Operation GratitudeLynn Lewis

I received a phone call from a service person a couple of years ago and this is the first e-mail from someone that received one of our scarves. We (Springs Knitters) sent over 75 scarves to Operation Gratitude this year again. Pat Werve & Rita Elliott sent them this year for me. This is the email:Good afternoon, I would like to express how much joy these packages bring to us service members. I recently received one and it had a very beautiful knitted scarf in it. Hawk EncounterDrake Van Camp

One of our residents was driving up Lada Street, when all of a sudden, a large hawk carrying an unlucky squirrel became startled by the car as it was heading home low with its “fly-out” meal. The large bird dropped the squirrel in front of the driver, but remained protecting it until flying to a nearby tree branch. The resident drove home but soon returned to check on things, and observed the handsome raptor still perched calmly to allow for a closeup. The squirrel couldn’t be found, so either was stashed for later, or recovered enough to run like the dickens.

RAIN Transitional Living Center

For several years, Springers have generously provided Christmas gifts for the children at the RAIN shelter. Hal and Judy Hyman and Robbie Dornick delivered the gifts this past year and were then offered a narrated tour of the facility. We were also able to view the only unoccupied bedroom which was being prepared for the arrival of a large family, including an infant.

permanent housing; they’re also provided

household items.

During the tour, we realized that RAIN has an on-going need for such items as (new) towel sets, twin bed sets (sheets, cases, blankets) and personal care items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, lotions, etc. A box (or basket) will be set under the table in the clubhouse entry for Springers to donate items which will be delivered regularly to RAIN by Judy Hyman and Robbie Dornick. No used items, please.

CFO Report - Barry GilbertBarry Gilbert reported that the delinquent home on San Como Lane has reached the threshold in both dues and non-payment of 1 year that allows the Board to begin foreclosure proceedings on the property and that the Board voted to move forward with a non-judicial foreclosure during the last executive session. Barry also announced that the Board has approved hiring Malisa Kundin from being an employee of CPM to an employee of The Springs Homeowners Association. The change will result in a $37 per month fee for paycheck processing. Allyn Moskowitz has been chosen again to do the audit and taxes for the association. Barry also was happy to report that there had been no calls to the attorney for the last few weeks, and that a $1700.00 payment that was made, had not been recorded. The payment has now been credited to our account. Regarding Frontier billing, he suggested that homeowners check their bills every month for accuracy, and that if issues continue to see Malisa to have her put you in contact with Frontier through Robert Luce, our account manager. Yolanda Gonzales confirmed that all the credits have been applied to individual homeowner accounts and that there are no more credits due. Barry Gilbert also had the opportunity to speak with Mike Morgan earlier in the day when they happened upon each other. Mike told Barry that he had plans later in the day to visit The Springs following the recent rains. When asked about permits for the red-tagged homes, Mike Morgan suggested that permits would be issued if homeowners signed a release of liability against the city. When asked about the golf course developers, he said that they have not yet presented the City with a plan, and that he will not vote for approval without one. Barry finished by asking that Ted Elliott to inquire about reimbursement of $17,000.00 from the Common Area Association for the $34,000.000 Gitana drain cleanout at the next Common Area meeting.

New Businessa. Pool Open All Year. The pool was heated through December. The heater was turned off on January 1st.b. Delegation of Authority. On a motion made and seconded, the attached delegation of authority was approved in its entirety. The motion passed 5/0.c. Pool Plastering bids. This item was tabled. Two bids have been received for this work, one more is expected. d. Roof Repair bids. This item was tabled. Two bids have been received for this work, one more is expected.e. Treescape Bids. Several tree trimming proposals were received, competitive bids are to be requested. On a motion made and seconded the proposal from Treescapes to remove the tree at the San Dimas Park for $325.00 and to trim the Palm Trees at the Clubhouse for $295.00 was approved. The motion passed 5/0.

The Springs Book ClubJulie Baker

On Wednesday, February 8 at 10am, the book club will be discussing The Grave-digger’s Daughter by Joyce Carol Oates. Martha Garza Laird will lead us in a discus-sion of this fascinating novel. In March, we will not be discussing a book. Instead we will bring books that we feel the group would be interested in to plan a new list of wonderful books to read. Please feel free to join us for either meeting.

Whoopee and BingoDid you know that the Springers get together every third Wednesday of the month at 7pm to play Whoopee at clubhouse? We also play Bingo the fourth Wednesday of every month at 7pm. Light refreshments are served at intermission. Please consider joining the fun, as we need new players. We would love to see new faces at both events.

Pet Rules Reminder Remember, Ventura County Regulation and our own Springs Rules state that a dog’s leash should be no longer than six (6) feet and must be under your control at all times. In addition, your dog should not be allowed to “invade” someone else’s private property. If the dog is not allowed to sniff, it won’t be tempted to do it’s “business.” For those with male dogs, this also means someone else’s shrubs or other plants along the street. A dog owner may argue that they pick up after their dog but, unfortunately, you can’t pick up urine. So please be kind to your neighbors and be a responsible pet owner.

The February nine-hole tournament will be on February 23rd and will be hosted by Ted Elliott. Be sure and submit your entry forms (below) by Friday, February 17th. Hopefully we will be able to continue these monthly tournaments. The situation with the golf course is uncertain but we feel it will take a while before any decision is made. Hope to see more of you in February.

f. Frontier Maintenance Fee Pending $19,000.00. A request for the funds to be paid to the HOA has been requested, from Robert Luce at Frontier.g. Update on the golf course. Ron Kester reported that once per year the City accepts applications for future developments [which require changes to the City’s General Plan], the staff reviews them, and then the City Council votes. If the City Council votes yes, City resources are put to work to evaluate issues and impact on the City. If the City votes no, the petitioner must wait another year to reapply. In that circumstance, it is possible that the new owners of the Golf Course could close and fence it off after the 90-day use permit expires. Only responsiblity is to make sure that it is not a fire or health hazard. Hal Hyman pointed out that Ron Kester is the Springs point person to the City. Homeowner representatives from each Camarillo Springs HOA group are meeting to work out a unified approach to satisfactorily address the proposed golf course development and meet the needs of each HOA. All are encouraged to attend the next City Council Meeting on January 25th at 7:30pm. It was suggested to plan to arrive between 6:30pm and 7:00pm. In addition, another meeting sponsored by New Urban West is scheduled for January 11th from 3:00pm-7:00pm at the Camarillo Springs Golf Course Clubhouse. The intent is to share the results of the individual community meetings regarding the development of the golf course. Stan Roberts encouraged homeowners to attend to show that The Springs residents appreciate their ideas being considered.h. Committee Reports. Ron Kester thanked all the committee chairpersons for extending their service another year. Robbie Dornick reported that three people are attending the CERT training and that another three are going to the City CERT meeting available for those already trained. For the newsletter, she reminded everyone that the due date for submissions for the newsletter is the 15th of each month. She said that she appreciates all of the photos, and to keep them coming.i. Community Questions and Issues (limited to 3 minutes per person). Before opening the floor for homeowner comment, Ron Kester reported that he had been up on the hill with OES [Sheriff’s Department Office of Emergency Services] that morning, and that the hillside looked good, there was no debris in the barriers whatsoever, drains were running clear, and vegetation Is growing. The representative from OES asked Ron to pass on that The Springs is the best group he has ever worked with, (CERT, homeowners, the Board, etc.) and that it has been an absolute pleasure. In addition the following items were discussed: a collection box for household items for the RAIN shelter, speaking at the City Council meeting, supporting The Board, replacing the flag at the Clubhouse, community volunteers and the spa planter wall being in need of repair.

Bridge will re-start on Tuesday, February 7th, 2017, at 1:00 pm in the Clubhouse. All previous members as well as any newcomers who may be interested in playing Bridge are welcome! Singles and couples are welcome! You don’t have to be an expert at Bridge, nor an experienced player. You just need to know the basics of Bridge. We play Party Bridge as we like to be relaxed and have fun.
