses gathered at the Robinson campus for promotional testing on Saturday, March 29th, 2008.

Children started their testing at 9:00 a.m. Adults commenced their testing at 10:00 a.m. It was the second testing in the year 2008 with family and friends watching.

Although many students seemed to be nervous, everyone did a great job on their hyungs, breaking,

and other requirements. Students will find out shortly whether they passed or not.

January PTF Testingby Mary Jo F

On January 19, 2008, we had our first testing of the year. Everyone worked very hard and did a great job. We were all testing for a new Gup or Dan. It’s always fun to watch while everyone performs their breaks, forms, and all the other techniques they’ve worked so hard to learn.

My wish for everyone is that 2008 will be an even better year for training and having fun with all the exciting events to come. Learning all of our new techniques is fun and exciting. It is also difficult at times, but there is always someone to help you if you need it. This is our Tang Soo Do Family and I’m proud to be a part of it.
