Greetings,

This year was a very special year to me; it was my tenth year of being blessed to work /serve at the Kalamazoo

Deacons Conference. When I think about all the people God could have chosen to serve in this capacity it humbles

me that He elected me. Sometimes I’m guilty of taking things that God has given me for granted. Whether it is my

employment, friends, family members, church, pastor, co-workers etc...and this year was a concentrated time of

reflection for me. KDC has been in operation for over 41 years. This reassures me God is in control of this ministry;

He is the one that sustains it. Although He allows us all to bring Him glory, I’m honored to work alongside the body of

Christ to keep the mission of the KDC alive. “To share the love and hope of Jesus Christ by meeting the

physical and spiritual needs of people in crisis”.

Because of your continued support through the years, we remain and have grown stronger as well as wiser. You

may have dropped off clothing, furniture, appliances, donated financially, prayed for us or volunteered your time. No

matter what role God has permitted you to serve KDC, I am truly grateful.

Exciting things happened in 2010. One was that we stepped out of our comfort zone with the opening of the resale

store “Simple Treasures”. I can have a tendency to put God in my little box and only let Him work in the box I

confine Him to. I’m reminded of the old hymn “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine”. Why not change the

words? Let our GREAT light shine because we serve a GREAT God! This year we wait with great expectations to

see where He will lead us. One thing you can be assured of is that everything we do through this ministry, it is our

hearts desire to bring Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior continued glory!

On behalf of the Kalamazoo Deacons Conference Board of Directors, we bid you grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

The year 2010 was a blessed year for KDC all because of your generosity in partnering with us. We were able to end the year with a balanced budget. We have been able to serve many of our brothers and sisters because of your financial expression of love. As you know, KDC serves the city of Kalamazoo, however, we also serve the county and some outside counties. The demand for assistance is always great and growing greater every day. We are blessed to have such a dedicated Executive Director and staff, as well as a host of volunteers. We are not only able to give many needed items that our client’s request, but we are also given the opportunity to share the plan of salvation with many. What a blessed ministry we have! But, it is partners like you that give pow-er to God’s ministry. As we demonstrate the love of God to our brothers and sisters, my spirit turns to Matthew 25:40, “And the King shall answer and say unto them, Veri-ly, I say unto you, in as much as you have done it unto one of the least of these, my brethren, you have done it unto me”.

We at KDC pray for your continued support as we push forward in carrying out God’s plan for His children. We truly thank all of you for your loving generosity. Many items that KDC receives are not practical for our guests. Some are sold through our new resale store, Simple Treasures (3721 S. Westnedge). The rest are sold through sales in the Winchell Neighborhood on the last weekend in April and Second CRC on the second weekend in October.

North Park Reformed Church partners with KDC to hold the Summer Gathering in La Crone Park complete with free food, games and great prizes to encourage

family fun in our north side neighborhood.

Four area churches sponsor this important fundraiser held on the last Saturday of September in the picturesque Celery Flats.

Partnering with the Family Health Center, free back packs, school supplies and immunizations were made available to thousands of Kalamazoo area students.

This 8 week course is aimed at reaching middle school youth. They focus

on healthy life skills as they “earn” parts to build

a lowrider bike. For example, students earn their brakes by learning

about anger management.

This six-week self-development class allows women to learn important job and life skills as well as how to take

care of spiritual and emotional needs.

This project allows 10 urban teens from Kalamazoo who are considered economically underprivileged in their own county to travel

to Africa and see first hand the level of poverty in third world countries. To witness

the lack of medical care, education and resources available is life-changing. The goal is to empower vulnerable teens and give them

a sense of self-worth by showing them they have something unique and valuable to offer

the world regardless of how much money they possess.
