election will be held during
our May meeting. The term
for these positions runs from
September 1st - August 31st.
Ladies and Gentlemen, all
year I have been hearing
comments that some of you
are not happy with the way
the guild has been run for the
last couple of years. If you
are one of those people that
has been unhappy, now is
your chance to step up and
help make it better by nomi-
nating yourself or someone
you know for one of the
open positions. Each posi-
tion is a commitment of time
for a term of one year, and
while the vice president is
generally automatically
moved up to president the
following year, you do not
have to accept that promo-
tion. The officer positions
are completely voluntary and
while none of them takes a
lot of time, there is some
time involved throughout the
whole year. I am confident
that any one of you can do
these jobs even if you have a
regular full time job and a
family. It just takes a little
organization to do them.
Don't be someone who sits
there and complains, but
does nothing to help improve
the situation. Please step up,
volunteer to help. We all
want a great guild, but it
takes every one of us to
pitch in and make that hap-
pen.
Thank you,
Marcia Carlson
Fellow spinners,
It's getting into our busy season
as a guild so I have a lot to go
over this month. First item of
discussion is the State Fair. As
many of you know Shirley Mar-
shall, our champion for this
activity, is stepping down and
has asked us to take over. We
need volunteers to form a sign
up committee which will be
responsible for making sure all
of our demonstration time
slots are full, getting and dis-
tributing the admission tickets
to the demonstrators, setting
up the demo table at the begin-
ning of the fair and taking it
down at the end. While Shirley
did much of this coordination
by herself, we are asking for a
team of you to step up and
help. Please let me know if you
are interested.
We have been invited to the
Sheep to Shawl event at the
Wheeler Farm again this year.
The date is May 6th and we
are asked to spin the fleece
coming right off the sheep so
that visitors can truly see the
sheep going right into a shawl.
Wheeler farm will provide us
with a nice large covered space
in which to spin and the fleece
from which to spin. Please let
me know if you are interested
in demonstrating during this
event.
Also on May 6th is the Notl-
wonk Springs Wool Trek. This
fun event provides a pot luck
brunch, the first look and pur-
chase opportunity of the 2017
fleeces, and of course the fa-
mous skirting scramble. See
their Facebook page for more
information: https://

The officers of the guild and I
are putting together the work-
shop for this year and we
would like your help decid-
ing. We have two lovely ladies
that are available to teach us
some new techniques, Carolyn
Greenwood, who would like to
teach us how to spin space
dyed roving for deliberate
color and how to spin luxury
fibers and Joelle McCarthy who
would like to teach us how to
make felt slippers and mittens
and how to spin art yarn. Our
question to you is which of
these two workshop offerings
would interest you most, or
would you like them both?
Carolyn's deliberate color class
is a 6 hour class, but she can
break it up into a shorter class
if necessary. Think about this
and we will take a vote in the
next guild meeting.
Last but not least, it is the time
of year to collect nominations
for the new officers of the
guild. The positions that are
available are: President, Vice
President, and Treasurer. Guild
positions that are going to re-
main filled are: Newsletter
Editor - Jill Tew, Librarian -
Nyssa Farnsworth, Equipment
Manager - Aubry Koecher, and
Spinning Saturday Coordinator
- Kira Masnica. Nominations
will be accepted during the
April guild meeting and the rest
of the month of April and the

Hey Spinners! What has everyone been working on? I haven't been spinning as much as I would like, since I've been trying to work through my "unfinished projects" basket. I have various summer items that I worked on all season last year, and then I started new projects when the weather cooled off. I've also been working outside now that it's warming up, doing yard work, processing fleeces, and just enjoying the sunshine when we get it! I love seeing everyone’s new babies too. Eagle Mountain Icelandics has a number of lambs, and they are sooo adorable! We got a lot of baby bunnies at work (a pet store) and they often distract me from the tasks I'm supposed to be doing, but never for very long. It’s the Jersey Woolly rabbits we have currently that make me squeal with delight. There are two of them, and I ended up getting permission to bring them home overnight so I could brush them and pet them for hours. My coworkers are learning to expect these kinds of things. Happy Spring, and Keep Spinning! Nyssa Farnsworth

detailed notes of monthly meetings, and report them to the Newsletter Editor for the following months issue; col-

At the end of the President’s term, the standing Vice President shall become the next President for a one-year
term.
The Treasurer shall keep financial record of group activities, including the maintenance of the group’s accounts, and
prepare, at least annually, a statement of accounts for publication in the newsletter; be responsible for paying the

the updated list each month unless no new members have been added. In addition, the Treasurer shall pursue a

Friendship Shawl
How are your friendship shawl projects coming along? If you've completed your sections, please bring your shawls to the
meeting to trade to the next person on the list. If you haven't finished your sections, please talk to the person you are
supposed to hand off to during the meeting to get their contact information so you can trade outside of the meeting. If
you are having any troubles with moving things along or knitting the pattern, please ask for help. I know we are getting
close to the end, but I haven’t seen shawls pass for a while. Let’s push hard to get them done so we can enjoy them for
spring.
Here’s the pass along list for your reference: Wendy Reiersen, Shirley Marshall, Cyndi Marshall, Carolyn Chen, Laurel
Wright, Cheryl Stratton, Jill Tew, Kathleen Fisher, Kira Pratt, Jodi Dahl, Jenny Ferguson, Julie Davies, Nyssa Farnsworth,
Kim Sorensen, Marcia Carlson.
