Student Ministry News

Summer 2014 is now upon us and we already have several big events lined up on our calendar. Before I get into the details of our summer activi-ties I want to say congratulations to the graduates for this year. We are proud of you and your accomplishments and pray that you will continue to grow in Christ wherever he may lead you. We will recognize our graduates on Sun-day, June 1st during the worship service. I have mailed a letter with details on our 2014 Summer Schedule. If

you did not receive this letter please let me know and I will get one to you. I also have Com-munity Changers forms available in the parsonage and the church office for those that will be participating.

The first event on our calendar for this summer is VBS the week of June 16-20. This year we will have a youth class available for you. This year we will be looking at the Faith Commander study. All students, grades 7-12 are invited to be a part of this class. Make sure you come for this week, we always plan some spur of the moment activities during the week. We had a great time last year and I am looking forward to seeing you there this year. Community Changers will be the week of June 22-27. The cost for the week is $50 per a student. If you are not familiar with Community Changers this is our missions emphasis week. We partner with the student group from Faith to do several community service projects. Our purpose for the week is to share the love of Christ in our community by meeting physical needs. We will again be hosting Community Changers this year. Each student will need to fill out some forms which are available in the parsonage and the church office.

There are several areas where we need adults to help with this week ranging from lead-ing a project to an overnight chaperone to helping serve our meals. If you have any time dur-ing the week and you would like to help us please let me know. We also need some sponsors that will help with the cost of the projects. If you would like to personally or through your business sponsor Community Changers please let me know and I will get you all the details.

For our second event this summer we are planning an overnight trip to Atlanta where we will attend an Atlanta Braves game and visit 6 Flags theme park. We will leave on Friday, July 18th and return on Saturday, June 19th. The cost for this trip is $75 and space is limited. You will need to turn in a $25deposit to reserve your spot. We will have some other special events during the summer but you will have to come on Wednesday nights to find out the de-tails. In Christ, John Harmon

Community Changers 2014 June 22-27

Community Changers is a joint effort between the Student Ministries of Swansea First Baptist Church, Faith Baptist Church, and Sardis Baptist Church. Students and adult leaders partner together to do service projects around our community. We do Community Changers so that we can share the love of Christ through acts of service. This year our projects will include: Harvest Hope Food Bank, Flowers for Bibles, Home Repairs, GPS, Gleaning, and several other projects. The service projects are only part of the week. When we are finished with our work each day we take some time to play. We have all sorts of games going on during our down time. We take time to worship together each night. We always eat well at Commu-nity Changers, and a big thank you goes to everyone that helps with the meals. We want to thank you for your support both financially and through your prayers. We are proud to host Community Changers in our church facility. If you are interested in helping with Community Changers please let John Harmon know. We look forward to a great week this year at Community Changers.

Summer! Lots of fun stuff to do, places to go. I am excited that Vacation Bible School is coming up!! Community Changes!! The beach!! Cookouts!! Camp-ing!!, July 4th!! WOW. As you make plans for your summer, please remember to ensure safety at all times. Along with summer comes some not so good things too, like sunburns, tick bites and mosquitoes. So get your summer buckets ready and throw in some of the following items: Sunscreen, sunglasses, wide brim hat, sandals/flip flops, insect repellant (be sure to read labels), bottled water, wet wipes (hand washing), books and flexibility so that you can relax and enjoy sum-mer. Also, check out local clubs such as the YMCA for summer programs for the kids. Let me encourage you to enroll your child in swimming lessons if needed. Attend a car seat check to be sure your little ones are buckled up and to be sure that your child safety seat has not expired. With the kids out of school, the grocery list will increase! Remember to stock up on lots of fresh fruits and veggies. It is amazing how kids will eat this stuff up fast it is available. So, fill them up on good stuff. Also be sure to fill them with the One who promises in His word that if we drink from His cup, we will never thirst again, be sure to enroll your kids in Vacation Bible School this sum-mer. Be safe and have a great summer.

Weight Watchers Weight Watchers continues to meet every Tuesday night at 7pm at Swansea First Baptist Church. New members may join at any time, cost is $98 for 10weeks. Simple Start or Points Plus. Great success stories each week.

Free Health Screening Lexington Medical Center will hold a free health screening at SFBC Tuesday, June 24th. Labs include Lipid Profile, Glucose and Blood Pressure Screening. Call today to schedule your appointment—803-568-5404. Until next time, Laura Jumper, Parish Nurse

Family Outing

The Children’s Committee invites all church mem-bers to an outing at the Big Mo Drive-In Theater in Monetta, S.C. on Friday, August 1st. Meet at the

Gates open at 7:00 and the movies (a double feature) start at dusk (about 8:45) The cost is $8 per adult (age 12 ad older) and $4 for children ages 4-11. There is no cost for children under the age of 4. The drive-in entrance only accepts cash. Meredith Moments Hannah is a senior and I wonder where the time has gone…I know, I know, I

am preaching to the choir! I am still amazed at how fast time goes by. Hannah has

been a wonderful child and I have no complaints and feel truly blessed. God has

done a work in Hannah. I wish I could take credit for the result. However, our

church family has been equally instrumental in our raising of Hannah. I am thankful

to the teachers, who are wonderful Christian examples that Hannah has had in our

public school system like Becky Zeigler, Melanie Burns, and Diane Goodwin, who

have lovingly shaped Hannah’s life into the young lady she is today. I can remember

Mrs. Billie, Mrs. Dale, Mrs. Ann, Mrs. Patsy, Mrs. Margaret, Mrs. Pat and many more

(but just to name a few) all taking time to comfort, talk, and care for Hannah. Memo-

ries like that seem like yesterday, but I know they are years past. I want our church

to know that I appreciate the quality of the years you have invested in Hannah. John,

I believe we are lucky to have a Youth Pastor who has the heart for God, heart for the

lost, and a heart for service…one who willingly cares for our young people giving

them correction when correction is needed, direction when direction is needed, and

love when love is needed. Thanks for be a lighthouse for Hannah. Of course, I could

not leave out our Pastor Terry in this equation. Terry has been a mainstay in Han-

nah’s life. Hannah, like many of you, LOVES Terry. I cannot tell you the number of

times Hannah engages me in conversation of the different points in Terry’s sermon

on a Sunday afternoon. Terry you are one of Hannah’s favorite people, and I am glad

you have had a profound impact on my Hannah. To all the church, you continue to

do God’s work well and I am grateful to be a part our Swansea First Baptist Church.

When I think about our church family, I smile. Not a sheepish grin or fake smile, but

a smile that simply represents all the fruit of the spirit (love, joy, peace, etc.) Thanks

for being there for Hannah over the years and for the years still unspent in the future!

In Christ,

Chad
