On Earth Day (April 22) last year, students

at St. Joseph Catholic School

in Josephville planted sunflower, pumpkin

and watermelon seeds, as well as the lily

plants from the church altar at Easter.

Having also received a donation of tomato

plants from a parishioner, the garden is

flourishing and the students are enjoying

eating the tomatoes at lunch!

Sunflowers are in full bloom right now, and,

looking ahead, the students are excited about

harvesting pumpkins in the fall!

Meanwhile, at Valle Catholic School, the younger students are

discovering caterpillars that will develop into beautiful Monarch butterflies in

the Valle Catholic Schools’ Butterfly Garden, which is a certified and regis-

tered Monarch Waystation designed to attract the declining populations of

Monarchs and other pollinators.

A variety of Missouri wildflowers, milkweed, zinnias and bulbs, many donat-

ed, and others bought with funds granted from the

Master Gardeners, fill the area, which also serves

as an outdoor classroom.

The plants are thriving from

frequent rains, as well as

water collected from the

roof of a nearby shed.

Around the Archdiocese...

We pray for the repose

of the souls of the faithful

departed, and especially

those in our school and

parishes communities.

May their souls, and all the

souls of the faithful

departed, through the mercy

of God, rest in peace.

Amen

We pray for those who are

sick, hospitalized, lonely and

in need of our prayers, and

for their caregivers.

May God bless them!

Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic

School celebrated their first all-school Mass of

the school year focusing on the Fruits of the Holy

Spirit.

SMM Pastor, Father Jack Siefert, reminded the

children in his homily that just as fruit is good for our

body, the fruits of the Holy Spirit are good for our

hearts and souls.

“Today we placed an apple, our symbol for JOY, on

our tree, and remember that Joy is recognizing that

true happiness comes not from money or possessions,

but from knowing and following Christ Jesus,” a school representative reported.

“Each month the students will focus on a different fruit of the Holy Spirit in hopes

that, by the end of the year, our hearts will be filled with joy, gentleness, kindness,

generosity, goodness, faithfulness, patience,

self-control and peace.

Our tree will remain in the lobby of the school

to be a visual reminder of how we will grow.”

On Thursday evening, August 18, 2016

Valle Catholic School students,

parents, guests, teachers and administrators

welcomed in the new school year with the tradi-

tional Rock the Block event.

Ste. Genevieve pastor, Monsignor Dennis

Stehly (pictured at right with “Juggling Jeff”) opened the evening with a

prayer, and welcomed everyone.

From there, the Valle Student Council Moderator, Tim Baskin took over and in-

troduced "Juggling Jeff,” who performed amazing feats to the delight of all!
