RMC Wish Becomes Reality Through COVID-Relief Funds

Through federal funds designated to prepare, prevent and respond to the coronavirus disease, a project is under-way at Roosevelt Medical Center, Culbertson, to mitigate for infectious disease outbreaks that may come in the future. A total of nearly $3 million was received through gifted CARES

-ities by creating areas in the facility where it is possible to separate clinic, hospital, and long-term care patients to limit exposure to infectious disease.

To achieve this, clinical, lab and physical therapy ser-vices are relocating upstairs to a more centralized area with emergency department access while separating it from the long-term care population. The radiology department will also be moved to allow for a third exam room in the emergency room capable of providing negative pressure to respiratory patients. A new HVAC system is being installed to increase

and other infectious disease patients with less restrictive access to other areas of the facility and less alteration of daily activities unassociated with the care of infectious disease patients. This plan will hopefully allow long-term care patients to be able to move with less limitations throughout the areas

As clinic visits resumed, the pandemic made it necessary to ensure clinic patients did not come in contact with long-term-care resi-dents at RMC and created a hardship for developing ways to maintain clinic access for sick patients, while keeping areas accessible to the residents. The current layout of the facility does not allow for some separation between sick patients crossing areas that long-term care patients occupy. The resident dining room and sunroom are near the main facility entrance where the clinic patients come in and patient rooms are located down the emergency room hallway. This requires shifting residents into other locations to reduce exposure during infectious disease outbreaks.

Hardy Construction. Ellerkamp Construction kicked off the project several months ago by completing the wallpaper removal and painting of the west resident hall and patient rooms. Plumb Montana, Billings, installed medical gasses in each resident room and the west hall foundation was secured after years of settling caused cracking in isolated areas.

Since then, asbestos abatement has been completed in current work areas and Hardy Construction gutted and is reconstructing the two hallways near the emergency room as well as the telemedicine area. The radiology department is moving next to the CT suite and the former X-ray room will become a third ER exam room. The lab is moving into the former telemedicine room and the hallways where resi-dents once lived are becoming clinic exam rooms, a physical

The annual Speech and Demonstration Day event was held April 6, at Pella Lu-theran Church, Sidney, MT. Speech and Demonstration Day is a local 4-H event, where 4-H members get to practice public speaking skills that build self-confi-dence and self-esteem. A demonstration gives the 4-H member the ability to teach others how to do something that they have learned, they present the step by step process to the audience and judges. Members are evaluated on understanding of subject matter, their public speaking skills and how they answer questions from the judges. In the prepared public speaking category youth communicate an idea, thought or point of view with-out using any visual aids. Members are evaluated on knowledge of subject matter, speaking skills and maintain-ing audience interest. This

year 14 4-H youth partici-pated in the communication events.

The Cloverbuds that participated were: Kinlee Peters, Beau Becker and Vaughn Verhasselt.

In the junior demon-stration division, there were five members that partici-pated. Leddy Larson gave a demonstration on Break-away Balance. Finely Ver-hasselt gave a demonstra-tion on How to Make a Book Buddy. Hazen Foss gave a demonstration on the Battle of the Soaps. Landry Larson gave a demonstration titled Inject. Eva Srygley gave on talk on the Penguins of the World. All members in the junior demonstration division received a blue ribbon for their presentations. Hazen Foss also took home the honors of the top junior demonstrator.

The Crown Division is comprised of junior mem-bers who have, in years pre-

vious, already won their re-spective division. This year we only had one memberin the Crown Division; Fe-lixe Becker gave a demon-stration titled Incubating Eggs. He was named the top Crown demonstrator.

One junior member competed in the preparedspeech category. Ezra Hier gave a speech called What You to Do When You Get Your Fish. He was namedtop junior speech.

In the senior divisionsthere were two preparedspeeches and three demon-strations. Amariah Hier gave a speech titled Who Was the Beautiful Jimkey? and Gar-rett Larson gave a speech on the Price of a Horse. For senior demonstrationsJob Hier gave one calledMagical Misdirection, GradyLarson gave one on Market-ing Cattle and Amariah Hier
